Review: As generals and overseers of the dubstep genre for a number of years, we are always filled with excitement around a new drop from the ever-present Dank 'N' Dirty Dubz imprint, who once again have delivered a killer collection for this year's edition of their 4/20 compilation. Featuring the likes of The Widdler, Roommate, Pushloop, Jafu and many more heavyweight names, this is a compilation that hits the mark across so many levels, with its variation being a primary factor. The initial standouts on first full listen for us, would have to include the scattered drum taps of Khromi's awesome 'Loki' VIP mix, next to the super dubwise atmospherics of Jafu's 'Budder' original. Top work across the board!

Review: Whenever we see the incoming Wheel & Deal flag, we know to prepare ourselves for a riot as they continue on their fantastic release run, this time welcoming CONTRA inside for a special four tracker. We open up with the emotive vocal curls and carefully plucked string lines of 'Lost In The East', a serious system melter, that leads the way for the crunching bass pulses and metallic synth work of 'Levitation' to land with a splash. From here, we enter the collaboration corner, as Morning High firstly assists on the stunning melodic shudders of 'Seraphim', before The Widdler helps round the EP out in top fashion with his additional contributions to the gnarly arrangement of 'Ganja Gremlin'. A very tasty feat indeed.

Review: There is no escaping the majesty of the Dank N Dirty Dubz team in 2023 it would seem, as they continue their rampage in fantastic fashion, delivering a mind-melting compilation drop in celebration of 4/20. Nothing but the most bulbous dubstep heat is included, with the likes of heavyweights such as L-Wiz, Khromi, Nightmare & Oni, SubtleMind and more all delivering face-melting originals. As always, we get to enjoy a wide range of original steppers' heat, from Legend4ry's percussive-driven roller in 'Closer', to the system-smashing subs and dubwise marches of 'Connected Through The Sound' from CONTRA'. Our highlight however, would of course be the marvellous return of The Widdler, who delivers a sublime sweep through swampy sweetness in 'Dem Boy'.

Review: As always, the Dank N Dirty Dubz team have supplied us with a spectacular compilation selection as they release the 2021 edition of their '4/20 Compilation Series'. Featuring 21 original masterpieces, the project is stooped in heavyweight dubstep names, including the like of Roomate, Pushloop, The Widdler, The Greys, Khromi and more. It's a wicked project overall, exploring the full depth of dubstep, from the emotive soundscaping of Demure's 'Alien' original, to the more jovial melodies of 'Oh, I Insist' from Blicka and futuristic dubwise delights of Morning High's 'Contemplate'. It's a powerful selection, not only showcasing how solid the label is looking, but also dubstep music as a whole. Our highlights include the colourful melodic skips of L-Wiz's 'Pcm Dub', the trancelike arpeggios of Repulsion's 'Old Photos' and of course the softened dubwise delights of 'Duality' from Distant Memories.

Review: Pure Brazilian high grade; longstanding Sao Paulo stable DNBB reflect over some of their most touching, soulful rollers and gossamer grooves with this third volume in the Golden Team series. Highlights can be found across the entire 23-track collection but instant bliss and pure uplift can be found on the likes of Mystific's piano-pimped "Into The Sky", Motta's lavish soul and sample craft on "True Romance", the sultry Latin purrs and nylon strings of DJ Roots "Sorriso De Flor" and the emotional key lilts and hurricane atmospheres of Cosmikk's "Lea". Nothing but vibes, sunshine and soul, when they say gold, they mean gold.

Review: Liondub's Street Series is usually home to label's rougher, gullier material. But for their fourteenth volume they've invited London soul merchant Contra for a silkier, timeless session. Each cut rolling with lean elements and premium-positioned elements, they celebrate 1994 just as much as they look forward to 2024. Highlights are the surging vocal sample on "Days Of P", the darker jungle roughage of "Like A Ghost" and the glistening, Bungle-style cosmic rolls of "Kokoro". Straight from the heart.
