Subbase Progression - The Annual - Vol 1
Various
Benny V & K-Warren - "Means Nothing" (feat Thomas Jules - Exile extended mix) - (4:30) 58 BPM
Review: The return of Suburban Base in the last few years has been a welcome breath of fresh air for all generations. Those who can remember the legacy and influence of Danny Donnely's brand the first time round will know the weight it carries. Those who are lucky enough to be too young to remember will appreciate the quality of the goods here; timeless jungle music for the ages. Take any track here - from fresh originals like AKAS's 'The Meaning' to revitalised classics like the VIP of Marvellous Cain's 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' - and the energy and vibe cannot be faulted. Consider the fact some of Singing Fats' last ever recorded vocals and the fact you have music by a king like Marky on here and this really is an exceptional collection. Big up the Subbase crew!

Heavy Dose EP
Heavy Dose - (5:14) 58 BPM
Dawn Patrol - (4:53) 57 BPM
Review: The daddy is back! Having released his debut EP at the age of 50, D&B king Randall returns to our collections once again, this time rolling with original De Underground wingman Cool Hand Flex. Every bit as timeless, dark and uncompromising as you'd expect, 'Heavy Dose' eases us into the vibe on an atmospheric, cosmic tip before 'Dawn Patrol' gets all tense and steppy on our souls. Elsewhere 'Bionic Rain' nods at the hardcore roots with its extended choral pads and stripped back swaggering beats while 'Darkness' lives up to its name in a stern and iced-out savage type of way. Too hot to handle, this is a 'Heavy Dose' you do want to double drop.

Liondub Street Series Vol 40: London Groove
Quartz - (6:17) 58 BPM
Played by: Buck Lee, LIONDUB
Review: Liondub's Street Series is one of the longest running and best introductory series' in the business, pulling through some lesser known talent on an almost monthly basis with condense yet expansive collections of music. This time it's the turn of Cool Hand Flex who lays down the gauntlet from the outset with 'London Groove' - a huge rolling number with towering high points that tumble down into jarringly cool low points. It's a bit of a ballad to be honest. 'Sight & Sound' is the other highlight, a pummelling jungle tip with a wobbling sub and deliciously satisfying percussive snaps.

Intalex Productions present The X - "New Dawn V.I.P." - (6:59) 58 BPM
Review: No introductions necessary: Suburban Base shaped and fuelled rave music as knew it. Uncle Dugs documents, celebrates and champions rave music as know it. On this quarter-century retrospective Dugs brings everyone up to speed as he moves through the 90s and, in turn, the development of hardcore into jungle and drum & bass. 50 seminal tracks deep, from Remarc's soundclash slewing "RIP" to Marvellous Cain's jungle blueprint "Hitman" via Q Bass and E Type's early explorations into synthesis on "Hardcore Will Never Die" and formative junglism from DJ Hype, our affable Uncle continues to join the dots with the past and the future with supreme levels of detail and knowledge.

Review: Hot off Randall's Mac 2 label, Pieces is a ludicrous collection of behemoth tunes found, remixed or simply well-placed in no particular order. Why? Because he's good to us like that. Featuring a stellar line-up of OGs and freshly hooked-up newcomers, this is 18 tracks of pure drum and bass energy ready to make a mess of your cochlea. Special mentions for the DRamatic remix of Lenni Dee Ice's "We Are IE" and Trex's massive stomper "Sudden Impact" which should currently be tearing up the dancefloor in your nearest darkened warehouse with a soundsystem. Instant purchase.
