Review: Coral D debuts for Mysticisms, the first new music to join the Dubplate series. The primary project of Duncan Stump, the deep dub electronic swing of his latest project traces a line of descendance from his roles in Mock & Toof and FX Mchn, as well as his recent 6000 Degrees project. Appearing in 2017 with Love Is What on his own Tears label, the subsequent limited 7" on Samo DJ's influential Born Free label, with Everything Is Going To Be Alright, was followed by the bumpin' Sways EP by one of the labels of last 10 years, Klasse Wrecks. A dub machine masterclass, Coral D has been producer long admired by Mysticisms. The digital only, lockdown releases Dissolve and Lower Feels on Stumps' occasional Tears label are always ones to watch and provided the opportunity to turn friendship in to a collaboration, lifting the tracks to appear together on vinyl. Dub reggae influences permeate. Dissolves' chug-dub beats falls into DR 55's laidback digi-dub groove. Machine funk displaying a confidence in time manipulation, the maturity to allow the listener to drift and fall into the space in the music, offering as much as the Beats and FX themselves. Lower Feels is a techno-dub of polyrhythm and gentle timble-like oscillations, a glide by shooting for your 21st century soul that could swims for days. Dissolve the Mystery.

Review: During the 2000s, Duncan Stamp had plenty of underground success as one half of Mock & Toof, with their brand of dubbed-out disco and wayward nu-disco appearing on labels including DFA Records. For much of the last decade, though, he's been doing his thing as Coral D, mostly releasing music on his own imprint Tears. 'Alright', his first release of 2024, tends towards the Balearic, offering a slow-motion slab of spaced-out digi dub rich in deep, bubbly bass, spaced-out effects and cascading synthesiser lead lines. It comes in two variations: an original mix that boasts (sampled) speech dotted throughout, and a vocal-free instrumental.
