After releasing some typically atmospheric tech-house, Cosmic Cowboys pop up on Kina with a silky-smooth deep house release. The original version of "Velvet", which kicks off the release, sounds like it should be soundtracking some kind of dimly-lit German soft porn flick - though it is, we should add, miles better than the soft focus saxophone drivel usually included on such cheesy late night films. Remix wise, there's plenty to enjoy. David Durango gets lively with the percussion on his sparkling remake, while Boris Hutton infuses the original melodies with some African-influenced instrumentation. There's also a semi-Balearic, stargazing mix from Tonrike, which should satisfy those looking for beach bar tackle.
Venice-based duo Nicola Sansoni and Kaled Jabari aka Cosmic Cowboys receive some impressive remix treatment on Trenton. Pablo Bolivar's version of "Deep Life" is a dense tribal groove and sounds like it was inspired by late 90s London tech-house - until gorgeously seductive keys kick in. German DJ Rene Breitbarth provides a version of "Talking To You", and manages to outdo Bolivar. More driving and percussive, insistent hats power the streamlined, tracky rhythm. When strings hover in overhead, it's clear that this is a prelude for something more dramatic and that becomes a reality when eerie, detuned chords kick in.
