Review: Some seriously sweet ass edits again courtesy of the discerning Discoalition authority, a label based in Bordeaux (France) and managed by head honcho SEEN ON TV. First up A Digital Needle takes the razor to Bruni Pagan's 1979 digger's delight "Fantasy", UK heroes Imagination get an ergonomic edit too, but for DJ use only with Rare Cuts' version of their 1981 classic "So Good". Finally "One And Only" by Coutel has those feel good, summertime, soul disco vibes with a loop taken from a particular classic but we don't kiss and tell on this one: keep diggin'!

from $1.90
Played by: B-Jam, Coutel, 80's Child
Review: Following appearances on Midnight Riot and Masterworks Music compilations, fast-rising electrofunk cut-up maestro Coutel is given an EP of his own on which to showcase his wares. His style - filter-heavy, loopy, smooth and sumptuous - is largely based around chopped-up rearrangements of largely forgotten '80s soul gems, with ultra-slick vocals riding bumpin' grooves, twinkling synthesizer melodies and shimmering chords. It's hugely appealing, and results in some suitably entertaining fare. Highlights include the soulful boogie-house shuffle of "Gotta Have You", the Jam & Lewis style beatbox pop of "See The Light", and "Stop That", a killer loop jam blessed with delicious guitars, simmering strings and addictive vocals.

Backed Roots (The DC dub) - (11:03) 110 BPM
from $1.90
Review: Having spent the last 12 months showcasing his re-edit skills on Masterworks Music and Midnight Riot, Coutel joins the Discotheque Credits clan with "Backed Roots", an expert re-arrangement of Odyssey's cover of Lamont Dozier classic "Going Back To My Roots". It's cleverly done, with Coutel finally dropping the anthem-like vocals following an extended instrumental build-up. Label bosses Discotheque Credits serve up a complimentary 'Dub' that makes greater use of the source material's percussive passages and African-influenced vocal chants. At 11 minutes long, it's something of an epic, but retains interest throughout via great builds, drops and use of heavily percussive drum breaks.
