Review: The latest release on Hot Since 82's label sees upcoming artist Cristoph flex his muscles. With releases already on Defected, Suara and Noir, he doesn't fail to impress with Go. The title track is a bass-heavy, booming techno tune with epic synth builds. "Transmittance" is in a similar vein, with enormous bass pulses taking centre stage as epic crescendo after crescendo ensues. The label has also drafted in some top class remixers; French producer Oxia turns "Transmittance" into a dark, pulsing techno groove, and Riva Starr's version of the title track has the same levels of squelchy bass as Timo Maas' infamous remix of "Doom's Night".
Review: Geordie tech house hero Cristopher Costigan is back on Last Night On Earth, following up 2017's scorching Eleven EP. Taking up where he left off last year, "The Duel" demonstrates Christoph's fine knack for slinky and hypnotic tech-house: that's equal parts groove and suspense to boot. "Revolver" exercises more restraint on this melodic and moody serving of dancefloor drama that's perfect for when they turn the lights down low, while "Tremble" hammers the message home in style on this cyclical and etheric tool that's perfect for DJ's to transition in our out of the peak time shift. Following up some terrific releases of late on Pryda, Suara and Bedrock, Christoph continues on with his winning streak.
Review: Newcastle Upon Tyne's fast rising star Christoph returns with nine tracks of sheer power for Hot Since 82's powerhouse Knee Deep In Sound. Starting out with the slinky and seductive progressive house of "Closer", featuring Jinadu's soaring and elegant vocal work. Lead single "Alone" gets really adrenalised with its powerful arpeggio fuelling this pre-peak time weapon and yet again featuring some great vocals. Other highlights include the moody atmospherics of "Absent Mentor", which is perfect for the late night and label head honcho himself Daley Padley turning in a typically explosive rendition of "Closer" like he only can!
Review: Newcastle's Christoph is on a roll right now with releases on a who's who in tech house such as as Circus, Warung and Knee Deep In Sound who presented his brilliant 8 Track LP in 2016. He now appears for Sasha's esteemed Last Night On Earth imprint for some moody and atmospheric progressive house on the Eleven EP. The title track is deep mood lighting for the early evening with its slinky groove, supported wonky synth leads, epic organs and all round head rush inducing aesthetic. "The Upside Down" is more straight ahead and is perfect to lead in to the peak time with its Reese bassline, shimmering arpeggio and dark strings transporting you into the void: all with perfect dancefloor drama in mind. Afterwards, "The Upside Down (Darker Dub)" does exactly what it says in the tin on this fierce version, which distilled down right to its aesthetic and will allow for some sinister moments similar to grooves n Adam Beyer's Truesoul.
Review: Newcastle Upon Tyne's Christoph is back after some killer releases on the likes of Warung, Truesoul and Knee Deep In sound: who released his brilliant Closer LP last year. Now for Liverpool's finest Circus Recordings is The Skedaddle EP where he delivers some bouncy and slinky tech house that's just as dark and suspense filled as you like on "Cozen" (original mix). The title track is a brooding tribal workout that rolls deep and is perfect moodlighting for Ibiza dancefloors during the morning shift. Finally "Boundless" is the most mellow and evocative affair: this sublime progressive house workout with some seductive vocals atop is pure magic.
Review: Christopher Costigan likes to refer to himself simply as Cristoph when he's making tech-house, and his sleek, effective beats are a perfect match for that moniker. After a series of successful releases through the likes of Defected and Viva Music, he lands on the lesser known but equally appealing and promising Knee Deep In Sound label. "Closer" features Jinadu as the vocal charge, but the tune is all about the progressive nature of its beat roll and wide-eyed sonic landscapes; it's the sort of tune that someone like Digweed or Sasha would promote. There's also a heavier, more introspective dub mix, and a more tech-heavy version by Hot Since 82 - check it!
Review: Cristoph has released on some of house music's most high-profile labels - Truesoul, Circus and Sasha's Last Night On Earth - while Olander's Vivrant imprint is consistently home to chart-topping progressive house tracks. It's no surprise then that their debut release for Bedrock sees them in fine, melodic form. The title track is an epic, pulsating groove that resounds to rich, epic strings tranced out synth builds and a rumbling bass - the perfect combination to ensure big room euphoria. "Dimensions" is somewhat more subdued, but its fusion of a rolling groove with crystalline melodies means that it will have the same effect as "Last Dance".
Review: Since arriving on the house scene about three years ago, Daley Padley aka HS82, has soared to some dizzying heights. Having already released a mix album with Pete Tong this year, he's now back with a solo one, 2015: The Review. Its full of fresh, upbeat house productions, some of our faves include Montel's disorientating "I Cant Remember", Sindey Charles and Sante's acid-pop stomper "Blade" and the retro 80s chaos of vintage jacker "Libertine" by Steve Lawler.
