Crookers & Mr Oizo - "Johnny Depp" - (4:42) 123 BPM Hot
Crookers - "They Comin'" - (3:58) 125 BPM
Crookers & Mr Oizo - "Johnny Depp" (Nikki Nair & DJ ADHD remix) - (4:32) 135 BPM
Review: Mr Oizo hooks up with Crookers for a raw release that transcends genres. Crookers fly solo on "They Comin'", where vocal samples echo against dubbed out drums and razor-sharp percussion. The counterpoint between these elements makes for a wonderfully understated, spaced out techno track. "Johnny Depp", Crookers' collaboration with Mr Oizo, is more earthy. Powered by a rubbery bass and concrete kicks, it is peppered with dramatic French vocal samples and glassy synths. Label regulars
Nikki Nair & DJ ADHD are tapped to rework "Johnny Depp". In their hands, it takes on a radically different shape. Upping the tempo and layering the arrangement with feedback, they turn in a galloping peak-time banger that resounds to dramatic screeches and tortured tones.

Review: Street Bangers is exactly that, bangers which are tailor made for the street, for its clubs and bars, parties and late nights. This is definitely the sort of music you can see yourself whiling away the night to and the pounding percussive lines don't get repetitive. 'Voxpop' is one of the best, simply for the huge build on the second drop - very suspenseful stuff. The rest of the release is just as good we highly recommend it.

Review: Originally a duo, Crookers continues as a solo mainstream dance act with Francesco "Phra" Barbaglia at the helm. He recently dropped a killer white label vinyl, CRKRS 001, which featured lead track "Innocent". Now Defected have jumped on it, re-releasing the tune with a batch of new mixes. The "Milano mix" is a sultry, smooth and soulful electro-house joint that really showcases Baxter's epic vocals. Elsewhere Kai Alce provides both the jazzy Balearic house "DISTINCTIVE Groove Dub" and the more song based "DISTINCTIVE Retouch". Lastly the "More Than A Dub" is an edgy return to the raw fidget vibes of 2008.

Get My Mind Right
Get My Mind Right - (5:55) 120 BPM Hot
Get My Mind Right (Way More Than A dub mix) - (6:07) 124 BPM
Review: Italian electro house legend Crookers returns with the booming, bass heavy house of "Get My Mind Right". Crookers re-entered the dance music spotlight in 2016 with 'A Place In My Heart' featuring Kym Mazelle and this follow-up was co-written by and features vocals by LA-based singer/songwriter, Mike City. The track takes full advantage of Mike's emotive, R&B style voice. The "Way More Than A Dub Mix" goes for more of a late night, early '90s, U.S. deep house vibe with a dusty swing fuelled rhythm and emotive chords plus intermittent use of City's delay drenched vocal snippets in true dub style.

Beautiful / Dub Side 3
Beautiful - (4:30) 121 BPM Hot

Beautiful (Kry Wolf remix) - (5:25) 124 BPM
Beautiful (Lord Leopard remix) - (5:55) 125 BPM
Review: Italian electro-pop freaks Crookers are back! They make deep house these days and don't do too badly at it. "Beautiful" features a bossa-jazz flavour over its woozy esoteric beats. "Dub Side 3" is more direct like the name would suggest on this dark and low slung journey track that will appeal to Crosstown Rebels fans. Elsewhere there's a couple more remixes of "Beautiful" which are equally impressive but for our money it's all about Kry Wolf's druggy, party-starting tech house makeover which will get the adrenalin levels peaking with its tough beat, funky bassline and trippy elements all working in harmony.

Review: Doorly steps up to compile Souther Fried's fourth instalment of the Southern Fried & Tested series. There's over forty-five tracks on here so it should keep you moving and warm for the entire duration of the summer, not to mention Doorly's ingenious mixing and mash-up style. The compilation also spans many different sub-genres of house, from booty, electro, tech and more dancehall-inspired tunes, creating one hell of a party and one beauty of an addition to Southern Fried's catalogue! Check the "Big Booya" acappella!

Review: As Phra continues to fly the Crookers flag solo, Southern Fried have compiled some of the best remixes they ever commissioned. As you'd expect from Southern Fried, it's a great spread that stretches across the board: Riva Starr's stupendously funky disco bassline on "Royal T"; loopy, wonky underground house (Jess Rose's rub of "Put Your Hands On Me"); seismic acid techmongery (Magik Johnson's take on "Remedy") and sexy filtered deep house (AlexKid's remix of "Remedy") No corner of the dancefloor is left uncovered.

The Remixes
The Black Ghosts - "Forgetfulness" (Sona Vabos remix) - (5:21) 120 BPM
Chicken Lips - "Dromp" (Sona Vabos remix) - (5:53) 125 BPM
His Majesty Andre - "Hymn" (Sona Vabos remix) - (6:27) 120 BPM

The 2 Bears - "Work" (Sona Vabos remix) - (5:33) 123 BPM
Mighty Dub Katz - "Magic Carpet Ride" (Sona Vabos Mighty dub) - (4:05) 128 BPM Hot
Crookers - "That Laughing Track" (feat Style Of Eye & Carli - Sona Vabos remix) - (5:53) 122 BPM
Review: This collection highlights the many different approaches that Vabos applies to remixing. On one hand there's the bass-heavy, forceful techno of the remix of The Black Ghost's "Forgetfulness", while at the other end of the spectrum, Sona Vabos adds some spaced out, dubby beats to The Mighty Dub Katz classic "Magic Carpet Ride" and adds house suss to the 2 Bears' tongue in cheek pop ditty "Work". In between these polar opposites, there's the scary vocals, dank acid licks and belching bass of the rework of Chicken Lips' "Dromp" and the pulsing 303s and eerie synths on the reshape of His Majesty Andre's "Hymn".

Turn The Lights (feat STS) - (3:13) 130 BPM
Played by: Tiesto, Zombie Nation
Review: Italian super producers Phra and Bot make a return to Fool's Gold with a mighty trio of tracks and a dedication to everyone's favourite Nintendo baddy. "Trillex" is a very interesting lead cut; taking the high-end riffage they've made a name for themselves with and adding a twinkle-toed hook you'd expect to hear on an Orbital record, it's unlike anything else they've ever done. "Bowser" meanwhile is more your tropical fare. Deep, dark and rolling like a sped-up moombahton record, it's yet another interesting departure. "Turn The Lights" completes the set with some fresh lyrical vibes from STS. Crank the dial up to sleaze o'clock, it's the party piece we've been expecting from them for years.

Review: Never has a track been so accurately titled. Coming on like the demented imaginings of a bunch of laughing gas-guzzling nutters (or, in this case, Crookers and Style Of Eye), "That Laughing Track" features swathces of maniacal laughter layered over the sort of gut-busting, scattergun rave percussion that should send ravers absolutely bonkers. There's a bulging remix package to enjoy, too, featuring bombastic reworks from Milano (thrillingly pulsating), Sona Vabos (bouncy bass-house), Sound of Stereo (eye-watering electro-house messiness) and TWR72 (brain-melting fidget bounce).

Review: Progressing from underground remix heroes to full-on electro superstars in a breathless whirl, the Crookers have learned the lessons from their debut LP. Instead of trying to encompass all manner of styles and tempos, as they did on Tons of Friends, their latest Dr Gonzo project sees them fixed firmly on the floor with 13 huge club/electro/bass bangers to bug out to. Shorn of their original chewy basslines and fidgety drums, Crookers in 2011 are tighter and leaner, as evidenced by spooky opener "Dushi", while the demented leads and sub-punishing simple bass thuds of "Dr Gonzo's Anthem" are also a treat. Their first outing, the stutter-tastic "Bust 'Em Up" (done with Savage Skulls) is thankfully included, while guests including His Majesty Andre, Style of Eye, Surkin, Neotric and Wax Motif make for an impressive supporting cast, especially on the gabba-techno recalling "Texx".

Review: Much-feted Munich party-smashers Schlachthofbronx have the honour of being the first to delve into Man's baile funk-referencing back catalogue for this inaugural "DJ Picks" compilation. Daniel Haaksman's gonzo, ghetto-house banger "Pobum Coco" makes the cut, as does Crookers' "Para De Grainha", which features some hefty tropical wobble as well as Brazilian vocalist MC Leka. Some underrated Man classics also make the cut - look out for Genghis Clan's storming "Gathina" or the proto-moombahton of El Remolon's "Vem Que Tem" in particular.
