Jojo Effect vs Bing Crosby - "I'm An Old Cowhand" (Doc Holliday radio mix) - (3:02) 125 BPM
Review: In the words of near immortal Saturday morning kids TV types Trevor and Simon (remember them?), "swing your pants". Yep, it's time for some breezy electro-swing silliness as Jojo Effect brings the Andrew Sisters kicking and screaming into the 21st century. "Freaky Brown Bug Meets The A Sisters" (try saying that after a gallon of bourbon) sounds like a contemporary take on Mr Scruff's much-played "Get A Move On", just with more bonkers drum solos, dubbed-out vocal snippets and trouser-swinging goodtime groovery. The Funky Club Mix is the one for dancefloor plays, while bonus Bing Crosby mash-up (really) "I'm An Old Cowhand" offers more decidedly zany thrills.
Review: Here Z Records boss Joey Negro presents his own take on the everlasting 90s revival. Just like on all his other projects he's dug deeper to present gems the label say may have until now slipped under the garage doors (i.e. haven't yet been granted digital immortality). Highlights of these 26 rarities include Robert Owens' smooth n' sultry synth jam "Gotta Work", the bitchy disco of "Unique" by Danube Dance & Kim Cooper and the raw attitude of Mike Delgado's "The Murder Track". With this fine release, who needs a time machine?
Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters - "Too-Ra-Loo-Ral (That's An Irish Lullaby)" - (3:03) 72 BPM
Louis Armstrong - "Christmas In New Orleans" - (2:54) 108 BPM
Alvin & The Chipmunks - "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" - (0:54) 81 BPM
Review: Yes, we can hardly believe it ourselves, but it's that time of year again - mulled wine, chestnuts roasting on open fires and all that. Now, we all may roll our eyes when we hear the inescapable refrains of Christmas tunes every year, but here's the thing: we all need them in our lives (imagine Christmas without them, it's simply not cricket!), but how many of us actually own them? Well, with 111 classics (from Bing Crosby to Elvis, Liberace and Alvin & The Chipmunks) packed on this album, it's safe to say you'll never have to worry about your festive soundtrack again (leaving us all more time to concentrate on the mulled wine and pies, hoorah!).
Bebo Best & The Super Lounge Orchestra - "D'Jazzonga" - (4:54) 108 BPM
JoJo Effect - "feat K Boes & P Schug & L Kuklinski Brass Des Belugas" - (4:55) 118 BPM
Club Des Belugas - "Clyde Beluga" - (4:03) 120 BPM
Tape Five - "Dixie Bisquit" - (3:49) 98 BPM
Review: ChinChin, a label that has championed the electro swing sound in recent years, releases this latest collection of jazz/swing/exotica remixes and originals from their stable of producers. The smooth tones of Bing Crosby get reanimated by JoJo Effect on "I'm An Old Cowhand", while that old staple of New Orleans, "Sing, Sing, Sing" gets a cracking revisit by Bebo Best & The Super Lounge Orchestra. Elsewhere, The Andrews Sisters and Dean Martin get given housey makeovers, while others like Tape Five's "A Cool Cat In Town" will keep your jazz hands firmly out and proud.
