Review: Taken from last year's album Follow Your Heart comes this sprightly sing-along disco number. Loaded with an 8-bit impression of a P-funk bassline and some rather fly synth work it's an instant party - as are the remixes on offer from Tommy Trash and Tony Senghore. Tommy goes for an all-out electro shock-out that spits and whistles its spiky charm effortlessly. Tony, meanwhile, goes knees deep with two cuts. Be aware that while his "Trashy 3am" remix starts rather deep and subdued, it does eventually lead to a disgustingly disorienting take that should really raise eyebrows, hairs, hands, wigs and indeed roofs. In fact his "Deep" remix isn't particular deep either; think big. And bleepy. An instrumental and an acapella complete the set. Nice.
Review: Tiombe Lockheart's futuristic funk under his Cubic Zirconia alias sounds better than ever on this new single for Fool's Gold. Mixing together the most unlikely of influences, it melts Latin sway with jazz drumming, epic, proggy synth solos and softly sung vocals. Equal parts Blue Note and Eglo, it's a really intriguing single, available with a hugely useful acapella and instrumental. Electro heads might want to head straight for Dutch master Bart Bmore's rather huge remix, which has already been given spins by Annie Mac amongst others.
Review: Gathering together the best of NYC's alternative producers for this exclusive five track collection, Trouble & Bass pick the right names to show off the city's progressive side. Label boss Drop The Lime updates The Ramones on "Bourbon Blitz", giving it a subtle tip of the hat via some electro snares and Tex-Mex guitars, while Kingdom keeps things typically fascinating on "Uptown Buck" - delivering a brutally stripped-down kicks and vocals feast. Elsewhere Hussle Club take their cues from the CBGB's, while Cubic Zirconia deliver a tripped out acid freakdown with the beautiful "Lucid In The Sky".
