Review: With a release last year for sister label 100% Silk, three-piece production outfit Cuticle find themselves on Not Not Fun for mini-album Mother Rhythm Earth Memory. Despite the move in labels, stylistically this release still focuses on a sub-aquatic brand of house, albeit one that's initially slowed down to a sticky crawl by water pressure, present in the fractured saw waves of "Intro/Opener" and the muted vocodered melodies of "Liquid Crystal Drink (Pour My Dream)". In the second half however, following the beatless pulsations of "Narc Girl", the tracks build in energy towards a housier mood, and the Fingers Inc. inspired basslines present on "Trickle" and "Night Of Romance". There aren't many outfits that can combine Chicago house with DIY synth-pop aesthetics and pull it off, but Cuticle do so with ease.
