Review: While Bass Culture has built quite a roster of artists since launching way back in 2009, many of its strongest releases have been delivered by label founder D'Julz. The long-serving Parisian DJ/producer is at it again here, confidently striding into 2025 with a typically on-point EP. The focal point is arguably 'Nu Bass', a pleasingly sub-heavy slab of club-ready deep house quality that comes backed with an arguably superior (and certainly more stripped-back and effects-laden) 'dub'. There's plenty to excite elsewhere across the EP though, with our picks including the fiendishly bass-heavy peak-time hypnotism of 'Triperie' and the looser, weirder and undeniably trippy 'Money, Honey, Monday'.

Review: Parisian label Popcorn has pulled out all the stops on this latest release, roping in an impressive cast-list of established artists for a compilation style throw down. DJ Gregory steps up first, donning the now familiar Point G alias for an impeccably dusty, delay-laden trip into locked-in, late night deep house territory, before fellow veteran D'Julz subtly references is early 2000s releases on 20:20 Vision via the rolling, bass-heavy tech-house/deep house fusion of "About Time". Amir Alexander's contribution, "The Scent of My Desire", is alternately fuzzy, blissfully melodious and rush inducing, while British techno legend Aubrey serves up a spot of percussion-heavy deep house in the shape of EP highlight "African Song".

Review: Phil Weeks' Parisian powerhouse taps one of his hometown heroes for the label's next release: none other than the man D'julz who throws down the Foxxy EP and you can bet your ass it's hella sexy and well funky! "Ze Fox" (12" mix) is exactly the kind of deep down and dirty loop business that rips some fine disco joints into ergonomic perfection. The French Touch undoubtedly comes through on next offering "Big Kid" this is deeply uplifting house with a tough element to it with its gutsy rhythms and evocative strings. Finally "Next" is classic Julien Veniel; the kind of slinky and liquid grooves he was throwing down on 2020 Vision or Ovum in the early noughties.

Review: Phil Weeks' notorious Robsoul Recordings is back with another long awaited volume of Most Wanted: Volume 4 to be exact. All the usual suspects are back to provide some seriously looped out and funked up beats which are worthy arsenal for any serious house DJs CDJs. Highlights are not just limited to: fellow Parisian legends Chris Carrier with the sexy "Inner Activist", DJ W!ld's signature discofied soul stylings on "All About You" and not forgetting D'julz "Ze Box" which perfectly sounds like the City of Lights after midnight. Honorable mentions also to UK legend Nail who serves up the balearic beats of "Say Whut?" and head honcho himself Phil Weeks teaming up with Windy City legend Mike Dunn on "We Need House".

Review: Paris' infamous Rex Club launches its label with a split EP by two of its oldest members, Phil Weeks and D'Julz, who have been churning out house music on the club's dancefloor for decades. "Ligne B" sees them in a bumping mood, where a fluttering bassline knocks to and fro among dusty percussion swings and choppy, mutated vocals. Trus'me takes care of the remix duties and quickly transforms the tune into a spacier, more cinematic offspring while still retaining that same circling bassline. "Miles Away" is a silent killer, a stealthy DJ tool weapon with a menacing percussion ready and mean for the Rex floor.
