Review: Here's a rather epic proposition: a 33-track collection from Toolroom that not only boasts 32 classic, little known and unheard remixes from the label's vaults, but also a CD-length bonus mix. With tracks seemingly taken from the entirety of the label's existence to date, there are plenty of forgotten gems - think remixes by D Ramirez, Funk D'Void, Full Intention, and Copywright - as well as inspired reworks from such contemporary heroes as Dusky (a suitably reverential rub of Cloud 9's 1993 US garage classic "Do You Want Me Baby"), Tensnake (a typically touchy-feely rework of Jake Island) and Doorly (a bouncy UK bass-house interpretation of Steve 'Silk' Hurley's "Jack Your Body").

Review: Toolroom Live 01 is a behemoth. At 61 tracks large, inclusive of three continues DJ mixes, this new concept by Toolroom, as they say, is to highlight key artists, present new tracks, and give their fans a taste of the live experience. On here there's music from Harvey Mckay, Gary Beck and Maison Sky, to Bat For Lashes, Hot Since 82 and label owner Mark Knight, and if you're looking to grasp the Toolroom Live concept (and other oddities you might not expect), while getting some bang from your buck, this release is a well informed start.

Review: After impressing with a series of singles on Tronic, Brazilian producer DJ Anna returns to Toolroom Records for the first time in two years. "Secret", featuring the seductive vocals of Beverly Ely, has the feel of a classic, floor-friendly house production, with mid-90s stabs and electronics winding their way round an unfussy, floor-friendly groove. We suspect that it's going to become something of an anthem over coming months. There's a solid quartet of remixes to enjoy, too, with Full Intention turning DJ Anna's version into a festival-friendly piano house bomb. MANIK delivers a tougher, techier interpretation full of hoover bass and twisted electronics, while Raxon gives the track a deeper, more hypnotic flavour. Anna's own chunky Club Dub completes the package.
