Review: Most DJs tend to see the DJ Kicks series as an excuse to not only show off their DJ skills, but also the eclectic nature of their music collections. That's the approach Jayda G has taken on her fine instalment, delivering a breathlessly brilliant mix and a selection of unmixed tracks that genuinely has something for every occasion. After beginning with the deep disco of Light of the World, Aged in Harmony and Glass Beams, the Ninja Tune artist offers up a mixture of 21st century Afro-soul (Kokoroko), dubbed-out Brit-funk (Atmosfear), synth-laden '80s soul (Don Blackman), sample-rich 21st century house (Gerry Read), chunky dancefloor deepness (Naomi Darkness, DJ Boring), Motor City-inspired futurism (LNS, Fit Siegel), sub-heavy techno (Haai) and dusty future R&B beats (DJ Koze).
Review: Having impressed via EP on some seriously good underground labels - think Lost Palms, EPH White and Shall Not Fade for starters - DJ Boring has been snapped up by Ninja Tune's big bucks Technicolour offshoot. The London-based producer's first outing for the imprint is headed up by title track "Like Water", a busy and bustling deep house number that cloaks rolling house beats in dreamy, sustained chords, colourful unfurling melodies and sharp, trance-like synth sounds. Elsewhere, "Another Day" is a warmer, chunkier and even more kaleidoscopic take on the same pleasingly off-kilter house sound, "Stockholm Syndrome" is a more classical deep house number that boasts weighty sub-bass and sparkling riffs, and "Seems Like Yesterday" is a melodious and ear-pleasing deep neo-trance affair.

Review: Not content with serving up regular doses of ear-pleasing nu-disco, the Future Disco crew has decided to start sound-tracking days spent lounging on the beach. Somewhat predictably, this second Beach Life selection is packed with seriously steamy, sun-kissed grooves. While this epic digital package does contain two (un-credited) DJ mixes, the real joy is the expansive - not to mention eclectic - selection of DJ-friendly, unmixed tracks. Check, for example, the sun-down, jazz-funk influenced bliss of Folamour's "L'homme Loup", the head-nodding lounge warmth of Snacks' "Daydream", the gentle Balearic nu-disco of Sirs, the lo-fi deep house haziness of DJ Boring and COEO, and the sand-in-the-shoes shuffle of Eli Escobar's delicious remix of Kraak and Smaak's "U R Freak". Throw in a swathe of tasty, laidback but floor-friendly deep house jams and you have a solid collection of serious summer jams.
Review: Fresh from a gym-themed collaboration with former Wolf Music man Frits Wentink, DJ Boring returns to the warming bosom of Bristol-based Shall Not Fade. Surprisingly, it's his first outing for KGW's main label after a number of acclaimed releases on the imprint's Lost Palms offshoot. There's naturally plenty to enjoy throughout, from the glassy-eyed synthesizer positivity and hypnotic drums of sun-kissed opener "Exotic Feelin", to the heavy analogue bass, beefed-up tribal drums and 1990 style bleep melodies of peak-time slammer "Stuck in Russia". Elsewhere, "Found Love" finds our hero flitting between epic synthesizer breakdowns and a pleasingly jazzy synth-house groove, while "For Than" offers just the right balance between colourful, dream house style goodness and bumpin', Chicago style deep house bottom-end.

Review: Boss of Amsterdam's Bobby Donny imprint Frits Wentink teams up with man of the moment: London based Aussie DJ Boring (he of "Winona Ryder" fame) for a bunch of classic house perspectives by two heroes of the nu-skool. The skittering, swing-fuelled rhythms of early '90s garage seem to be a consistent element on Wasted Years Of Pumping Iron. From the dark, hip-house flavoured bounce of "Oli Coony" or "Derek Antony", through to the trippy deepness of "Chad Brothers" with its woozy keys and Todd Edwards style rhythms pumping away beneath all that lo-fi tape saturation.

Review: Up next for Defected's In The House series is the UK's DJ Haus, 'a decidedly untraditional DJ, producer, originator and DIY label innovator.' The Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus Recs boss has received big props from the underground house community and in Defected's opinion: he's an ambassador for the future of house music. Quite a compliment there! Serving up a a wicked collection of raw and jacking sounds that encompass electro, Chicago house, disco, techno and UK garage: and all very much on the lo-fi tip. The supporting cast on DJ Haus In The Haus is quite a remarkable one and musical highlights are not limited to: NYC hero X-Coast (who is fresh off a killer release on Underthesea) with last year's sleeper hit "Mango Bay", Aussie larrikin and Steel City Dance Discs boss Mall Grab with the wicked "Pool Party" through to stateside jams by Justin Cudmore - who gives us a taste of the acid life on "Forget It" and so does the master Matrixxman on the epic "The Spell" (Original Mix).
Review: The E-Beamz label recently debuted with a fine 12" of jungle-influenced haziness from Tim Shug and DJ Playstation. Here, they swiftly move on to EP number two, showcasing tracks from debutants DJ Boring and Magma. The former's A-side cut, "Winona" - so called because it utilizes vocal samples from an interview with actress Winona Ryder - sounds like a long-lost early '90s cut: an ultra-deep treat full of deep space chords, analogue deep house beats and psychedelic TB-303 abuse. Magma's dustier flipside cut, "You", explores similar old skool pastures, making use of both barnstorming techno drums and sweaty jungle breaks. Throw in ridiculously deep chords and riffs, and some eyes-closed vocal samples, and you have another late night winner.
