Review: When it comes to compilations, it's important to keep them as jam packed with entertaining material as possible and it's safe to say that the Four40 camp have knocked this one out of the ballpark. As a project 'This Is UK Culture' is an incredible selection of bass, garage and grime creations, spanning the full breadth of the electronic dance music sphere. Comprising of 16 high profile inclusions, it's difficult to select highlights, but our stand outs would have to include Jamie George's soulful UKG remix of Ahadadream's 'Pray For You', the intense patois flavours of Tomb Crew's 'The Sermon' and of course the dance destroying arrangements of 'Lust' from UK Bass giants Hybrid Theory.

Review: Serious banger operations with Cable and Snowy right here. "Who You Talking To" bumps with KO licks from both parties: Cable's riddim is electrified and hell-raising while Snowy reminds us of his boss levels with a venomous nonstop tongue. Added proof of how hard this hits is found on "Starscream", the full instrumental... See if you can find an MC who can themselves around it as efficiently as venomously as Snowy (spoiler: you won't be able to)

Review: Three time DMC Champion, BBC 1Xtra Resident and multi award-winning DJ Cable returns. The 'super dope mixtape maker' brings it courtesy of his own Triangulum Recordings with the Ancients EP and as the name may suggest: these are some really spiritual and esoteric insights into the UK bass sound. "Aztec Riddim" rolls deep with its low-end theory steeped in Amazonian aesthetics, while "Inca Riddim" follows in suit with its immaculate polyrhythms that will truly lead you into the exotic. "Olmec Riddim" is the same kind of bass driven tribal techno that Arthur Smith aka Grain (aka Artwork) was smashing out in the late nineties and had us really impressed

Ride To This (feat GHSTLY XXVII - acapella) - (3:35) 157 BPM
Minty Fresh - (4:01) 145 BPM

Review: DJ Cable is as gifted behind the mixing desk as he is it at mixing on three turntables, which makes the three-time DMC champion a real asset all-round. Triangulum Recordings is the platform on which he marks the flow this time, starting with the London grime affair "Ride To This", guided by the vocal bars of GHSTLY XXVII; there's an acapella, too, so you can sample the days out of this gear. "Minty Fresh" powers up the juke and delivers a mind-bending, twisted rhythm for late night car drives across the metropolis. The ill s***!

Review: Cable and Ghostly wire up for some toe-to-toe badness. What originally began a few years back as the hard-nosed, two-steppy "Ganon" (also included) is now an all-out rifle jam as Ghostly spits out concentrated messages and confident hype, ensuring everyone knows who's in the building. Complete with an acapella and a swear-free version to play to your mum, there's no messing around in 'ere.

Review: 10 years of US/UK grime feedback: Slit Jockey celebrate a decade of dirt with this extensive collection of classics, currents and previously unheard cuts. There might be 10 years between some of the tracks but you'd never tell; such is the solid signature and high quality control of the label. Every track is a highlight but cuts like Lenkemz savage club shredder "Can't See U", Blak Twang & Conrank's midnight murker "Go Getter" and Mr Mitch's eerie moon-bouncing trapisms are essential staples for any grime and bass connoisseur's collection. Here's to another 10 years.

Review: In case you didn't know who DJ Cable is, the man is none other than a DMC scratch champion (three times!) and an all-round badman when it comes to production. Hi trademark brand of broken, hard-hitting dubstep is a perfect hybrid of the UK's vast dance music heritage. Pounding kicks, dicey snares and of course, a shedload of mutant bass coming at you left, right and centre. If you're into tha heavy s*** then this is for you...

Review: Northern darkstepper Kilner steps up to curate the second Four40 compendium, and he's looted the most exclusive of vaults to create a collection that's wholly unique to him. Tightly sprung in unreleased cuts and dubs, it's sharp-tailored document of where 130 bass music is at in the UK right now. From the lean groaning two-step shuffles of Hybrid Theory's "Tempering" via the warehouse-battering tubular bass and twisted vocal flexes of Adjected Deleted & Scullious's "Enemy" via the murderous grumblings and bounce-bass badness of Fogg & The Bumpy Fool, Kilner's so on point right now he sleeps on a bed of nails. Sharp.

The annual Choice Cuts series is one of the best ways of experiencing their well chiselled sound, and this is one of their best compendiums to date. Whether you start studying for a degree in star-gazing to Ill-Esha's "Galactic Halo", play the air steel drums to Strooly & Swimwear's neon-tribal hypnosis session "Chemtrails" or lose your mind to the unique fusion of hardcore and trap on Wonder's "RaveT", one thing is certain - Slit Jockey will leave you feeling more than satisfied.

DJ Cable - "Cartridge (Devil Mix)" - (4:37) 140 BPM
Review: Triple DMC champion DJ Cable has devoted more time of late to his production work, and it shows. "Cartridge", featuring the venerable mic skills of mega-mouth MC Goldfinger, is arguably his most sure-footed release to date. With its sparse, rolling grime rhythm, 8-bit melodies, pulsating sub-bass and vintage video game samples, it sounds like a contemporary love letter to grime's halcyon days as a genuinely fresh East London sound. The vocal original is joined by an instrumental version and a handy acapella. There's also the small matter of the Devil Mix, which makes more of the bass, "power-up" noises and occasional 808 cowbells.

Pesky Digital: Sound Of Things To Come
Physical - "Pharmacy" - (5:29) 140 BPM Hot
Monkey - "Never Knew" - (4:36) 140 BPM
Magenta - "Scanner" - (5:06) 137 BPM
Fused Forces & DJ Cable - "Jack Russel" - (4:09)
Review: In their own words, Pesky Plates are "a new label pushing heavyweight air-wobbling dancefloor smashers". This description hardly does them justice though on the basis of this latest EP which comes exclusive to Juno and features four up and coming sets of producers.

Physical's Pharmacy is right on the money, a tough Dubstep rhythm that's given lots of space without the bass swamping the track's razor-sharp drums. Some authentic Dub horns and snare fills sit nicely underneath the rhythm, while the occasional vocal samples bring it all right up to date. Monkey's Never Knew is faster and funkier, again with some sped-up vocal shots that sit nicely with the minimal percussion. Like the EP as a whole, there's a lot of musicality on display, but it's always subtly used and surprising, never over-the-top and obvious.

Magenta's Scanner is another winner and features an ancient sounding Organ that slowly falls away into an epic drop. Fused Forces and DJ Cable's Jack Russell is probably the most aggy tune on the EP, bringing the bass in spades with a tough drum track to keep it in check.

With releases as quality and contemporary as these four tunes, prepare to have a lot more Pesky in your crates over the coming year.
