Review: Back with a second edition as quick as their first, Reptile Mob returned in top form for the second edition of their 'REPWIND' series, unloading five more heavyweight garage weapons. We begin with Groovy D, an obvious high flyer within the UKG space, who delivers a dancefloor-ready bop in 'Outta My Mind', focussing on smooth sub work, before Highrise arrives for a follow up addition entitled 'Break Down', giving us some serious nostalgic flavour. From here, Dubplate Pressure arrives for a synth laden slink through choppy drums and moody LFO's on 'The Outlaw, with Duskope & Jay Ward's 'Way You Love' following up with moody synth designs and classic UKG samples all working in tandem. Finally, DJ Crisps gives us a more broken-beat chopper named 'I Believe', focusing on euphoric vocal displays to close the EP out in style.

On My Way
DJ Crisps - "On My Way" - (5:14) 137 BPM
DJ Crisps - "Don't Stop Now" - (4:39) 134 BPM
Oldboy - "Find Da Cure" - (5:43) 134 BPM Hot
Oldboy - "Extender" - (4:51) 135 BPM
Review: DJ Crisps is starting to make some handy garage moves after a couple of various artists' appearances and a fine EP on Time Is Now Germany in July. Now they link up with Oldboy who appeared on Burnski's other label Vivid back in 2022. As you should expect these are four hardcore and rudely garage cuts with plenty of swagger, naughty samples and bass-face potential. 'On My Way' is the standout with its shuffling one-two drum punch, distant police sirens and warped basslines underneath a timeless and irresistible female vocal full of soul. A summer scorcher for sure alongside three more very useful weapons.

Flat Bass - (4:33) 136 BPM
Critical Theory - (5:44) 136 BPM
Review: Whenever we see a new entry from the Time Is Now crew, we know it's time to pull on our dancing shoes and turn up the energy, with this latest three track collection from DJ Crisps being a seriously spicy box of rave-inspired goodness. We open up with 'You Stay On My Mind', a vocal-infused sweep through big room drum work and airy pads in the background, culminating in a 2-step slammer to turn the dance into a zoo. On the flip to this, we then get to explore 'Never Gonna Stop', a chord driven slink through American vocal slices and smooth sublines, with the abstract sine-wave pulses of 'Flat Bass' then taking the EP down a more industrial route. For its crunchy finale, the project then rounds off with the tidy percussive skips and distant reverberations of 'Critical Theory' as the Time Is Now crew continue to cook.

Review: What a fabulous collection we have here as GLBDOM return for another spicy collection, this time delivering the fourth and highly anticipated edition of their 'Spezial Series', bringing us a 14 track journey through future garage and tech, with a dash of breaksy goodness thrown into the pot for good measure. We see a bag of heavyweights involved from the jump, with the likes of Groovy D, Tuff Trax, DJ Crisps, Daffy, Longeez and more all arriving with stunning originals to enjoy. The thing we have enjoyed about these projects from the GLBDOM team mostly is just how varied they can be, from the super skippy percussive clicks of L&F's 'Turming Tides' to the super minimal acidic arrangements of 'Stand Up' from Hartta. For us, the two standouts would have to include the pure nostalgia-inducing garage eruptions of Dubplate Pressure's 'Massive Dem', next to the super bubbly drum punches and emotive melodic inputs of Ease Up George's VIP mix of 'Less Heights'. What a wicked collection this is!

Review: We have no idea what is in the water over at Time Is Now HQ, but they are continuing to impress with this outstanding run of releases we find them on. We see them welcome the enigmatic DJ Crisps this time around for a four track wash, kicking off with the vibrant rolls of 'Keep It Up' throwing us right back to the dancefloors of the 90's with its bulbous bassline energy. Next, the skippy intricacies of 'Alright' are unveiled, focussing on pulsating synth stabs and glitchy bass energy belo, before the cool, sine-wave driven melodies and groovy vocals of 'Today' up the pacing once again. Finally, 'Bounce' delivers a vibrant cocktail of vocal pitch ups and scattered drum pockets to do exactly what it says on the tin, rounding off the EP with a bag of finale energy. Lovely work indeed!

Pinder - "Speedy P" - (5:41) 132 BPM Hot
Papa Nugs - "Super Beagle" - (5:05) 140 BPM
DJ Crisps - "Make U Sweat" - (5:39) 131 BPM
Yosh - "Only You" - (4:44) 135 BPM
Review: The 18th offering from Instinct features four different acts, each with their own take on moving the dancefloor. Pinder P has a funky house/UK garage flavour to it but laced with wonderfully deep bass heavy and shaky enough to dislodge fillings. Papa Nugs' 'Super Beagle' delves even further into the raw aesthetics of early hardcore and especially the reggae-tinted futurism of Shut Up & Dance, Ragga Twins and Hype. DJ Crisps has arguably the least retro sound, relying on very steady and sturdy, more US garage-slanted beat foundations, before the EP is rounded off with the bubbling, skippy 'Only You' from Yosh, re-connected with a subtle reggae flavour to its UKG swagger.

Review: Shall Not Fade rounds off its busiest year to date with a sixth anniversary compilation that's packed to the rafters with previously unreleased tracks from its now sizable family of artists. Also reflective of the sounds showcased by Shall Not Fade's various sub-labels and offshoots, the 24-track set confidently strides between deep two-step (Black Loops), saucer-eyed ambient jungle (Kessler), colourful deep house (Lis Sarocca), lo-fi jack tracks (Cinthie), loopy disco-house (Adelphi Music Factory), jazz-funk flavoured house warmth (Felipe Gordon), analogue-rich broken beat (Yosh), post-UKG heaviness (DJ Crisps), jaunty and jazzy 4/4 garage (DJ Swagger) and the kind of smile-inducing, huggable dancefloor goodness that defies simple categorization (Tilman and Phonk D).

Music Is My Life - (6:47) 133 BPM
Music Is My Life (Mani Festo remix) - (6:25) 140 BPM
Review: As the second of two new releases from the Breaks 'N' Pieces gang this week, DJ Crisps has provided us with yet another fantastic exploration into breaks and garage fusion, kicking off with the old school drum processing and demonic melodic structures of 'Luvin U'. The lo-fi flavours continue with 'It's A Dark Day', sampling a classic 'Fine Day' vocal line to give us a chilling sonic experience. We then move into the title track 'Music Is My Life', which through a combination of warbling LFO tones and bright drum processing gives us something completely different from the previous two originals. This is then followed by the boy-racer style drum switch ups of Mani Festo's remix, closing out the EP with some high-octane arrangements.

Review: As ever with Time Is Now, we are back to explore the darker side of electronic dance music, with DJ Crisps this time supplying us a low-ended marathon of original UKG flavour. We kick off with 'Don't Need No Dirty Money', which works perfectly as a sub-heavy sentinel, patrolling around the sub-speakers with an almost alarm-like tonality within the bass & synth patterns, before the ascending 808 pings of 'Dynamic Reflections' give us something a little more delicate. The party then takes a more tasty route as the crunchy vinyl dust and eyebrow-lifting saxophone lines of 'Release The Pain' deliver a fabulously refreshing display. Finally, 'Sweet Melodies' is given to us as a more tech-influenced outro, fusing moogy bass pulses with constantly shifting drum arrangements for an intriguing finale.

Review: Time Is Now seem to have such a knack for finding releases that just breathe colour and originality, a theme that they adhere to once again as they unveil the second edition of their 'Time Is Now Allstars' series. We begin with the smooth chord sizzles of Bakey's 'Dismantle', with Interplanetary Criminal & Hypho's delicate garage-breaks hybrid 'Talbot Road' in hot pursuit. Next, DJ Crisps switches the rhythms for some post-funky excitement on 'Ready Salted', before Yosh takes it back to some old school garage flavour on 'Over & Out'. Finally, the soulful vocal-chord combos of 'Arms Around' from Ell Murphy & DJ Crisps are chased down by Main Phase with 'Special Occasion', another super precise roller, which sees the release out with a bang.

Review: Time Is Now appear to have pulled an absolute gem out of the ground with his one as they welcome DJ Crisps inside for four grizzly garage originals, kicking off with the flawless sub pushes and catchy yet surprisingly minimal percussive persuasions of the title track 'Diamonds', setting the mood perfectly. Next, we feel the rhythms switch up significantly on 'Knock It Down', a moody yet groovy sub-rustling shuffler, followed closely by the pulsating 808 kick slaps of 'Lyrical'. Finally, we are greeted by a more nostalgia-ridden number in 'No Worries', packed with old school organ chord progressions and sharpened drum sections to really push home that original 2-step feeling. Awesome stuff!
