Review: It's always an exciting moment to see a new compilation from the Black Marble Collective, who return to their super-successful 'Ravetools' compilation for a dazzling second edition, exploring the space between bass music and footwork with twelve explosive originals. From the intense synthetic flicks and twists of 'Pulverturm 160' from DJ Ends to the super choppy, almost post-jungle intricacies of HomeSick's 'Petrol Safety', we see such a wide range of sounds and styles being covered, that it's difficult to ever guess where we as listeners will end up next! This is a real journey of a collection, pulled together with masterful arrangement skills, with our favourites including JTRA's emotional overload in 'The Melancholy Dance', the junglist-based nostalgia of 'THE UNDERGROUND' from PUFF Magic and the emphatic half-time drum bounces of 'Get It Right' from Alexandre. Lovely work.

Review: Within electronic music, Black Marble Collective have a pretty impeccable reputation for releasing incredibly forward thinking music, a mindset that is displayed to its maximum throughout this brand new LP from DJ Ends. From start to finish this one encapsulates a truly delicate approach to electronic music, from the gorgeous chord movements of 'Broken Piano' and stunning synth work of 'Empty Space' to perfected vocal work on 'More Beautiful'. The project displays mastery, patience and to put it simply, pure elegance. We loved every second, with additional highlights being the lofi genius of 'Ikodiko' and truly stunning soundscaping of 'Episode 8'. Incredible stuff.

Review: The team at Black Marble Collective have maintained an incredibly consistent high standard throughout the course of 2019, with this latest compilation providing the cherry for the metaphorical cake they really do deserve. They assemble a goliath 16 track collection including original heat from the likes of DJ Ends, Jah Bliddie, Andrew DIFF, Dev79 and more. For us there are a couple of stand out favourites, including 6Blocc's incredibly emotive rethink 'For Life', originally featuring A.Fruit. We also love the rave-ready basslines of Dom Corleone's 'Yo Body' VIP mix and the junglist slices of 'Underground' from Alexandre.

Review: "808's & Hard Breakz" is the freshest release in the Sequel One catalogue and it is authored by a German producer DJ ENDS. The EP is made up of 6 tracks carried in the juke/footwork style, although the producer allowed himself to step outside the boundaries of the classic Chicago sound. The classic percussion rhythms of Roland's 808 drum machine are intertwined with chopped amen break samples and sounds straight out of Hip-Hop productions. This base layer gets drizzled with vocals stemming from the vibes of R&B, Hip Hop and Brazilian funk. All this makes the EP an interesting case without any boundaries which was made for the dance floor, as well as for those who love to bust out some experimental electronic music in the safety of their home. Without a doubt, DJ ENDS is the kind of person who sets out trends in music, so this EP can be taken as a new direction in boosting the popularity of the "neo-juke" scene out of it's infancy.

Review: DJ Ends' first two EPs have been the key to his arrival on Modern Ruin, a label which, in our minds, is making some of the very best footwork experiments around and who have clearly seen the value in the DJ Ends output. There're 8 tunes on here, making this closer to a mini-LP, all of them geared towards the dancefloor and often mashing up diverse pop styles to fit within the neo-juke aesthetic. There's plenty of r&b at the core of this EP, particularly on "Shame", where vintage soul vocals are infused with glitchy, high-powered beats - an element which is blended into pretty much all of these tunes. Wicked style.

Review: DJ Ends stops by alongside the Good Street imprint for a solid seven track project entitled 'PTS'. Overall this project takes an interesting look at the rapidly developing juke movement, but with a much more melodically pleasing approach than your average producer. Through well crafted synthesisers and crispy drum patterns, DJ Ends lays down an overall super solid body of work. Without a doubt our highlights of the EP are the spaced out 'L2' which takes you on a synthesised musical journey, and the fantastically unpredictable 'Hope Is Where The Arp Is' which focuses on rolling filtration and catchy breakbeat patterns.
