Review: Following a surprise two-year hiatus, Strenth Music Recordings founder Ramon Lisandra Quezada - known to you and me as DJ Qu - returns to action. While his productions are rarely less than solid, there's something particularly impressive by the variety of tracks served up here. Contrast, for example, the fiendishly druggy and wonky early morning techno throb of "In Trance", with the skewed, sample-heavy, tooled-up late night deep house of funk-fuelled opener "No Poetry". Note the differences, too, between the bouncy, percussion-rich drum workout "Brut" and closer "Seepostrum", a brilliant fusion of broken, military-sounding drum work and loopy, head-in-the-clouds motifs. While there may be plenty of subtle eclecticism on show, all four tracks are aimed squarely at peak-time club plays.

Review: Five years on from the release of his debut album, Gymnastics, Ramon Lisandro Quezada finally serves up a follow-up. Conjure is a fine set that neatly showcases the varied sides of the prolific deep house producer's output. So, we get Iberican tribal drums fused with hazy trumpet solos ("Feed Off Of"), dreamy ambience ("Candlelit"), groovy downtempo beats (the hip-hop influenced "Supafly"), sumptuous and sensual dancefloor deepness ("Lotus (In Memory Of)"), and dark, intense, occasionally dubbed-out late night business ("Whistle Song", "Visitation", the stripped-back hip-house of "Toc"). There's little in the way of filler or fluff, and plenty of playable, club-ready material.

Review: Deep house veteran Ramon Lisandro Quezada AKA DJ QU makes his debut for Giles Smith and James Priestley's Secretsundaze imprint with a fine EP of woozy, off-kilter house. "SS1" is rolling, hypnotic and trance-like in its' dedication to groove, with darting electronics and looped riffs riding a wonky, late night rhythm. "Fearless", on the other hand, is loose and trippy, all curious vocal samples and swirling strings. Finally, "Loveboxx" offers a dose of saucer-eyed late night fun via a pulsating bassline, cascading chords, delay-laden percussion and dusty, sun-baked melodies.

Review: Is Jus-Ed the hardest-working man in house? Certainly, he seems to be making a strong case. Following numerous mix CDs, singles and doublepack vinyl EPs in 2011, he begins 2012 with a typically impressive collection of soft-focus deep house with a rugged, floor-friendly edge. As ever, there's a high musical content (see the haunting acid bass and twinkling pianos of "Confused Passion"), alongside rougher cuts that explore the darker recesses of early morning deep house. Take, for example, the dreamy synths and ice-cold acid of "Trip To Hamburg" or liquid atmospherics of "Mr Pete's Cribby". Like the rest of Endurance, they're inspirationally melodic without losing dancefloor focus.

Review: More deep house with a distinctly NewYork flavour from Strength Music boss DJ QU, this time on Sascha Dive's Deep Vibes Imprint. "Law" is a punchy sojourn into the innards of expertly arranged deep house with a Latin tinge - crisp percussion shakes around echoing strings as perfectly timed piano stabs cascade in and out the mix to a backdrops of sinister sounding 'Law' vocal refrains. Veteran duo Brothers Vibe turns in a belly growling dub version which strips away the piano and strings and adds a small army of percussive edits. Sascha Dive puts his epic remix hat on and contributes a 14 minute C20H25N3O remix which slowly morphs from a stripped back slowed down version of QU's original into a deep undulating bumper around the six minute mark with a gloriously warm acid bassline (which the more chemically minded might have guessed from the title of Dive's remix).
