Review: Originally released back in 1997, Slipotika remains DJ Slip's finest hour. Although the underground US producer has recently resurfaced on Brooklyn imprint Thema, this release shows why he became so well regarded. From the slamming, raw looped techno of "Broken Cake" - a visceral reminder of how vital this approach could sound - to the stripped back minimalism of "Railyard Sunset" and the wiry, glitchy electro of "Spice" and "Change Your Head", with their echoing drums, into the deep and eerie techno groove of "Streetwalker", this collection has not lost any of its vitality. It also provides a vital snapshot of the American electronic music underground during the 90s.
