Each track on this release feels like a carefully crafted piece, showcasing the distinctive styles of these seasoned producers while maintaining a cohesive deep house aesthetic. Demuir serves up chunky, funk-infused beats that pack plenty of character, and Dirty Harry steps in with a high-energy vibe that's impossible to ignore. DJ Spinna gets things off with lush instrumentation and irresistibly warm grooves, while Atjazz takes us deeper into atmospheric territory with his signature finesse. Review: Zy The Way hail from Taiwan and are a jazz ensemble that interlace their dynamic sounds with ancient Chinese poetry compiled by Confucius. They also bring in more contemporary compositions which results in an utterly original sound and great gateway to some of the world's oldest literary works. They recently finished a full-length debut album and now comes the single 'Blue Collar' from it. The track tells the ancient tale of young scholars in love with a powerful narrative and moving melodies. The one and only DJ Spinna steps up to offer his own classy deep house remix.

Review: The third volume in a series that sees Oli Lazarus's Papa Records taking a deep dive into their back catalogue and serving up a selection of gems built for sunshine and lazy days. Broken beat and soulful house from the mellower and jazzier side is the order of the day generally, and what's most remarkable is how fresh it all sounds given that many of these tracks are now over 20 years old. Nathan Haines' sublime and steppy 'Sound Travels' is the standout for this reviewer, but with the album packing tracks and remixes from scene stalwarts like DJ Spinna, Reel People, Domu, Modaji and Kaidi Tatham, it'll delight long-term fans of the style - and probably draw in some new ones that were still in nappies when these cuts first came out!

Review: The latest volume in Local Talk's occasional reworks series comes from label regular Crackazat, who duly serves up a fine collection of mostly fresh remixes of back catalogue tracks. There's naturally much to admire throughout, from the rubbery electrofunk bass, drowsy piano riffs and cut-up vocal samples of the producer's revision of Art of Tones classic "The Rainbow Song" and a sparkling, riff-driven peak-time tweak of HNNY's loved-up "Tears", to wonderfully retro-futurist reworks of Deymare's "1990" and "Unconditional" by Terrence Parker, a re-imagining that's the epitome of feelgood deep house. Throw in a string of slightly jazzier revisions and you have a rock solid collection of cuts.

Review: UKG legend and all around underground dance music icon Zed Bias makes his return here via Biasonic for a very enjoyable remix project, which takes a deeper look into 'Fwd & Back'. First of all, we dip into an exciting 2018 rework of the original creation, beefing up the drums, bass notation and atmospheric pressure to compliment the assertive vocal even more than before. We are also gifted an official remix from Shontay, who takes a look at reworking the track into a moogy half time format, perfect for tripping out the dance. Review: Last time we heard from crate digging champion DJ Spinna, he was unfurling a bunch of synth-heavy hip-hop and boogie tracks on Japan's Jazzy Sport. This time round, he's decided to revisit his love of four-to-the-floor house music, delivering a pair of cuts that look to Chicago acid, Italo-disco and cosmic disco for inspiration. It's an unusual step given his usual soulful flavours, but one that he pulls of with panache. Opener "TB Or Not TB" is a throbbing, tech-tinged, acid-flecked stomper full of druggy synthesizer arpeggio lines and psychedelic electronics, while the deeper and more melodious "Cosmocrank" sounds like an inspired collaboration between Prins Thomas and Larry Heard.

Review: Mad Mats and Tooli have decided to celebrate five and a half years of their much-loved Local Talk label by gathering together a swathe of fresh cuts that best represent the label's eclectic approach to house music. It's a fine set, moving from the electric bass driven jazz-house of Art Of Tones' "Violation" to the UK garage influenced deep house skip of Hugo LX, via the rich, soulful house warmth of Sean McCabe, the synth-laden Herbie Hancock-isms of DJ Spinna and the celebratory disco-house heaviness of S3A's "Bob Morton". Chuck in superb contributions from Bodhi Satva, Simbad (as SMBD) and newcomer Marcel Lune, and you have a near essential collection of feel-good house moments.
