Review: BAM! Right in the kisser: DJ Vapour's 36 Hertz hit us hard with the first part of their 100th release celebrations. Three tracks, three absolute riots, Vapour takes the lead with 'How We Used To' by way of some outrageously brutal breaks and tense, pensive pads. He's backed by label longtimers Luke B and SR & Digbee. Luke strips back the drum muscle and brings the synths to the fore along with an epic hurricane Virus style bassline while SR and Digbee close on another apocalyptic amen blow out. Bring on the next samplers - this whole release run is going to be immense!

Review: Kevlar Beas release some of the best compilations around, partly because they have a large contingent of affiliated artists to draw upon but mostly just because the curation team over there is top-notch. The aptly named Strength in Numbers features a load of acs from Quaa Rush to DJ Direkt, the former of which is responsible for 'Vecran', which packs a great, old-school and funky drum line and bouncy, soulful bass nodes which warp and wobble through a really cool arrangement. Danny Anger nails it with the soul-infused jungle vibes of 'Tallies Side Step', and this release in general combines loads of different pallettes to great effect. Fantastic.

Review: KLP Records are turning 25, a crazy achievement that puts them right up there with Metalheadz et al, and so they're celebrating with a big compilation of tunes. Nicky Blackmarket, Klips & Outlaw kick things off on remix duties for DJ Monk's Touch Me, Tease Me. It's a classic combination of artists and the end result is equally timeless, with a sense of vocal softness descending into hard percussive knocks and grating jump-up synth work. It sets the tone for the rest of the album, which features contributions from Dublic, DJ QT, DJ Vapour and a load more. Unbelievable.

Review: DJ Vapour isn't a name we're overly familiar with, but Weapons of Choice have picked him up for this rough and ready collection of urban-edged sounds that'll please those who enjoy low-roofed, sweaty raves. 'Arachnid' has that old-school drum sound that's been lost these days amidst the fever over crisp mixdowns and perfect harmonies, this track choosing instead the road of vibes that are industrial and guttural in equal measure, each inch drips with attitude and this track really doesn't mess around in any sense. The others are equally devastating, even the last tune - 'Take Over' which starts on a lighter note, ends up being a pummelling collection of sounds. Good stuff.

Review: 2018 was a certified vintage for Serial Killaz' self titled label as they dropped a stunning slew of singles, EPs, albums and mixtapes. In case you missed anything, these are just some of the many heavers, heaters and hurters that dropped throughout the year. Highlights include the toad-like bass and Spyda's iconic vocals on "Imitation Soundbwoy", the island charm and snaking rolls of Limited's "Sun", DJ Vapour's absolutely pummelling hardcore slap-about "Damage Your Sound" and Leaf's other-planetary freak-out "Night Time Vultures." Review: In terms of legendary status for labels over on the jungle/jump-up side of the scene, it's pretty hard to beat Serial Killaz. Run by the duo of the same name, the imprint has arrived with the second instalment of their mixtape series and it's unsurprisingly good. Full of big tunes from guys like Serial Killaz themselves, Vital Elements and Upgrade, it's the latter of these guys that takes the cake with 'Steel Drum'. You've probably heard this one doing the rounds and it's actually already been released, but oh boy what a tune this is: a screaming, siren-lake mash of grating metallic synths and punching drums all come together to make an unstoppably good piece of music. Don't sleep on the rest of these tunes though, and a special mention goes to DJ Hybrid's 'Beatbox' - naught jungle vibes.

Review: 36 Hertz Recordings are back on track and back on beat this week, with a fiery compilation that isn't the longest out there but surely one of the hardest. Every single cut on this album is an explosion of vibrant jungle breaks and moody subterranean sonics, courtesy of some big names like DJ Hybrid, NC-17 and recent Metalheadz feature Jem One. The latter's track is especially good, a featherweight intro leading on into an aggressive, rambunctious slice of feverous energy, Jem One's recent foray onto the OG imprint of jungle music apparent in every bar. Perfectly timed to fit in with the new wave of junglist pressure coming out across the UK, 36 Hertz have hit the nail on the head with this one.

Review: OG Vapour steps over from his usual 36 Hertz stable for debut session on Serial Killaz' Killa Dubz label with four demolition documents. "Damage Your Sound" is a bubbly ruffneck workout with a rubber ball bassline doing all the chats while "B Boy Riddim" rides high with some beautiful samplecraft. Dig deeper for jellied subs and infinite break splicing on "Back To School" before "The Devil's Lettuce" closes the show with pure darkcore viciousness. Impeccable foundation sounds.

Review: DJ Vapour has long championed the sounds of classic, hard hitting drum and bass, consistently referencing the glory days, of dark and tough 170 while add present day vibes, makes for a killer mix. 'Nine Four Style' showers you in a cascade of crashing breaks and darker the mood with rough, loud, heavily mutated subs, think Dillinja. 'Do You Want Me' could have been released 15 years ago, washed in white noise and brimming with snare and bells, this is a wonderfull slice of nostalgia.

Review: The don Randall continues to smash things to "Pieces".... 16 tracks of serious rolled-out dark groove soul, it's nothing but heads down grit and uncompromised creativity with every track playing the consummate role of lead player; T>I's soul-shaking hip-twister "All I Do", Benny L's epic groaning yes-fest "Dr No", Vapour's sci-fi drama stepper "Looking Back", Trex's cosmic alien lullaby "Short Story" are just some of the highlights as we roll deep to the very end as Seba blesses the collection with a superlative re-touch on Randall, Goldie and Dego's seminal, scene-shaping bomb from 93 "The R". Randall... Still doin' it after all these years. Essential for all drum & bass heads.

Review: FACT: Randall loves to smash things up so you can pick up the Pieces. All jokes aside, Randall really does smash it both as a DJ, label owner and on the co-controls with another OG Shimon. "Get Twang" is a murk hurricane that rolls and grunts with restrained menace before sheet metal bass whips in from behind with such gusto it removes your shoes for you and throws them itself. Vapour brings up the rear with a classical stepper that's shrouded in swooning pads. Pieces, love and unity all the way.

Review: Raw jungle fire: DJ Vapour continues his classically trained onslaught with two more shattered slammers. As always, there's great contrast throughout: "Let Off" is very cymbal heavy while "I Want You" is much more of a snare-led drum arrangement. There's heaps of contrast within the individual tunes themselves, too; the waspy, electric mids and hair-raising highs on the former, the dungeonist groove and sudden break into synth bliss on the latter. Precision bliss/bad balance.

Review: 36 Hertz are like a dog with a bone this year. And when we say 'dog', we mean 'seriously on point jungle label'. And when we say 'bone' we mean 'loads of unparalleled bangers'. Hot on the heels of NC17's flammable four-piece comes a dangerous doublet from label founder Vapour. The hook and rowdy factor "Vicious" is reminiscent of Roni's "Friends" back in the day; all moshy sweatiness and tangible agro. "Turn Up" takes us much further back to the mid-'90s for some head-bending, cymbal melting drum fun. Think early Total Science or Digital for a flavour guide. Yum. And when we say 'yum', we mean 'banging'.

Review: Barely a month passes without 36 Hertz badman bossman Vapour blowing sonic smoke up our senses. This month is no exception as he packs two knock-out jungle punches with "Rhythm Flow" and "Bunker Buster". The former rides with a classic hip-hop vocal sample, flexing it in a similar way that Aphrodite may have done back in the Urban Takeover days, while splashy cymbals soak the breaks with showers of attitude. The latter swallows a techier pill as we're flattened by a devilish two-step and gutter-chomping distorted bass that's simple but viciously effective. Hold tight for the amens that start to rumble and shake midway. Powerful.

Review: Massive. One word is all you need to describe first track on this tantalising little sampler from Randall, DJ Vapour and Dawn Raid. But for some more; "Angels Warning" is big and ballsy, full of bass and the most amount of fun you can have with your headphones on. "Red Sonja" takes things back to the old school with tripped out junglist breaks, euphoric atmos and diva vocals stretching on out into the small hours. Review: Since resurrecting System Shock, Callide has been on a one-man mission to raise the profile of his own favoured brand of soul-shaking deadliness. On this little beauty of a remix EP though, he's no longer a man on a lone mission, as plenty of the scene's hardest hitters have been placed on point to lend a hand. Review: Self-professed bassline terrorist DJ Vapour hasn't ever been one for the quiet life and when it comes to drum and bass, he's very much on the side of "the more the better". This might explain why "Iceberg Slim" is a hyperactive basher at breakneck jump-up speed, filled with jazzy riffs and dizzying atmospherics. On "Selassie Riddim" deep, dubby bass fuzzes into trebly amen breaks, adding to a feel of vintage vibes crash-landing in the future. A great pair of dancefloor fillers, well worth your time.

Review: The latest release on DJ Vapour's 36 Hertz Recordings revisits the rave era with such clout and command, it genuinely feels like 1992. "Feel The Vibe" is a ruthless breakbeat cut sprung with the finest Prodigy-style detuned synths, "On The Run" comes complete with heavenly pianos, "Here We Go" attacks with rattling breakbeats and a tightly looped vocal while "Woah Iz Me" closes the show with a rich insanity riff and neat flips between between bold splashy amens and a more stripped back body-moving riddim.
