Review: Those who remember Dabs' Wormatic LP know that it was an absurdly good release, one which distilled the Dispatch ethos and expanded the boundaries of what it could mean. Now, the remix EP is upon us and Dispatch have roped in a series of the scene's best to put their spin on Dabs' work, a tall order considering the sheer brilliance of the original. The first is from HLZ, whose knack for relentless rolling beats is on full display on 'Sleepless City', whcih just goes and goes and goes without any respite - a proper Dispatch number. The Nymfo remix of 'Eardrum' is just as potent, with an unreal use of space that injects funk and anger in equal measure, all of which rests on an infectiously skippy percussive line. There's glitchy neuro-infused experimentalism from Hybris, dark techstep from Kyrist and more - oh yes!

Review: Rolling Rotterdam rotters Blendits have been dishing out some serious underground flavours for exactly two years this month. A suitable time, then, to look back and reflect on the damage they've caused. 15 tracks in total, we flicker and flux between lean minimal mechanical badism (Young-G's "Shantytown") to big slappy-drum jazz business (Impish's "Friday") and Bop-style glitch jitters (Hydro, M-Zine & Scepticz' "Keep Your Distance"), all the while keeping our eyes (and ears) on the future. Review: A brand new D&B imprint out of Rotterdam's longstanding bass parties, Blendit launch with an impeccable list of talent. Leading with Horizons-approved Dabs, "Lurkbox" is an unnerving roller peppered with harsh steps and classic stabs. With mild airs of neuro weaved deep into the textured groove, it's joyously mean. Hydro, M-Zine and Scepticz follow with "Keep Your Distance". A deeper groove with grittier nuances and a rich, palpitating bassline, it's the perfect foil to Dabs' darkness. Blendit have broadcast their sentiments with crisp clarity, we look forward to hearing more.

Review: Horizons take to the deep, atmospheric end of D&B for Dabs' latest release, an emotive collaboration with MC Kwality and European king of the filthy bassline Mortem. Starting off with intriguing middle eastern sounds, booming tribal beats and scene-setting flows from Kwality, it's a dark, dangerous stepper fit for the night. Following up is a track filled with soul and sophistication, as silky vocals create the perfect juxtaposition with techy beats and rolling bass. Two very different tracks but each perfectly showcasing each producer's talents. Dabs and Mortem should already be a buy-on-sight, if not, get to know.

Review: Dutch online record store Triple Vision have put their encyclopedic knowledge of drum and bass and dubstep down in compilation format, and man does it sound fresh! Showcasing some of the hottest talents from the scene, this little library of perfect tunes from 2012 sounds as hot as they did back on their release dates. Featuring the likes of Technicolour & Komatic (now called Technimatic, of course), European atmos-bassers Gerwin & Nuage, Intelligent Manners, Disphonia, Mortem and Sabre, as well as some wildcards and underdogs from artists with their own rabidly fanatical follwings, this is a comp worth savouring and perfect for filling those gaps in your collection with tunes that perhaps passed you by along the way.

Review: Horizons continue their run of quality releases with a couple of cuts from Dabs, who teams up with Amoss for title track "Still There" and June Miller for "Ditch". Returning to the former, this one's all about the deep, penetrating bassline with a gnarly edge, razor sharp breaks and pounding tech-ed up power. Vocodered lyrics add to the ominous atmosphere. Then "Ditch" comes in with its neuro overtones, cinematic SFX and gritty b-line pressure. Watch out for the drop - nasty! A superb release for those who like their D&B big, bad and heavy.

Review: Quadrant and Dabs switch it up on this split release on Citrus; first it's Dabs remixing Quadrant's "Only Mortal" and then it's vice versa. The former is all terse, punchy drums, dreamy ethereal pads and understated trance-like synths, falling into the main tune with a shudder of SFX and pound of drums. The latter is Quadrant's remix of Dabs' "Crawler" - crisp, stuttering beats are punctuated by hissing hi-hats and warping bass reminiscent of a Jubei release kicks in and dominates for the rest of the tune.
