Hailing from Vancouver on Canada's west coast, Daega are two brothers making international waves. Their latest missive, Under Pressure, should only further their reputation in the world of bass, with three tracks of doom laden dubstep with icy techno ("Under Pressure"), ghetto ("Spirit") and spacey soul ("Abyss") overtones.
The latest in Car Crash Set's "No Northwest" series sees Vancouver's Daega Sound share the spotlight with Seattle's Kid Smpl for some deep and moody tech winners, including DS' tech-step menacer "Legion" and his equally crystalline and reverb-soaked half-stepper "Winter's Horse". Kid Smpl gets deeper and trippier on "Timber" and almost nails Sigur Ros' aquatic swoon on the excellent "Over".
Supreme London noggin-nodders, Deep Heads, are well established now having put out killer low-end excursions for quite a few years. This new sampler gives us a teasing glimpse of the contents of the forthcoming second installment of their Deep Heads Dubstep series. Unsurprisingly the series sees the label explore their definition of dubstep and some of our faves include the scattershot beats and jazzy bleeps of "Oblong" by Geode and the urgent percussive weird-out "In The Box" by Daega Sound. If this is their definition of dubstep, we approve!
