Review: 18 months have passed since Bristol beatcamp Durkle Disco last compiled a "Definitions" EP. Once again the quality and levels of talent are high as Boycott busses up the best dynamics of trap, grime and dubstep for a lean, mean slaying machine they call "HK '87", Daffy & Gundam's "Bio Schematics" continues the stripped back prangish tones Durkle have made their signature with the equally alarming "Bio Schematics". Review: The Time Is Now train continues to roll from station to station, with their latest drop coming from legendary Bristol native: Daffy, a long-standing heavyweight in the UKG space, who blesses us with four scintillating original groovers. We open up with the smooth melodic drifts and sharpened drum crunches of 'Organs For Spring', a real party starter, before 'Save My Soul' amps up the subs for a gnarly 4x4 stomp. Next up, we hear elements of breaks, old school garage and soulful house all fuse as 'Holding On 4 U' gives us another hard hitting bop, before the more syncopated sounds of the title track 'Like This Like That' give us a wavy closer. Top work indeed!

Review: Bang on trend grooves from the Vivid camp, exploring the current fascination for all things that intersect both the garage and breaks genres. Lead track 'Wicked & Wild' is the one that leans furthest into UKG territory, its bumpy bassline and MC-style vocal giving it heaps of energy and attitude. Instrumentals 'Push Past It' and 'Ronin' meanwhile evoke the early 2000s spirit of breaksteppers such as Horsepower Productions, the latter especially maintaining the bassline pressure and adding it to the more hardcore vibe of rawer, sampled percussion. Maximum respect!

Review: Since the start of lockdown back in 2020, it's safe to say that Daffy has been on an incredible run, taking his unique take of garage influences around the country with a high quality string of releases. He returns to Time Is Now for the latest in their 'White' series, opening up with the patois vocal displays and nostalgic bassline manoeuvres of 'Higher' arriving in style. Next, some swampy bass action is unveiled across the low-ended warbles of 'Darker Days', with the euphoric vocal loops and rave-like delays of 'Take It Easy' then upping the ante once more. Finally, pure 4x4 flavour as 'Warped' is unleashed to deliver one final dancefloor delight before rounding the EP off. Another fantastic outing for both Daffy and the Time Is Now team.

Review: Vivid's unashamedly retro-tinted breakbeat assault continues apace with five more high grade tracks. It is the newly emergent, in-form Daffy who follows up a nice EP on Time Is Now earlier in the year with throwback mash up. There are rigid metal chords panning about the mix next to bleeping fax machines and bustling breaks on the opener and from there he doesn't let up. 'Dents' is a bass heavy garage workout with razor sharp hits and 'No Caller ID' drops deeper into warped garage basslines. 'Palm Tree' is pure jungle goodness, and last of all 'Don't Think' is maybe the best of the lot.

Review: Following on from a relatively minimal release run for the last few years, it's been great to see Daffy spring back into action over the last couple 12 months, dropping top quality EP after top quality EP. This latest helping sees him land on Time Is Now, who have also been on a bit of a hot-streak. It's a match made in heaven as we kick off with the minimal garage grooves and tidy vocal slices of 'Put Your Feet Up' before the title track 'Run Around' focuses in on a much more tech-inspired selection of sounds. We take it old school next as 'Nerves' combines grizzly bass tones with breaksy drum arrangements, wrapped within a lo-fi blanket, followed by a crispy combo of modern breaks and subtle 8 08 subs in 'Lost Again'. We move into a broken-beat realm of garage next as 'Mishap' combines 2-step beats with bulbous bass curls for a real system-ready warbler, leaving the path clear for another breaksy creation to sign the project out in style. This one goes by the name 'Wasps Next' and works perfectly as both a summary of the EP's journey and hard-hitting finale.

Review: What an exciting link up we have here as the veteran sounds of Daffy and the explosive styles of PJ Bridger join forces for yet another fabulous addition to the Time Is Now catalogue. Opening up the selection, 'We Come Dere' works wonders as a haunted, distant 2-step homage to original broken-beat flavours, followed closely by more moody energy as 'Way Back When' focusses more-so on bulbous LFO crunches and intense shaker-lead drum stutters. The pair then dive into a move breaks-driven design as 'Dutty' provides us with another dubwise-infused room shaker, before jumping into the remixes. First up, Bakey steps up for an intricate, 808-centred rethink of 'Way Back When', deploying colourful organ chords and more of original dubwise FX, before Ollie Rant gives 'Way Back When' a much more dancefloor orientated overhaul, focussing on skippy chord progressions and soulful vocal samples, giving us a couple of very exciting alternate versions to close things off.

Review: What a tidy link up we have here as Groovy D & Daffy join forces for a selection of vibrant garage-inspired originals, exploring the dance with a very cool collection. We open up with 'Zero G', a rave-ready thumper, fusing original hardcore energy with tidy patois vocal samples and sizzling garage drumlines to really kick start the party, before Daffy rides out on solo duty with the speed garage inspired bassline action of 'Supercross', again upping the pace of the overall EP. From here, we then see Groovy D launch his remix, which takes the track down a bit of a different alley, speeding up the tempo and letting the LFO bloops run wild, rounding off the EP with a very cool dash of energy!

Just look at the artists who've contributed to the label over the years. Review: What a fabulous collection we have here as GLBDOM return for another spicy collection, this time delivering the fourth and highly anticipated edition of their 'Spezial Series', bringing us a 14 track journey through future garage and tech, with a dash of breaksy goodness thrown into the pot for good measure. We see a bag of heavyweights involved from the jump, with the likes of Groovy D, Tuff Trax, DJ Crisps, Daffy, Longeez and more all arriving with stunning originals to enjoy. The thing we have enjoyed about these projects from the GLBDOM team mostly is just how varied they can be, from the super skippy percussive clicks of L&F's 'Turming Tides' to the super minimal acidic arrangements of 'Stand Up' from Hartta. For us, the two standouts would have to include the pure nostalgia-inducing garage eruptions of Dubplate Pressure's 'Massive Dem', next to the super bubbly drum punches and emotive melodic inputs of Ease Up George's VIP mix of 'Less Heights'. What a wicked collection this is!

Review: What a fabulous box of treats we have on display here as we see numerous different garage heavyweights make their way back to Time Is Now for the fourth edition of their 'Time Is Now Allstars' collection. First up, Soul Mass Transit System touch down with their first of two appearances, welcoming Sage Introspekt along for the ride with a thumping roller named 'Sexy Thing', before Yemi delivers an unexpected jungle-driven twissup on 'Run Sound'. Next up, Soul Mass return, this time alongside the legendary Killa P for funk infused masterclass on 'Blocked', something very different indeed. From here, Daffy delivers a serious system weapon on the breaksy throws of 'Check 1', next to Groovy D's more old school influenced 'Don'tCareBoutMe'. Finally, Stones Taro unleashes a fabulous display of moogy magnificence on 'Rise Up', giving us one final touch of brilliance before closing off.

Review: Deep In The Jungle Records is a UK jungle imprint that have been making bigger and bigger waves over the past several years, a big part of which is their affinity for fat compilations that straddle numerous sub-genre boundaries and which represent lots of different artists. This next one is about classics and it features artists like Conrad Subs, Kumarachi, DJ Hybrid, Kartoon and more. Conrad Subs is a favourite of ours and his cut, Takeover, is a wicked, deep rolling piece of work that packs a sick bassline, one which makes you think of late-night raving at its finest. This is a top compilation from a star label of the new wave.
