Review: Sub-liminal brings an end to the year that was, going out all guns blazing with on Air Part 2 featuring a bunch of wicked VIPs. Label staple Agro serves up several collaborations on here with the likes of Mentah, Raz, Diligent Fingers and Ghxsty. There's also a few offerings by the ever reliable Yatuza; our pick being the wonky stepper of "Distance" with Master Error. Elsewhere, Pyro pops up a few times throughout and was in fine form on "Smithdown Bass" and Prestige handed in a couple of quality dubs with neurofunk cut "Logical" being our pick of the bunch.

Review: Don't believe the fairy tale; Goldilocks didn't have a kip on baby bear's bed because she was full of porridge or tired after her walk through the woods. No. She had a nap there because she's had three beers...And this is the soundtrack to the dreams she had. Bendy bass moans, glacial pads and a general sense of unease (probably because she's half-cut and sleeping on some random kids bed in a house she's trespassing in) combine to create the dark funk we've come to expect from Damage Report. For the soundtrack to Goldilocks running away check 'Bounce Itch' as it catches the same energy as someone running for their life through the woods. Drinking's bad for you.

Review: Gr8 scott! High R8 are celebrating 10 years of being at the forefront of dnb, grafting at the future talent coalface and we're in for a treat of a trip down memory lane. Featuring early cuts from modern day donnies like Guv, Spaow and K Motionz, the collection takes us back to 2011 then pings us around the last decade by way of crucial cuts from the likes of Damage Report, Dub Bezerker, Nu Elementz, Sub Killaz and beyond. Highlights include the still-raw 'Blood' from Guv, the stripped-back vibe and grungey bass slaps of Diskize's 'Rain' and the haunted cries and sense of tension in Filthy Habits' 'Hidden Secrets' but to be honest the whole collection slaps and really highlights how consistent and ruthlessly gully High R8 have been since they began.

Featuring a full cast of familiar Gridsters, the vibes range from the farty party of Jando's opening 'Jaguar Trap' to the Dutch oven noxiousness of Parallel's screaming finale 'Warped Entity'. Between these two points we have the trumpy pumpy ruffage of Damage Report's 'Punch Bag', the trippy steamy vapours of Oli Lewis's 'Just You' and the air biscuit crunch of Jaxx's swashbuckling 'Horses For Courses'. Review: So it doesn't feel like we've had much of a summer this year. It also feels like the arts are being hung-up to dry right now. But at least the good folk at Sub-liminal care for us.... To mark the (albeit raveless) sunny season, they've put together a 50 (yes, fifty) track collection from some of the most exciting names in the game. From Dunk to Xav, RV to Warhead, Agro, Guzi, Shayper, Damage Report and so many more, this is the 'Summer Selection' we all totally need and deserve right now. Highlights include the Remarc levels of badness on Guzi's 'Area 51', the tension and staggered creepiness of Yatuza's 'Clich?' and the broadsword swathes of Motiv's buzzy bumper 'Necroplasm'. Review: Everyone likes a good compilation, right? What's better than having as big a range of artists as possible in one condensed place? It's essentially an album with the ease of listening of a single, so we're all for it. Subliminal have come out with the 2020 edition in their Riddim Return series and it's packed full of bangers, across a range of styles, and it's one of those albums which doesn't try to be cool or sophisticated by chucking in a few fillers for the sake of diversity - it's just hard stuff here. It works great, with Sam Harris' tendency for muscular minimosity coming on loud and clear on Boom Ting, a wickedly devilish and driving roller.

Review: Grubs up! Twisted Individual's cooked up a feast of undead delights for the first Zombie Recordings V/A collection and everyone's invited. Chewy, spicy and full of gully victuals, across the collection we're treated to all range of flavours; the peppery aftertaste of Filthy Habits & Jeopardize's "Mind Transfer", the fruity funk bursts of Imaginary Friends' "Rooftop Jam", the gamey aroma and meaty chugs of Yatuza & Nick The Lot's "Mystic Ways" and the sweet and sour textures of Alex SLK's "Kluture" are just some of the many highlights on the menu. Review: Iron Fist is an appropriate name for the label behind this collection of VIPs and, listening through them, you can hear why. This release is a solid envelope of four tunes which demonstrate a serious understanding of jump-up's nastier end, the type of jump-up which some hate but which inspires a passionate love for the genre in others. Jaydan's VIP of Say Nothing is the best example of this, its pointed, jagged-edged basslines are cutting and penetrating at the same time, snappy drums lie underneath and the whole tune is packaged with effortless finesse. Check out the others for some of the hardest-hitting D&B around.

Review: Forget your daft screechy dubstep variant of the same name, Sub-liminal deal strictly in proper riddims. Wobbly riddims, fat riddims, stinking riddims, gully riddims. They have done for almost five years now, and this new Riddim Return collection is a reminder of just how much ground they cover, how many super talented darksmiths they work with and how much skin of yours their releases will melt. Highlights on this 50 track strong collection (yes, 50!) come from every angle but you'd be mad not to lick a shot from Agro & Raz on their melted bass weird-out "Ah Like It", do air trumpet to Warhead's "Cop Killa" or get wonked the heck out by Leaf's concrete steps on "Hold Up". Dig hard and take a deep breath... You're in riddim country.

Review: Grid Recordings are sick little label that we regularly cover here because their releases are so consistently good, so consistently naughty and just so consistently consistent. Damage Report is a regular appearance on their release catalogue and he's back with the Neck Noose EP, a five-tracker of bubbling, jump-up influenced wizardry. There are plenty of rolling bangers here, but 'Piranha' is the tune that really caught our attention. With a creative, almost-halftime drum pattern and snarling bass flicks, it combines novelty with time-proven strategies of dancefloor damage.

Review: Grid Recordings are a regular here on Juno and for good reason, their proclivity for steadily releasing rough but energetic, whole-hearted cuts is strong and their small size doesn't prevent the release of top-quality music. The title track is the strongest on the release, with a Dispatch-esque feel to its cracking percussion and a torn, broken back end that rips across the range with style. The other 3 cuts go down a more jump-up route and, if you like Grid, this is the release for you.

Review: This is a big release, both literally and metaphorically. Sitting at 58 tracks, it's clear that the Dub Damage crew wanted to pack as many of their best moments as they possible could into the album. If you're a jump-up fan, think of this as a bit like the holy grail of jump-up and the inclusion of remixes and originals from dons like Original Sin, Annix, Turno and Sub Zero cement that fact. Aside from those legends, DJ Alpha comes through with 'The Man With The Golden Gun', a riotous blend of punched out bass synths, whilst Kre & Basshoven low-key steal the show with 'Toronto Blue'. A fat album this, and a lesson in how to do compilations right.

Review: Gavin Damage aka Damage Report returns with his third release for Grid Recordings this year. On the title track, the influence of jump-up and hard core loom large; rave horn blasts, electronic squiggles and pile-driving drum builds all come together to support a matter of fact sample that simply states 'your father is far from being a well man'. "Bag of Chat" sees the prolific UK producer opt for a different route. On this occasion, the sound of dub lingers over the arrangement as a splurging bass underpins fast-paced chat. It's proof again that Damage Report is one of the UK's most versatile and talented drum'n'bass producers.

Review: After the undeniable popularity of the first edition of Murky Digital's 'Turbid Transcendence' compilation, we were stoked to see that a second part was hitting the stores, and what a selection it is. We hear a range of rollers and minimal drums from start to finish, including Bass Antics and Nino's sub heavy 'DAT TUNE' and the high calibre creeping collaboration 'What Do You Know' between Filthy Antics and Jeopardize. For us the additional highlights have to be the explosive percussive rolls and grinding subs of Euphonique's 'Damage', along with the crispy drum processing of Tarz's 'Late Night' and Fena's volcanic 'The Lizard King' arrangement, complete with lethal bass growls and flavourful drum combos.

Ranging from the white knuckle neuro pace of Fena's "Viral" to Dominator's gamechanging grumpy-bass twist on Agro's "Noise Complaint" via Dialogue's ultra-grot wobbler "If You Can't Beat 'Em", Tyrant's Nightflight-style jungle slap-about "Bomb", Agro's sinful stepper "Tank" and many more, this is a perfect snapshot of the label's breadth, weight and uncompromised sound so far. Review: Shots fired! Murking marksman Damage Report gets mucky with his latest lenger. Croaking and smoking with a precision chiselled riff that adds more and more lasers on every 16, it's a spunky number that drops into a remarkably euphoric breakdown before going in for happy slappy seconds.
