Review: Global Underground's' Select' series acts as a kind of annual nod to all the electronic music that floats their boat, with each digital download edition offering two (uncredited) CD-length mixes and full then versions of each included cut. 2024's edition - volume nine in total - is naturally packed to the rafters with tasty tracks from both established producers and rising stars. That means an attractive, immersive and frequently emotive mix of ambient-tinged deep electro (Pablo Bolivar & Nacho Sanchez), evocative tech-house (Dixon re-working Nandu's 'Around', Guy J's hypnotic, acid-flecked 'State of Trance'),pitched-down neo-trance dreaminess (Joris Voorn editing Solee), grandiose big room workouts (Fur Coat & Lexur), 21st century acid house (Phunkadelica remixing Damon Jee), and uplifting progressive house (D-Nox).

Review: A joint outing here from French producers Jerome Da Silva and Sylvain Soulier, better known to most as Damon Jee and Darlyn Vlys. 'Generation' itself has a plainitive, very 80s pop-sounding male vocal that may or may not be some kind of Generation Z rallying cry vis ? vis global warming, social justice and so on ("A generation hasn't grown in vain/sooner or later we'll have to do something") and comes served in full-length and Radio Edit flavas. Elsewhere, 'Black Sand' is a moody dark room throbber that blends techno, prog and Italo influences, while 'Afterglow' is a pacey, all-electronic disco-tech delight.

Review: Roam Recordings was set up by Jason 'JP Soul' Peters and Jeni 'Jeniluv' Erickson in 2001, and has since put out records by the likes of Demarkus Lewis, Rhythm Plate, Hesohi and Dino Lenny. For their 100th release/20th anniversary, though, they've avoided the obvious 'best of' route and instead serve up 21 brand new tracks coming from a mix of familiar names (Emperor Machine, DJ Rocca, Tronik Youth) and newcomers. The overall vibe leans towards cosmic and Italo disco, but that's a very broad-brush picture - there are tracks here that could, variously, be filed equally well under house, techno, electro, Balearica or prog. Psychedelic electronic disco at its best.

Review: Damon Jee and Snem K havce moved from party-ready house and techno to far-out swarms of Neo-romantic cold wave...and that's absolutely fine by us! The duo team up for this new EP on Rotten City Flies, kicking of with the nostalgic yet progressive dance aesthetics of "Dear Humans" - sounding a list like Ian Curtis in his golden days - before dropping into the steelier sounds of "Do Carry On", another 80s-leaning dance number. There's two remixes on the flip: Demian's more house-centric version of the title track, whereas legend Mugwump transforms "Do Carry On" into a cinematic big beat roller that'll do more than fine at most festivals. BAD!

Review: Veteran French electro-disco dude Damon Jee is back and we're glad to report he's still keeping things goth. The Summer No Summer EP features two slow and deep body music cuts. The title track is minutes of depressed electro-pop, in the coolest possible way, whilst "Cuir Rouge" is a suspense-filled slice of menacingly throbbing new beat. Also the former is given a post-punk overhaul by Hardway Bros, whilst the latter reappears as a livelier Giorgio Moroder-esque "Il Est Villaine Cuir" reinterpretation.
