Review: Dana Ruh has made a lot of great music over the years, much of it in a trademark personal style that's deep, dubby and tailor-made for bleary-eyed early morning dancefloors. Even so, the first lady of Berlin deep house has gone even deeper on 'Different Places Different Favourites', her first outing on Smallville. Check first 'The Spirit', where echoing synth stabs and gentle acid lines ride a weighty, dub house style bassline and locked-in drums, before admiring the spacey, Move D-esque brilliance of 'TJ Mornings'. Elsewhere, 'L.A Nights' is dreamy, deep, hazy and soulful - U.S deep house viewed through a cloud of jazz cigarette smoke - and 'Reach Out For Me' pairs the wonky, stripped-back sonics of bleep with Ruh's trademark deep, dubby house crackle. Impeccable.

Review: German producer Dana Ruh seems to be on an upward trajectory. Having got a foothold in the scene by launching her own label, Brouqade, back in 2007, she has since released well thought of tracks on Ostgut Ton and Buzzin' Fly. To Me offers a glimpse to where she's at right now, mixing chords, pads and melodies that recall classic Detroit techno moments with the bubbling grooves and shuffling tempo of US deep house. The title track leads the way, peppering a fluid, late night groove with tasty vocal samples. "To Be Free" mines the rich seam of classic New York garage (think vintage MK, with a deep house twist), while "Feel" gently paddles in the sparkling waters of soundscape deep house.

Review: One of Damian Lazarus's main strengths as a DJ is that he understands the art of being a curator. It probably has a lot to do with his role as A&R for City Rockers and now his own label, but Lazarus is an expert at sourcing music that others may have overlooked and blending it with other gems. It explains why the fourth Get Lost is not full of big tunes on hyped labels, but instead contains the spacey house of Nitin's "Blink Twice", the 808 electro drums of Nico Purman's "Fade Away" and the seductive orchestral woodwind of Mario & Vidis Lazarus's "Kashyyyk" - an anthem in the parallel world where Lazarus reigns .

Review: German producer Dana Ruh makes her debut for Buzzin' Fly following a decent outing on Ostgut Ton. With four distinct cuts to choose from, Kickboxing is quietly impressive. It's the title track that most impresses, building an intoxicating, late night brew of typically Germanic deep house grooves and freestyle vocal loops. The acid-tinged "This" is a pleasingly dark excursion, whilst "That" is an urgent old-skool bumper that profits from great use of analogue riffs and bass. "What I'm Telling You", meanwhile, reverts to the eyes-wide-shut blissfulness hinted at in the EP opener. Good stuff all told.

Review: Berlin's Berghain / Panoramabar is now one of, if not the most infamous club in the world. Although spending the entire of this review discussing the club would not even begin to scratch the surface of its impact on clubbing culture, this release is about its label offshoot, Ostgut Ton. Andre Galluzzi (one of the club's residents) set the imprint on its way in 2005 with his pivotal, dark and edgy Berghain 01 compilation. Five years later, the German returns to the label for the first time to deliver a two tracker of cutting edge, percussive techno. Joined by close colleague, Dana Ruh, the pair dive deep into dizzyingly hypnotic territories to bring a slice of the notorious club?s dancefloor to record. Dana, who runs the Broquade platform, highly respected for exploring elegant sound inclinations, is already poised for further collaborations with Galluzzi.
The title track is an understated cut whose attitude and personality lies within the strength of insistent drum patterns, long rolling arrangements and its straight forward approach to the task at hand. Flourishing relentlessly forward, fluttering, tribal-like vocal utterances smear the top layer of sound, adding to the exotic and mysterious vibe. On the flip, "Mauersegler" continues the highly percussive journey but delves deeper into wild terrain, carving itself out a much more urgent path. Tripping delay effects and soft voice manipulations drag the listener further down into this undulating slice of next wave minimalism. Lost in a spinning world of drums and deep grooves, spell-bound listeners are reminded once more what Galluzzi, and his resident Berlin club for that matter, can do to even the most fortified minds.
