Review: Last year, Kapote joined forces with regular home Toy Tonics to release Teutonik Disaster, a compilation of his own re-edits of late '70s and early '80s, "German new wave funk". 12 months on he returns to the same label with a new collection, Mushroom House, which boasts a mixture of Balearic, Afro and cosmic-influenced cuts from the imprint's vaults. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the rubbery, dubbed-out Afro-house bounce of Ponty Mython's 'Slippin' Into Darkness' and the dusty Afro-disco haziness of Munk's 'Nigerian Jam', to the intergalactic electro trip of the Asphodells' killer remix of 'The Circular Path' by the Deadstock 33s, and the deep space Italo-disco chug of Baldelli's sparkling 'Phobos (2020 Version)'.

Review: Berlin-based Haaksman is known in leftfield/eclectic circles as the man who, back in the mid-00s, helped popularise Baile funk in Europe. These days he runs Man Recordings, a 'tropical bass' label that "cultivates trans-continental sound dialogues between Europe, South America and Africa", and the likes of Peterson and Scruff are big fans. All of which gives you an idea of what to expect on 'Black Atlantica Edits', as he repurposes 10 percussion-heavy cuts from the southern hemisphere for more adventurous western dancefloors. World music devotees, drum circle enthusiasts and lovers of complex polyrhythms will find much to enjoy here.

Review: breathing new life into "Baille funk and other unclassifiable Brazilian rhythms", it makes perfect sense that he'd want to showcase some of his best work on one must-have collection. Haaksman's genius has always been his ability to find the middle ground between the needs of European dancefloors and his South American source material. This approach is at the heart of Remixes 2008-2017, though ironically some of the most enjoyable rubs here - particularly the brilliant revisions of Makina Del Karibe and Jalla Banda - are less concerned with out and out dancefloor devastation. Haaksman can do heavyweight bangers, though, and there's plenty of full-throttle, bass-heavy tropical house dotted throughout the compilation.

Review: You have got to hand it to Daniel Haaksman: the Berliner continues to fight the good fight, swimming against the current that is the city's ever burgeoning techno and house music scene to push the pseudo-exotic electronic music sounds of South America and Africa on his respected Man Recordings. His latest offering features the bombastic and accordion led groove of "Fun Fun Fun" which sits somewhere between bass music and Baile funk. Second offering "Ana Ana Ana" channels the spirit of West African dance music in all its life affirming and irresistible glory.

Review: According to those behind the label, Toy Tonics' Mushroom House compilation was inspired by "the new wave of weirdo house" that's inspired by "ethno, Afro and psychedelic music". The collection's 15 tracks include a swathe of new or previously unheard cuts from the likes of Auntie Flo, Daniel Avery & Justin Robertson, Daniel Haaksman, Hyenah and Drrrtyhaze. With such a strong line-up, it's no surprise that the music is uniformly excellent. Highlights include, but are not limited to, DJ Koze's superb Hudson River Dub of WhoMadeWho's eccentric "Keep Me In My Plane", the epic build-ups and trippy, dubbed-out riffs of Munk and Rebolledo's "Surf Smurf", and the psychedelic acid attack of Massimiliano Pagliara's remix of Barotti's "She Once Knew".

Review: Man Recordings head honcho Daniel Haaksman presents the African Fabrics LP. For the 11 tracks on here, Haaksman said he re-created internet and street market finds with current bass music styles, fuelled by the global melting pot of the internet in which genres hybridise and new sounds emerge. You can hear afro, footwork, minimal marimba house or even a two-step bass track paired with a kalimba. Haaksman is no stranger to exotic music: many years ago when he first discovered the emerging bass heavy sounds coming out of Brazil's favelas, he named it 'Baile-Funk' a name that still sticks today, so you can trust the DJ on this one. Guests on the album include Spoek Mathambo label mainstay Stefan Morth aka KU BO, Portuguese trio Throes + The Shine, Dama Do Bling and Alcindah.

Review: Berlin-dwelling Daniel Haaksman, recently showcased his newfound interest in African music on his second album, African Fabrics. Here the lead track, "Akabongi" gets the single treatment being released in its own right and bundled with some new remixes. The original featuring the mighty Spoek Mathambo gets extended into five minutes of infectious Afro tech bliss. Elsewhere Mo Laudi calms the vibes down to a more relaxed sway whilst exaggerating the atmospherics and Boyfriend delivers a half-time rendition that lends the tune song hip-hop kudos. Exciting stuff!

Review: Undying fusionist Haaksman has never sat still. Having explored sounds from pretty much every continent, here we find him immersed in both the sounds of London and central Africa. The chiselled two-step says Croydon while the sparkling marimba says Congo. Together these elements say 'party on!' Soft, deep but unwaveringly hooky. Review: There's no doubting the influence of post-dubstep, which has extended its reach to this remix package of Haaksman's "Lemba". The Round Table Knights version of the German producer's track brings this approach to the fore: over a tight stepping rhythm that could be mistaken for a Martyn jam, they lay down the seductive, slightly slurred French vocal. Meanwhile, the DZC Deejays also wear this influence openly.
However, on this occasion the drums are organic and rumbling rather than tight and precision-fixated and the vocal appears to have transformed from a sultry French tone to an upbeat Spanish narrative - something that futuristic rhythms have nothing to do with.

Review: It may not be the house community's most unique idea and has been around since the dawn of the form, but when done properly, the fusion of vocals and electronic grooves sounds inspirational. Like Ricardo Villalobos, it sounds like Daniel Haaksman has raided a traditional music archive for the atmospheric, playful vocals that prevail on Lemba. Coupled with organic drums, it is evocative and infectious yet also groovy and DJ-friendly. There is an instrumental version included, which features tight claps and is underpinned by a gently spiralling acid line, but it's the original, in all its rambling, sprawling glory that impresses the most.

Review: Much-feted Munich party-smashers Schlachthofbronx have the honour of being the first to delve into Man's baile funk-referencing back catalogue for this inaugural "DJ Picks" compilation. Daniel Haaksman's gonzo, ghetto-house banger "Pobum Coco" makes the cut, as does Crookers' "Para De Grainha", which features some hefty tropical wobble as well as Brazilian vocalist MC Leka. Some underrated Man classics also make the cut - look out for Genghis Clan's storming "Gathina" or the proto-moombahton of El Remolon's "Vem Que Tem" in particular.
