Review: Dutch dance behemoth Armada Music might be best known for trance and hard dance, but for the last five years their Subjekt offshoot has delivered some killer house music - material that frequently gets played in some of the biggest of big rooms over in Ibiza. This expansive, action-packed collection rounds up some of the label's current White Isle hits, in the process allowing DJs the world over to get their mitts on a swathe of exclusives. Review: Sankeys resident Darius Syrossian was chatting with London tech house legend Bushwacka at the beginning of lockdown about starting a collaboration. When the latter checked out what Syrossian had been releasing on Moxy, there was a feeling that it would indeed work and could be the first of many. With that in mind Crosstown Rebels presents "Return To Jericho", a deep and evocative joint featuring hypnotic polyrhythms and a dubby atmosphere that makes for perfect mood music. This is followed by the more minimal and moodier groove of "Akkabi Blue" that's just perfect for going deeper into the afterhours.

Review: Pumping out the bangers like Corona ain't no thing, Darius Syrossian returns to Hot Creations after making his debut back in 2018 with the Moxy EP. The lead track, defined by its crunchy warehouse boom and stuttering 909 percussion, sees a subtle bassline hold down a major groove while various vocal snippets and narratives of bravado fill in the gaps. "Boujee B" on the flip opts for an instrumental, tribal and tech house alternative, full of heavy offbeat percussion, keys, progressions and pumping club vibes.

Review: Riva Starr's Snatch! celebrate 10 years in the game in 2020, and this collection rounds up the best of their output over the latter half of that first decade. Tuff, chuggy tech-house is, unsurprisingly, the dominant sound here, but it's by no means all that's on offer - Rogue D flirts with 80s boogie on 'Take It Easy', for instance, while Soul Speech loops up Heatwave's 'Boogie Nights' on 'Soul Speech'. With tracks from the heavy-hitting likes of Max Chapman, Darius Syrossian, Steve Bug, Groove Armada, Wade and Denis Cruz, and cheeky reworks of classics like 'My Beat' and 'Pride (A Deeper Love)', there's useful ammunition here for house jocks of many different micro-persuasions.

Review: Already road-tested at his Ibiza residency during the summer, Syrossian says that "Danzer" was made in response to his frustration at modern house and techno. Certainly, its stream of consciousness vocal sample, shimmering chords and massive, filtered disco riff will endear it to any one who has grown sick of by the numbers gloomy techno. On the 'Techno Tool' take, the chords are deeper and more intense, while the bass booms powerfully. The other interpretation, offered by Adesse Versions, is markedly different. It see him lower the tempo, add in steely drums and drop a wiry acid line that niggles and nags like a Mediterranean matriarch.

Review: Alongside the likes of yourself, you can bet that Mark Knight & Co. will be also be a known presence at Amsterdam Dance Event in 2018 and indeed they'll be well prepared with the appropriate tools - as this killer compilation proves. Highlights on this annual edition come from Maceo Plex - whose remix of "Nervous Tics" (feat Holly Walker) by hot British duo Maribou State takes you to the dark side, label chief Knight's massive rework of Sterling Void's eternal anthem "It's Alright" (feat Paris Brightledge) will surely get the hands in the air, as will Adesse Versions' edit of legend Kerri Chandler's "The Boom Can" and many others over the collection's five dozen tracks. Review: Having spent 14 years building up his reputation via releases on an impressive list of underground house and techno labels, Leeds lad Darius Syrossian has earned his shot at the big time. That chance comes via the mighty Hot Creations crew, who has decided to make this two tracker their first vinyl release of 2018. The real killer is A-side "Moxy", a bustling beast built around the kind of booming sub-bass pulses that were once a big feature of house and techno tracks created in the producer's home city. Combine these with Syrossian's rolling beats, foreboding stabs and a breakdown full of sharp beat edits and weird noises, and you have a proper peak-time beast on your hands.

Review: "!Kollections" banner. Each focuses on a certain aspect of the long-running label's vast back catalogue. The fourth edition, for example, focused on disco. "Reflections", the latest volume, is not as tight stylistically and instead gathers together tracks that tend towards the deep, poignant, beautiful and melancholy. There are many treats amongst the 27 showcased selections, with highlights including an impeccable chunk of string-laden downtempo pop from DJ Tennis and Fink, a dreamy slice of loved-up house warmth from Lone, the bustling, dream house era Mediterranean holiday memories of Mugwump's "God is Gracious" and the thrusting, big room-friendly late night hypnotism of Dubfire's "Dust Devil".

Review: The Nu Breed series was conceived back in the early 00s as a means of showcasing upcoming DJs of that era, such as Danny Howells and Lee Burridge. Now that the series has re-launched, the same concept applies and the latest DJ to feature is German spinner Oliver Schories. With a focus on deep, emotional house music, he weaves an intoxicating path that moves from the slurred vocals of Rico Puestel's "Volute" and the melancholic piano keys of Black Light Smoke's "Fire in My Head" into driving, techy tracks like Jamie Trench's "It Never Stops" and Oliver Deutschmann's hypnotic minimalism, "Control", before climaxing with Chateau Flight's sprawling remake of AtJazz's "It's Complete". Here's to the next generation of new breed DJs.

Review: The latest release on Alan Fitzpatrick's label comes from Darius Syrossian, a DJ who is inextricably linked to Manchester thanks to his work at Sankey's. Fittingly, "Made For.." starts off with a tight, rhythm-heavy groove, but then breaks into a wide-eyed, vocal-tinged break down. It's exactly the kind of interplay that works with the big room crowds that Syrossian plays to. The label owner himself is tasked with the rework, and rises admirably to the occasion. Upping the tempo and toughening up the kicks, the larger than life producer's take centres on snappy percussion, the occasional use of the vocal sample from the original and a clanging, brutal bass.

Review: Tribal Sessions resident and all round hero on the Leeds scene Darius Syrossian returns after great recent releases for 8 bit, Material Series and of course Breakout Audio. This time it's for Riva Starr's Snatch! with three tough rolling cuts with the main room at peak time in mind. Starting off with the swing fuelled stomper that is "Fugazi Land" while "Moon Buggy" gets more techy on you and with a monster bassline: all after the big drop of course! Finally London's Brett Gould injects more funk and groove into the aforementioned "Fugazi Land" allowing for more dancefloor dynamic.

Review: Liverpool institution Circus just recently served up another volume of Moments series which resulted in some killer tracks by resident David Glass among others. Now they look to the motherland entirely on the fourth volume of their Selector series, featuring some totally killer tech house selections. Resident Yousef gives us "Strange Girl"; this is tough and rolling funk energy that's got just the right of bounce and sleaze to work heaving crowds at his residency this Summer. Leeds legend Darius Syrossian appears too with the rough and grinding trance arpeggio of "My Favourite Riot". Finally Hot Creations mainstay Richy Ahmed appears also, with probably the most restrained track on offer with "Layer Cake"; a funky and jacking electro-house groove that's just wicked!

Review: The legend of nightlife in Leeds and The White Isle alike, Darius Syrossian is a force to be reckoned with these days. Now appearing on Mihalis Safras esteemed Material imprint, you know what to expect: rolling, funked up, peak time tech house for the main room by a guy who knows what works! Starting out with the adrenalised main room groove of the aptly titled "Mischief Brew" (wAFF Big Room Mix), by a fellow Leeds upstart: this one's properly fierce! The gutsy peak time techno stomp of "Tyrannosaurus Sex" is more functional and straight ahead for fans of Material's usual flair and will appeal to fans of labels of funky techno like Truesoul or Saved.

Review: Since launching in 2012, Jaymo and Andy George's Moda Black label - an offshoot of their already successful Moda label - has steadily risen to become one of the most well-regarded house labels around. The imprint's style - a tactile, atmospheric blend of tech-house, deep house, bass and woozy, funk-fuelled big room grooves - seems to have a knack of capturing the zeitgeist. Here, the two label owners deliver the third instalment in their annual mix series, showcasing tracks released by the imprint in the last 12 months. Smooth, accessible and entertaining, with plenty of standout cuts (see the warehouse acid of Sidney Charles' "Wax Digger '88" and Hauswerks & Saul Summers' sweaty "Just Want U"), Moda Black Volume III is a fitting celebration of a label whose stock continues to rise.

Review: There's something deliciously infectious about "Who's The Douche", the lead cut from Darius Syrossian and Hector Couto's debut EP for Hot Creations. Rolling along on a booming, MK-ish groove, but boosted by cut-up vocals, it's like a 21st century take on hip-house that's near impossible to dislike. The prominent "funky bass" vocal sample gets recycled on the sub-bass propelled basement burner "We Both Loco". "Can You Feel It" is a more subdued affair, with more prominence given to deep, late night synths and wide-eyed builds. Closer "House is House" sits somewhere between all three tracks, delivering a mix of low-end wobble, shuffling grooves and wisely chosen vocal samples

Review: This summer, Steve Lawler is hosting a midweek party at Sankeys Ibiza under the Viva Warriors title. Here, he joins forces with fellow resident Darius Syrossian to lay down a two disc mix set that touches on all of his usual inspirations. That means an atmospheric trawl through nuggety darkroom house, tribal flavours and murky tech-house, with additional helpings of basement-baiting New York deepness and European fluidity. In truth, Viva Warriors is arguably more fun and upbeat than many of Lawler's recent mixes, suggesting a new-found love of reaching out for the lasers and hip-wigglin' groovery. Maybe that's Syrossian's influence; either way, it makes for an enjoyable two-disc mix-up.
