Review: We have often spoken about how excited we are to hear new Infernal Sounds projects, with today's being the cherry on the top of a very exciting year so far. Having had them as guests on The JunoDownload podcast, we knew this drop was going to be a bit crazy, as they unveil twelve storming originals from some of the biggest names to grace the label, including the likes of Fiend, Causa, Bukkha, J:Kenzo, Sabab, Ternion Sound & more, all delivering power dubstep creations and upping the levels from one track to the next. The entire tracklisting is crazy, but our standouts would have to include firstly the warbling synthesizer rattles of Nova's 'Calivate', a storming original that really hits home on where dubstep is today. We would also have to include the gnarly electronic melodies of 'Gutta' from Dark Tantrums, alongside the more subtle chord structures and syncopated bliss of Oxossi's 'Wyldin'.

Review: Dark Tantrums (real name Anthony Hope-Thomson) is a British dubstep producer who has had previous releases on Deep Medi Musik, Artikal Music and Origin Audio. His latest comes courtesy of the ever reliable Daku imprint run by Sukh Knight out of London. Meeting at the intersection of UK bass and intelligent jungle is the evocative opener "Roots", while the hypnotic and meditative sonic qualities of the title track show another dimension altogether to this young producer. Finally, the massive and rolling bassline of "Special Place" performs centre stage to a lush backdrop of ethereal and exotic sounds.

Review: It seems as if there is no stopping the fire that LW Recordings have lit as they put together yet another heavyweight compilation, this time featuring 25 absolute stormers from some of the waviest faces in the scene. Stylistically, the LP ranges quite drastically from neurotic breakbeat rhythms and hardstyle bassline to more chilled out UKG themes and unusual 2 steppy flavours. For us the immediate highlights are quite obvious, those being Gosize's euphoric breakbeat adventure in the emotive chords and perfectly crafted breaks of 'Take Me To Heaven', along with Nadine's dancefloor heavy rework of 'Riff' by Nubass. A special mention has to also go to TBFM & Chilllito for their incredibly smooth 'Did You Really Care' creation.

Review: Dark Tantrums has been on a fantastic run of releases of late, and that trend is set to continue as he teams up with J:Kenzo's Artikal imprint for a heavyweight single drop. This brand new track entitled 'Rage' is a reesey warhead, focussed around a gnarly central bass synth with percussive backing rotating above and below like clockwork. When you couple this with the demonic chord structure and punchy drum processing you are going to be in for a treat.

Review: RDG's Circle Vision creeps up from behind and surprises us with their first V/A EP. Satisfaction levels remain fully flexed as the whole collection is a shoes-off, brain-blown and hair-raised affair throughout: Causa bends minds with a really tripped out bass drone and drum arrangement, Taiko gets all snarly, slimy and similarly illusionary with weirded-out reverse textures and resampled. Deeper again Dark Tantrums devil up the dance with tightly coiled tension while the bossman shoots us to the stars with the spacious space-bound sub stepper "Galaxy Run". Visionary to infinity...

Review: Duploc's the perfect home to Dark Tantrum's brooding, meandering strain of dubstep, so number fifteen in the label's catalogue feels like a master stroke from the label. The Deep Medi associate is absolutely no mood to dither with these two smoking joints; the first one, "31 Seconds" is an ode to mid-90s d&b thanks to that infamous sample, but it's the track's militant low end that makes it stand out and explode out the speakers and onto the floor. "Space Age" is equally venomous in its tone, but here Dark Tantrums churns out the wobble to its very limits, a fuzzy procession of low frequencies that gives the likes of Coki a good run for his money!

Across the 40 tracks every single shade is covered; from rave-tinged (Noisia's remix of "Smack My Bitch Up") to all-out technicolour bass (Drumsound & Bassline Smith), This Is Dubstep 2013 pays respect to all corners of the dance - including the really far-out experimentations of Mala and his Cuban project. With exclusives such as V.I.V.E.K's "Barcelona" and Killawatt's "Single Entity" thrown in for good measure, this isn't just a summary of today's dubstep; it's a slice of the future too.
