Said The Spider
Review: Following up his recently released debut album (after over a decade in the game) two Oris Jay tracks gain two very different remixes. First up, Surgeon, one of the undisputed masters of industrial techno, turns his hand to Jay's classic "Said The Spider" (under his Darqwan alias), and joins the dots between the jungle of the original and breakbeat techno and early 90s rave. Next, Sheffield based techno producer Aitcho remixes recent album track "Flashing Light", taking the UK garage vibe of the original and marrying it with a similarly bright 90s techno aesthetic.

Sukkah
Review: Continuing with his revisitation of classic Texture output from back in the day, Oris Jay digs out this classic two tracker featuring himself as Darqwan and Loefah and makes it available for digital purchase. "Sukkah" finds the Swamp81 boss man in his early prime, exercising maximum restraint while dropping slow-release pulses of bass and a laconic beat that positively resonates in the spacious mix. Darqwan meanwhile gets all shirty on the rough and tumble drums of "Warrior Stance", bolstering the clattering beat with grumbling bass and disheveled rave horn parps. You can count on this kind of quality to do the damage against any modern pretenders in the dubstep game.

Metro
Review: After slaying the competition in the early days of dubstep, Oris Jay does the honorable thing for the non-vinyl heads and sets about uploading some gems from his Darqwan moniker. This visceral set of bangers employs Jays quintessentially deft handling of breakbeats in a 140 context and plenty of grinding synth action with none of the tackiness. In the spirit of jungle "Metro" kicks off on a sweet melodic lead in before the nastiness whips up an instant storm. "Jacks New Swing" meanwhile goes more outwardly into a jazzy breaks headspace, creating a seriously ruff kind of broken beat that would have scared West London back in the day. "Cold Symptoms" rounds things off with an assured strike, hitting hard without getting too fancy or clever about it while sporting equally immaculate production.
