Review: Mireia's latest EP is something of an all-star affair, with a quintet of well-regarded artists and up and coming producers contributing cuts. Polish studio buff Das Komplex kicks things off with the Balearic-minded, bass guitar-driven dancefloor positivity of "Las", before Johannes Klingbeil doffs a cap to Kraftwerk and cheery '80s synth-pop on the wonderfully melodious "Boys Club". Elsewhere, Manual Binder joins forces with Julian Stetter on the exotic deep house/nu-disco fusion of "Porto", RSS disco dips the tempo on the warm and woozy "We'll Sea" and Conga Fever takes a deep dive into jazz guitar-laden ambient house pastures on the sun-kissed and loved-up closer "Family Affairs".

Review: Over the last four years, unheralded Polish scene hero Maciek Sienkiewicz has quietly gone about turning his Father & Son Records and Tapes (FASRAT) label into a must-check imprint for those who like to be surprised and inspired in equal measure. It's for this reason that the label's latest compilation - its third in total - demands your attention. Amongst the thrillingly varied 24-track selection you'll find a cut that sounds like an audio fist fight between Autechre and the Bug ("Candyflipper" by Ifs), an ultra deep and dubby dancefloor throb-job (Steam's "Muzyka Sekwencyina"), a colourful rush through synth-powered nu-disco/house fusion (Millhaus's "Jet Set Leg"), some bluesy dub disco/lo-fi jazz-house fusion (Volvo's "Suibidub") and some suitably popping, bass-heavy beats (Naphta). And that's just for starters. A must check release.

Review: Das Komplex is a Polish producer who had been anonymously producing tunes in his remote hometown for nearly a decade before being recently discovered. Ever since his big break he's kept the jams a' comin' - here he serves up some "Pudding" and who are we to refuse? There are five courses, sorry, tunes to enjoy here - the laid back and sunny disco-funk of the title track, the dubbed out haze of "Saw", the deep, slo-mo beats of "Piano", the breathy nature-referencing grooves of "Concrete Jungle" and lastly, the fluffy analogue swirls of the dreamy "One Moment". Textbook chill.

Review: One modest man known as Das Komplex has been steadily producing music for almost a decade now in his quiet hometown of Koszalin in Western Pomerania region of Poland. It could have stayed like this if not for Maciek Sienkiewicz (veteran DJ and promoter, one of the pioneers of Polish electronic music scene), who picked some tunes for his new label FASRAT. As the artist himself prefers to stay out of the spotlight, let the music speak for itself: from sun-drenched, guitar-driven "Like A Fish" (remixes coming from some key players in modern disco/Balearic scene), through futuristic disco of "Narkoleptyczni Troche" and hazy deepness of "Nowadays", towards epic, over 13 minutes long, jazzy, dreamy, but no less energetic "Siren". Elegant, original, infectious grooves for club play and home listening alike. Limited edition with cover art by acclaimed contemporary painter Aleksandra Waliszewska.

Review: Hailing from Poland, Das Komplex delivers uncharacteristically sun-kissed disco cuts that dream of distant, tropical shores. Here "Kaczen" takes the listener on a vintage-sounding 17-minute odyssey that incorporates plenty of spacey effects, funky basslines and cowbells aplenty. There are remixes too; Rickhard & Lindbaeck tackle "Like A Fish", turning it into mournful, echoey dreamwave in the process and "Siren" gets twisted into a tense, John Carpenter-style electronic bleeper by U Ka.

Review: Without attracting much hype, Das Komplex was responsible for some of the most enjoyable, dub-fuelled disco and Balearic releases of 2016. He's started 2017 in pretty confident fashion, too, delivering more fine fare via Father & Son Records & Tapes, People Must Jam and, now, Love On The Rocks. Interesting, this outing is a little bolder, woozier and weirder than some outings, though his love of reverb and delay remains a constant. "Szlugi" is an eccentric fusion of clattering drum machine percussion, trippy synthesizer motifs and lo-fi electronics, while "Polenz" effortlessly joins the dots between cosmic disco, jazz-funk and sample-heavy deep house. Best of all, though, is epic flipside "Flauta", a musically rich, Clavinet-heavy dub disco affair that rises and falls for 13 spellbinding minutes.

Review: Any time that DJ Harvey gives us a sneak peek into the current contents of his record bag - sorry, USB stick - is a cause for celebration. As you can imagine, we're cock-a-hoop that he's decided to deliver a follow-up to his superb 2017 compilation "The Sound of Mercury Rising". As with its predecessor, volume two offers a giddy skip through chiming, synth-heavy original Balearic classics (Mandy Smith, Hugh Mane), weirdo European disco (Marta Acuna), evocative electronic soundscapes (System Olympia), blue-eyed synth-pop (Pamela Nivens), drum machine-powered Middle Eastern madness (Switchdance's sublime "Arabian Ride")and a swathe of tasty contemporary cuts (the jaunty jazz-funk of Midlife, Das Komplex's ace "Slap", Nu Guinea's splendid "Je Vulesse" and Peaking Lights remix of Land of Light being the highlights).

Review: Given his love of dub disco, dusty samples, skewed house and all things cosmic, it's arguably surprising that Pillow Talk marks Das Komplex's first appearance on Prins Thomas and Kai Fraeger's Internasjonal label. It's less of a surprise to find that the EP - featured here in extended six-track form (the vinyl version only has four) - is a belter. For proof, check the cowbell-sporting, bass guitar-heavy, piano stab-showcasing dub disco chug of 'Pillow Stories', the effects-laden, edits-not-edit early morning disco fun of 'Onomatopeaja Slimacza' and the pitched-down brilliance of 'By The Hand', a breathlessly heavy, percussion-rich slab of Afro-disco/dub disco fusion that makes great use of sneaky samples. 'Nawet' and 'Parawany', both of which are very Prins Thomas style space disco workouts, are also well worth a listen.

Following this success, they rightly decided to develop a series hat celebrates the wealth of talent in their home country. This is the second instalment in the Friends Of Pets series and features five quality jams to enjoy. Highlights include the disco-turns-deep-synth-fest of "Shadows" by Das Komplex, the grinding acid sleaze of "Sweizy Oddech" by Seltron 400 and the low-key and moody electro vibes of Grateful's "An On Bast".
