Dasco

DASCO's energy is infectious. Just watch a clip of her behind the decks or catch her in action and you'll find it impossible to disagree. The Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner has been setting dancefloors alight over the past decade. A true house and techno aficionado, the roots of her sound can be traced back to electronic music’s golden age of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Carrying an undeniable sense of joy and liberation, she effortlessly blurs the lines between classic and contemporary; traits that continue to endear her to new audiences aplenty.
As a DJ, DASCO has graced the decks of a host of renowned dancefloors, including Panorama Bar, Bassiani, Into the Woods and Polifonic Festival. She's also performed in Sydney, Tokyo and Cape Town, leaving her mark on audiences each and every time.
DASCO also runs her own label, Bisexuality Exists. Founded in 2022, it celebrates the diversity of the electronic music community and is vehemently dedicated to capturing the euphoria of the dancefloor. Says DASCO: “As a bisexual, it’s important for me to campaign against biphobia and bi-erasure. With the label, I would like to show the world that music - like life - is rarely ever black or white. There are so many beautiful colours in between... Bisexuality Exists aims to spread love, happiness and unity through music.” The label’s latest release is the exceptional "Feel My Love". Uplifting, energetic and diverse, it’s exactly the sort of slamming house tune that DASCO herself would reach into her cosmic bag for.
As a female artist, DASCO has faced firsthand the challenges and biases that women often encounter. Driven by a desire to empower other women through her music, she encourages them to fearlessly pursue their dreams despite gender discrimination. An advocate for embracing individuality and expressing oneself boldly, she takes pride in femininity, strength, and independence.
Away from her aforementioned imprint, DASCO recently released the Powerful Woman EP on Shall Not Fade. A release that’s indicative of her outlook as well as a firm commitment to the dancefloor, it’s been rapturously received, and continues to earn support months after its release.
With her trailblazing spirit and unyielding determination, DASCO shows no signs of slowing down. Fuelled by innovation and a desire to leave her own mark, her journey continues to be defined by joy and celebration. Keep a watchful eye on this singular artist as she continues to spread her colourful interpretation of electronic music as only she can.

Powerful Woman (Chicago Skyway remix) - (6:11) 128 BPM
Review: Following a handful of choice releases on Housewax, Local Talk and her own Bisexuality Exists Records, Dasco makes her bow on esteemed Bristol imprint Shall Not Fade. The Berlin-based Israeli is in prime form on title track 'Powerful Woman', a forceful acid roller propelled forwards by a relentless TB-303 line, clattering TR-909 drums and flashes of trippy synth sounds. It comes backed by raw, squelchy and breathless jack-track 'Acid Queen' and two fab remixes of 'Powerful Woman': a techno meets 'Behaviour'-era Pet Shop Boys chunk of bittersweet deepness from Johannes Volk, and a thrillingly distorted, lo-fi acid-electro revision courtesy of Chicago Skyway. In a word: brilliant!

Kyoto Jazz Sextet - "Mission" (Jaxx Madicine remix) - (7:11) 125 BPM
Review: Over the years, Local Talk bosses Mad Mats and Tooli have proved to be shrewd operators when it comes to commissioning remixes. As a result, the label's vaults are full of killer re-rubs, as this fourth collection of reworked highlights proves. Beginning with an inspired Ron Trent jazz-dance revision of Kyoto Jazz Sextet's 'Rising', the set smoothly moves between life-affirming, musically rich Latin house (Anthony Nicholson reworking DASCO), jazz-funk flavoured 4/4 smoothness (Kaidi Tatham tweaking Coflo), soul-fired organic house jazziness (Waajeed remixing Crackazat), analogue-rich late might hypnotism (a show-stopping Jamie 3:26 re-wire of Soulphiction) and sunset-ready tropical house (TRinidadiandeep's inspired re-frame of DASCO's 'African Power').

Soulphiction - "Beehive" (Classic mix) - (6:12) 125 BPM
Review: Local Talk's periodic round-up of classic cuts from the label's bulging back catalogue returns for an eighth time, with imprint founders Mad Mats and Tooli gathering together a predictably fine selection of tracks. Most bases are covered - house-wise, at least - from trumpet-laden Afro-house brilliance (Dasco's "African Power"), and ultra-soulful, Atjazz-esque broken house deepness (Wipe The Needle's super-smooth "Enchanted"), to "French Kiss"-inspired house hypnotism (Soulphiction's "Believe"), 21st century jazz-funk/deep house fusion (Crackazat's fine rework of Art of Tones' "The Rainbow Song") and ultra-deep, Nina Simone-sampling dancefloor bliss (Emvee's "Brotherman"). In a word: essential.

Keep Movin' (Anthony Nicholson Mediterranian Disco remix) - (8:32) 125 BPM
Review: Israeli and Berlin-based DJ/producer Dasco has put out a fair number of singles over the last few years, but none are anywhere near as good as "African Power", their first outing on Local Talk. The title track is superb: a wonderfully jaunty, atmospheric, evocative and positive fusion of Afro-house, jazz, deep house and calypso that boasts layered percussion, a brilliant bassline and some lusciously lilting trumpet solos. "Keep Moving", meanwhile, is a heavily percussive deep house workout full of spacey synths and heavy South American drums. Trinidadian Deep does a fine job making "African Power" deeper, dreamier and even more melodic, while Anthony Nicholson joins the dots between Latin house and deep nu-disco on a suitably Balearic revision of "Keep Moving".
