Plissken Prologue (Raw mix) - (5:46) 90 BPM
Review: A bit of a curveball here from Mathmos as he explores slightly tuffer, darker styles than we're used to hearing from him. So it's testament to his production prowess that these four cuts work just as well, in their own way, as the groovier, more melodic sounds that are his usual stock-in-trade. 'My Name Is Snake' is a driving, mid-paced cut with techno overtones and chunks of dialogue from 'Escape To New York', 'Techno Duke' also (unsurprisingly) leans towards techno, while 'Street Inferno' drops the tempo and ventures into leftfield electronica territory. 'Plissken Prologue (Raw Mix)' then completes the EP by revisiting the title track's vocal samples in hallucinogenic, extended interlude form.

Me Gusta La Lasagna (Balearic mix) - (6:41) 92 BPM Hot
Me Gusta La Lasagna (Dubbosa mix) - (6:44) 92 BPM
Review: Australia-based Italian slo-mo don Dave Mathmos returns with a new single-track offering, albeit that one track is presented in two quite different mixes - both of which do pretty much exactly what they say on the tin. The Balearic Mix is a lilting, reggae/tropical-infused affair with a sing-song French vocal, fluttering Spanish guitars and, as we near the end, just a hint of bubblin' acid. The Dubbosa Mix, unsurprisingly, is a more dub-wise pass that brings the reggae backbeat to the fore and then gets a fair bit heavier and synthier over the top. One for the warm-up and one for the 5am gurners, then.

Review: Although it's only recently that he's hit the headlines thanks to a fine EP of slo-mo re-edits on Too Slow To Disco, Dave Mathmos has been tweaking, re-editing and remixing music for a decade - hence his expansive collection of 'hits and unreleased projects' from the archive. He begins with a tasteful, subtly housed-up revision of George Benson ('Come On Out Tonight (House Mix)') and ends with a spruced-up, all-action take on Kate Bush ('Dangerous Games'); in between, you'll find a multitude of party-starting highlights including the low-slung disco-funking of 'Down Down Down (Retouch)', the Philly Soul-goes-house flex of 'Why Don't You', the Barry White-ish 'Ex-Stasy', and soulful Stevie Wonder revision 'All I Do Is Music'.

Review: Adelaide-based Italian Dave Mathmos is a prolific re-editor, as a quick glance at his website will quickly prove. He's featured on Too Slow To Disco's edits series before, back in 2019, though this EP is a far more expansive and action-packed affair. There's plenty to savour across the seven tracks on show, with our picks of a very strong bunch including the rubbery, slap bass-propelled AOR disco excellence of 'Encore Une Histoire D'Amour' (a rework of a French language cover of a familiar favourite), the squelchy, Latin-tinged 80s soul gorgeousness of 'Late at Night', a genuine future classic (the mid-80s power synth-pop-goes-electro-disco brilliance of 'My Baby Don't Care', which edits up an unlikely cover of the Beatles) and the reggae infused, low tempo disco-chug of 'Whispers'.
