Review: Now on their sixth Jungle To The World collection, Liondub International and Marcus Visionary get straight into their stride with this latest gigantic collection of contemporary jungle slap-abouts. Some massive names, too... Aries, Dawn Raid, Nicky Blackmarket, Conrad Subs, Mark XTC, Exile and many more contribute to this mission of murkery as we're pinged around from rumbling bassline to neck-snap breakbeat. Review: Following last month's power-packed Natty Dub 'Trench Warfare' collection comes this equally spicy VA featuring highlights, heavers and hurters from across the Natty family. Conrad Subs kickstarts the EP with a little Latin heat on the ludicrously funky 'Salsa Dip' while Saxxon goes monster with his deep dark slammer 'Neptune'. Elsewhere Manny legends Dawn Raid shoot us off into space with 'Mega City One', Jfal goes both cosmic and badboy on 'Run Dance' and Tomoyoshi puts a star-gazing full stop on the EP with the Think break bashing 'Space Funk'

Review: Ghetto Dub Recordings have a long history of putting out music that takes no prisoners on the dancefloor and, whilst we're still clubless, this superb breaks-focused various artists compilation is sure to get your gun fingers raised at home. 'Feel' is the most interesting of the bunch, with an almost grime like approach to its steppy percussion and structured drum claps that reminds us of Diemantle. 'Nastya' is the other highlight, with a piercingly choppy arrangement that sees jabbing stabs tumble over on another in their haste to mess you around, all tied together with a massive reece bass. Oh yes.
Review: This is such a lovely single because it takes things back to basics, there's no attempt to be fancy and Dawn Raid has dialled in exactly what he wants: stripped back drum & bass and jungle that draws upon the heritage of dub and reggae. 'Love Sound' is a mixture of sounds you'll definitely love, it's classic jungle and it walks the line perfectly between heaviness and funkiness, a trademark of the genre and one evident in this tune's bouncy bassline and infectious drums. 'Ez Skankin' is the roller of the pair and strolls along with a nonchalance that will imbue into your mood - proper sunny tune. Wicked work from the Hocus Pocus crew.

Review: Northern scene legend Adam Wigglesworth sadly passed away on April 3. This is how his friends responded... By compiling one of the biggest tribute albums drum & bass has ever seen. Just look at the amount of talent on here: Pyxis, Euphonique, Nvrsoft, No Concept, Exile, Euphonique, Dawn Raid and so many more artists have contribute to this 45 track album of which all proceeds go to Adam's family. From the blazing bass riff of Sappo's late 90s style neck snapper "Hannibal" to Exile's turbine bass growler "Symbiosis" via Sl8r's jazzy, almost Detroit style vibes on "The Mill" and various bits from Wiggo himself, this is a heartfelt salute from the entire scene to a man who'll be sorely missed.
Review: Hocus Pocus might be a phrase associated with magic, but there's no other worldly forces at play with the Masters of Illusion Volume 3 EP. No, it's something much more exciting: well engineered, well curated, exceptional dancefloor drum & bass. It features four different producers and in different ways they all bring a bit of themselves into the equation, starting with 'Cretins' by Dawn Raid, which snaps and crackles its way through a stepping arrangement and tangled basss nodes. K Jah is deep in the hood on 'Deep in The Hood', urban samples litter the arrangement and the vibe is one of a concrete jungle: hard, with nowhere to hide. Unparalleled.

Fresh from the stashes of SR, Kumarachi, Aries, Vinyl Junkie, Conrad Subs, Octo Pi and many more on-point junglists across the generations, many of these tracks are brand new and all of them are heavier than a night down the Weight Watchers. Highlights include Conrad Sub's skanky groaner "Good As Gold", Jaguar Paw's utter filth session "Southside", Jay Aftermath's gnarly tech/soundsystem hybrid "The Jungle" and the pure rave purrs of Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion's "Outlandish"... But that's not even touching the sides of the fifty track attack. Dig deep and get rolling.

Review: Behold Dawn Raid's latest magic trick as they and three friends will change an EP into an entire festival before your very ears. The Manchester label owners cast the first spell as "Bela Moca" conjures up sunset vibes so strong you can smell the campfire while Nian Dub charms us deeper into the night with "Glow Stick Riddim" where soulful vocals and strident Quadrophenia style rave stabs. K Jah's sonic potion us into the cheekiest of hours with some all out jungle ruff on "Power Of Darkness" while Margaman casts the final incantation as he sends us off to bed in the dawn haze with a slithering snake like bassline. Abracadabra and all that.

Review: And now for their next trick, Manchester's finest murk magicians compile some of their finest moments since their last Vanishing Act album, hurl them at you at a rate of 175BPM... And your life will disappear before your very eyes. Authentic D&B jungle rooted in the past but flexing in the future highlights hang off every neck snap beat and gully bassline: the electrifying sizzles of Fire Syne's "Equinox", label bosses Dawn Raid's rave hymn "Amnesia", the frazzled trippy weirdness of K Jah's "Deadly Isotopes" and the venomous viciousness and reverse warpery of Rawtee's "Higher Ground" are just some of the many killer jams on offer here. Here's to another five years of black magic... Bippity boppity BANGERS.
Review: It's a first class trip from Manchester to Bristol on the Ruffneck roller express as Hocus Pocus heroes Dawn Raid deliver four on-point work-outs. "Four Shots" disarms with a jazzy swing and some on-point words from the big guy himself. "Captain Confusion" sees them pairing up with K Jah for some flute-fired dream-laced soul while fellow Manchester man Bou twists up a little darkness on the soulful surges of the Jinx collaboration "Strife". Finally "Grotti" brings the heat as a classic jungle happy ending; ghostly, spacious and just a touch of the Cycle to it, we told you this was first class.

Review: More black magic from Hocus Pocus conjurers Dawn Raid. Consistently on-point, here we find the Northern duo expressing two perfectly contrasting but equally explorative vibes: "Fatal Attraction" hits hard like an old Moving Shadow joint with its Dom-style drums, bellowing subs and soulful vocal. "One Brick" continues the heritage tones with a jungle style sample-n-subs twist up where a dusty hook drops into pure amen energy. Timelessly class.
Review: More northern powerhouse bangers from the consistently heavyweight Dawn Raid outfit. This time we see them return to Randall's Mac 2 with three more ageless joints; "Make Me Move" is the classic jungle roller of the pack with a hefty sub presence and light dustings of rave elements, "The Bartender" applies a more soulful tactic with a great dusty vocal sample and a barbed contemporary twist on the early 2000s liquid sound while "Light The Beacons" brings us back to Randall's raison d'etre - proper, uncompromised jungle. Serious skills.

Review: Classically trained D&B business from Hocus Pocus conjurers Dawn Raid. "Poor Live Trife" could have easily come our way on Full Cycle or Dope Dragon around 1998 thanks to its loose drums, light dusting of jazz and hooky chubby-boy bassline. We're back to similar era for "I'll Be Good" but with more emphasis on the MC vox, rushy synths, widescreen sub and heaven-sent vocal. Both cuts would have killed it 20 years ago, they'll kill it in 20 years time and, most importantly, they kill it now.
Review: Manchester duo Nian Dub smashed it with their debut Aftermath EP on NB Audio back at Christmas. Now they've returned, more confident following this recent conquest. They're certainly getting a heavy reputation for forging out a new future DnB sound and here on "Templar" they really push things forward. The track begins deceptively with deep and dubby vibes before the lasers and pounding, repetitive bass notes arrive to clean up the dancefloor. The mayhem continues on their own remix of Dawn Raid's "Come Get Yours" which features machine gun beats, a few blink-and-you-miss-them amen breaks and brain melting loops. Boom!
Review: Manchester magicians Dawn Raid lay down the Hocus Pocus heaviness again with two timeless D&B history flexes; "Booby Traps" jumps with a classic early 2000s DJ Die sound that's all funky and loose while "Amnesia" goes further back in time to the mid-'90s when Total Science were taking no prisoners. Both executed with Dawn Raid's unique style and energy, these are special.

Review: Hot off Randall's Mac 2 label, Pieces is a ludicrous collection of behemoth tunes found, remixed or simply well-placed in no particular order. Why? Because he's good to us like that. Featuring a stellar line-up of OGs and freshly hooked-up newcomers, this is 18 tracks of pure drum and bass energy ready to make a mess of your cochlea. Special mentions for the DRamatic remix of Lenni Dee Ice's "We Are IE" and Trex's massive stomper "Sudden Impact" which should currently be tearing up the dancefloor in your nearest darkened warehouse with a soundsystem. Instant purchase.

Review: Massive. One word is all you need to describe first track on this tantalising little sampler from Randall, DJ Vapour and Dawn Raid. But for some more; "Angels Warning" is big and ballsy, full of bass and the most amount of fun you can have with your headphones on. "Red Sonja" takes things back to the old school with tripped out junglist breaks, euphoric atmos and diva vocals stretching on out into the small hours. A total blast in a sea of metronomic drum and bass. Get yourselves acquainted.
