Review: When we talk about bass music in the UK, there aren't many people who boast as comprehensive a catalogue as Deadbeat UK, so when we heard he was teaming up with the legendary Project Allout we knew we were in for a treat. He brings us three belting originals here, kicking off with the constantly expanding and switching title track 'My Gang', a creation that boasts some wicked bass design, followed by the niche-inspired synth twists of 'Minesweeper'. Finally, we take a dive into 'The Best', which along with featuring a super catchy vocal line from Kase, is also a perfect garage bass hybrid, stuffed with skippy drumwork and grizzly bass instrumentation from start to finish.
Review: Sheffield steel: Deadbeat UK doesn't release his trademark 4x4 fire as often as we'd like. But when he does; You know it's worth paying full attention. "Hustle All Day" works the hype on a sharp vocal sample before dropping into a layered bassline that strips on every riff. "Quick Turnaround" is all about the feet-down funk with its talking bass stabs and crafty sample tickle on the fill. Finally "Bag Head" pokes fun at the tickers with a sick higher toned bass riff that worms and writhes with menacing delight. Don't leave it so long next time please DBUK!
Review: In his first EP away from recent home Tumble Audio, edgy UKG fella Deadbeat resurfaces here with Out Of Line on the F2 label. There are two new sizzlers to devour - the title track with all its skippy, wobble-heavy attitude and the sample-laden, aggressive bleep-fest, "Young Hustlaz".
Review: Sheffield's Deadbeat UK has already released stuff on labels with such amazing titles as Chip Butty Records and Off Me Nut. The original "What I Need" is a breaky garage belter boasting big soulful diva vocals and comes courtesy of the more sensibly named Project Allout. There's also five big remixes to work with here, the best of which include the brain melting 4 x 4 wobble of Mr Dubz workout, Moony's melodic 2-step and the super-dark AT mix.
Review: Tumble Audio has been providing us with seriously killer bass music for a few years now, and here they celebrate reaching their tenth release by recruiting Roadman Joel to curate a selection of the kind of seriously heavy tunes you might expect to hear at one of their many label nights. There's a whopping 18 tracks on here covering a wide spectrum of British urban dance music, including Majora's ridiculously amazing tribal UKF monster "T&C's", A Motion's ghetto 2-step hybrid "Back In Your Love" and Sentiment's wobble-heavy tropical jam, "Change You".
Review: Project Allout are well known within both the grime and bass scenes for their outstanding compilation work, including their highly respected 'Krampus' series, which here enters its third season. We see a line up absolutely bristling with power as PAR regulars such as Deadbeat UK, Juzlo, Mr Dubz, JG, Dubzta and more all return with some seriously weighty contributions, along with newer faces such as Smodi, Rollsie and more. For us, the highlights include LJ & G1's super skippy 'Bullseye' original, alongside Sir Pixalot's corking melodic composition named 'Transparency'.
Review: Straight out of the heart of Leeds, Second To None Music has been setting some serious pace across the breadth of 2018. Headed up by founders: Vital Techniques, we see them assemble a mighty host for the first edition their band new 'Head Gone' compilation series, showcasing some of the best in bass music right now. We see inspired appearances from bassline heavyweights such as Deadbeat UK, Brent Kilner, Spectrum, Pavv and more, with particular highlighted flavours coming from man of the minute: Sammy Virji, on his super vibrant roller entitled 'Thunderclap'. Dr Cryptic also makes a stellar appearance on 'Little Roller', with Vital Techniques themselves supplying some skippy heat on 'Wasted'.
Review: As one of the grime and bass scene's standout label projects over the last 5 years, Project Allout have conquered much, constantly alternating between grime, dubstep, bass and garage, all with a real touch of finesse. This latest compilation sees the gang assemble in force as the likes of Sammy Virji, Killjoy, Palize, Deadbeat UK, Daze Prism and more heavyweight names bring their heat to the table. For us the standout tracks have to be Dunman's grimey roller in 'Chip On The Block' and of course Moony's amazonian funky ride out on 'M', a subby mover, designed to take the dance real low.
Review: As a label, Crucast have gone from strength to strength, rapidly establishing themselves as one of the premiere platforms for bass music in the UK. This complication marks that out perfectly with an astonishing selection of over 30 original creations, featuring high profile appearances from the likes of Jaguar Skills, Brent Kilner, Pavv, TC4, Inkline, Deadbeat UK and a tonne more. For us the EP highlights the strength in the current UK bass scene, with favourites being Bushbaby & Hadean's long-awaited collaboration release 'Clean Up', the monstrous swinging synths of Tengu's 'Weapon' and of course the wonky wonderings of SaidWho's 'Voices', a truly original compositional idea, focussing on rawcus bass sounds and scattered drum selections.
Review: It's that time again, as the infamous PAR imprint returns for their yearly Christmas compilation, showcasing their extensively versatile roster and variety of musical styles. This year is a collection of returns and debuts, as we see Killjoy, Deadbeat, Dr Cryptic, KXVU, Moony, Jakebob amongst others all make solid return appearances. Some of our favorites include the haunting sounds of Dallen's grimey roller 'Time', the catchy 4x4 riffs and rhythms of Kind Hydra's 'Bass Trap' and skippy arrangement and aggressive synth design on 'Trigga' from the elusive Rotti. There aren't many labels that can boast such an extensive yet versatile roster and yet remain so assured in as many different areas of UK bass music.
Review: Top talent spotters in the Bass game; Project Allout are back with a new squad of bass-making talent, as well as whole host of established names that project helped to launch to the outer stratospheres in recent years. It's the third edition of their legendary Lengerz series packed with 39 tracks straight from the legion of Lengdom and as we've come to expect from the Steel City boys, they're covering the full gully side of the 125 to 140bpm spectrum; from the eski angst of Arkham's "Jacotanu" the tripped out video game Trap of Creep N00m's "419" to the Pulse X style 808 bass tones of Dubzta's "Energy".... there is even a bit of donk in there via Casement's Young Team. Put it this way, if you are a fan of basslines that make your face look like you're chewing lemons then there is something in hear for you!
Highlights here at Juno HQ include the skaggy chirps on Dead Beat UK's "Baghead VIP", Livsey's TC inspired "Tap Ho" and newcomer Cole slowing the pace but not the intensity with the earth shattering "Mud".
There's a reason why these compilations hang around the top of our charts for years on end, it's because they are jam packed with silly amounts of exclusive A-sides. You don't need to be an Oxbridge educated economist to realise that few labels in the game can boast bang per buck like this!
Review: What an absolute treat from the F2 stable this is! The courageous label has taken it upon itself to keep releasing puristic garage in an era where genres are bbeing blurred like Saturday night cocktails, and it really is a great thing to have someone carrying on the UK's seminal tradition along the hardcore continuum. This is the first volume of their F2 comps, and features a whol load of break-ready, gun-toting individuals wishing to inject some class into modern house. Inside, you'll find some absolute bangers for peeps like Champion, Tuff Culture, Deadbeat - who comes through with some twisted two-step - and Pharaoh K, among the many fresh faces on here. SICK!
Review: The Sheff City boys are back with 12 high calorie teatime treats all smothered in basslines that are thicker than chippy gravy! If Chip Shop vol 1 announced Chip Butty Recs as the new leading light of the 4x4 Garage sound, then volume 2 suggests that they plan to keep the heat on high at the fryery. Founding members deliver the on-point bangers that we have come to expect from them but it is the newcomers that bring the real sizzlers here; Rico Tibbs ascends to the skies with uplifting rave pianos on "Warning" Judge Chucky draws for the distortion on breakbeat-techno-bass hybrid "Customer Service". While Rolls Royce opts for an old school flex that we would love to see revived this summer festival season. Not a single dud spud in the batch!
Review: Much like squashing a fly with a sledgehammer, Sheffield's Project Allout, counter Bristol's bass supremacy with this mammoth compilation. Yes, the second instalment in their eponymous series boasts a frankly absurd 39 new fresh bass cuts. It may take a while to get through it all, but that's half the fun. Inititial highlights include the speedy claps, fizzy hats and taut wobble vibes of "Manners" by 1Thirty, the horror move trap thrills of "Black Missile" by "Familiar Face" and the voluptuous house bass of Mooney's "At The Top".
Review: Second To None Music have chosen the right name for their label. These guys should not be underestimated, and their output is among the best UK bass, garage and funky that we have heard recently. This statement compilation is simply putting them on a lot of people's radars, and getting the to know that absolutely nobody at their HQ is messing around when it comes to relaxing fresh bangers for the UK's dance floors. The music is wild and diverse, ranging from pure bassline to UK funky, and there are certainly plenty of noticeable artists and known faces here, including neb-dancehall specialist Deadbeat, Mikey B, B Squared, and Hypho. If you're into the British way of doing house, then this twist up will surely satisfy.
Review: Sheffield's Project Allout don't mess about, having developed a reputation for championing all directions in the ways of bass. Every take on that three letter word is important to this label and that's why they cram so many hot jams onto their comps. Basically they're the Ferrero Rocher am-bass-adors and they are really spoiling us with 49(!) lengerz. Highlights include AT's bleepy 8-bit hip-hop groove "Flash Bang", the epic, symphonic trap of Dubzta's "Lord Of War" and the almost disco tech grooves of "Murkers' by King Hydra. All killer, no filler!
Review: Bristol's bass supremacy is under threat from Sheffield's formidable Project Allout, who have literally gone all out by rounding up 21 heavyweight jams to prove it. With such heavy ammo who is foolish enough to try and resist? Not us, and if we really had to pick, some of our favourites would be Adam Mac's doomy, empty rainy street vibes on the haunting "Cold Side", the accelerated, pinged up, soulful 4 x 4 banger "Deep" by Deadbeat UK and the percussive dancehall infused synth bass monster, "Likkie Vibez" by Juzlo. The Allout revolution, don't fight it, feel it!
Review: Influx:Audio is a label celebrating the thriving bass scene of their native Yorkshire. One of their shining stars is Pavv (ironically from Brighton) who has made a big splash in the UK bass scene with releases for the likes of U Wot Blud? Here they invite him to reveal his top artists and tunes happening right now and he doesn't disappoint, delivering 10 bleeding edge jams including the space-age UKF of "Things I Do" by Deadbeat UK, the percolating bass gargles of "Nod Ya Head" by Spookz and Pavv's own quirky take on wobble-heavy 4 x 4, "Everyday".
Review: Founded back 2010 by duo Vital techniques, Second To None, was born with the intent to promote 'the sickest...130-140bpm bass' from around the UK. They've certainly done that here, presenting 12 bleeding edge cuts for listening pleasure. Highlights include the linear, up-and-down hoover bass joint "Live My Life" by Deadbeat UK, Mikey B's heavy and eccentric 2-step gem "I Wonder" and Vital Techniques own deep bass workout, "News To Me".
Review: Thirty Three nuggets of serious UKG gullyness; Project Allout have already developed a serious reputation for generous dispatches, but this is whole new level. Uniting their many lengmen for a deep exploration of the pastures between bassline house, instrumental grime and the broader realms of bass music, every area is covered. Highlights include the eski angst of Chemist RNS' "Stare", the violin-snapping, post-dubstep darkness of Deadbeat UK's "Graveyard", the outrageous VIP muscles of Hoax and Dubzta's "Twilight Zone" and the sassy vocal flexery of Pavv's "You Got Me". This is just the tip of the bassline iceberg, though. Dig deep and grab your own lenger; there are enough here for everyone.
Review: An absolute leviathan of a compilation from Project Allout here, and it's just in time for some Christmas cheer from one of the fastest growing UK bass hubs in the game! A tad packed for us to go through it all, but this is guaranteed quality, especially given the fact that the release features plenty of label regulars, new faces and even some pretty incredible cameo appearances from the likes of Caspa, Deadbeat and Dubzta. Each puts in a fine performance, particularly Deadbeat with his "Street Life" cut, a glorious mashup of funky house breaks and wobbled low-end. Be sure to check the licks from Spooky, Mr Dubzta and Tuff Culture, too. Badman vibes and another stunner from Project Allout.
