Review: Throughout his career to date, Allen "Deadboy" Wootton has proved adept at delivering heavyweight, peak-time-friendly cuts that put bustling rhythms and big basslines front and centre. Where this EP for Unknown To The Unknown - his second in total - differs is in its unwavering commitment to mood and melody. Check, for example, "No More", where spacey, delay-laden female vocal samples and glassy-eyed, sunrise-friendly pads slowly stretch out over a snappy, hybrid UK garage/Chicago house groove. Elsewhere, Wootton's new commitment to ear-pleasing musicality is expressed in different ways. There's the lilting pedal steel notes and drifting vocals of 'So Cold", the bustling but deep and spacey thrills of "Silicon", the undulating, Marimba style melodic bliss of "Ryuichi" and the ultra-deep, early '90s ambient house inspired brilliance of closer "Venus and Mars".

Review: DEEMZ is a new four-track EP by UK beat merchant Allen Wooton aka Deadboy, following up great releases on Aus Music, Ten Thousand Yen and New Atlantis. Incorporating techno, house and more, it is one one of his strongest records of late and sees him return to the dancefloor aesthetics of his previous releases. From the jagged, bass-heavy futurism of the title track, the street level tech house shuffle of "R Less" or the splintered industrial beats of "Come Back To The World" the now Montreal based artist further proves that he is a sonic force to be reckoned with.

Review: With a string of releases on Local Talk and Numbers to his credit, Deadboy now makes his debut on Will Saul's label. Combining his raw drums and rhythms with dreamy, bliss-filled chords on the title track, Deadboy has created a new vision for deep house / techno. It makes for a wonderfully evocative sound. There's a similar mood prevalent on "Defrase", where a rickety rhythm and snappy percussion provide the backing for a spell binding, chiming synth line. "Driftmore", with its rolling, linear groove and squelchy bass, is the most conventional composition on this release, but Deadboy imbues it with a soulful undercurrent that ensures it, like the other tracks, stand head and shoulders above other deep house releases.

Review: Up next for Defected's In The House series is the UK's DJ Haus, 'a decidedly untraditional DJ, producer, originator and DIY label innovator.' The Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus Recs boss has received big props from the underground house community and in Defected's opinion: he's an ambassador for the future of house music. Quite a compliment there! Serving up a a wicked collection of raw and jacking sounds that encompass electro, Chicago house, disco, techno and UK garage: and all very much on the lo-fi tip. The supporting cast on DJ Haus In The Haus is quite a remarkable one and musical highlights are not limited to: NYC hero X-Coast (who is fresh off a killer release on Underthesea) with last year's sleeper hit "Mango Bay", Aussie larrikin and Steel City Dance Discs boss Mall Grab with the wicked "Pool Party" through to stateside jams by Justin Cudmore - who gives us a taste of the acid life on "Forget It" and so does the master Matrixxman on the epic "The Spell" (Original Mix).

Review: Deadboy will release his debut album Earth Body. Eight years into a varied career, the UK born, Montreal-based producer has made everything from R&B-sampling club tracks to ambient music since his debut in 2009. According to Local Action his first LP is a pop record inspired by Scott Walker, Sade, Drake and the Beach Boys, "filled with bold choruses and multi-tracked harmonies." The album was written and recorded during a Montreal winter, using his own vocals for a change, rather than using sampled ones on this brazenly pop inflected outing that is a noticeable departure from his previous work.

RU4Me - (3:37) 127 BPM Hot
White Light Gemini - (4:00) 135 BPM
Review: Unknown To The Unknown aren't exactly partial to dropping some utter belters, and this year has seen the label extending its reach by recruiting a truly splendid artillery of artists from the worlds of house, techno and electro. This time, however, it's time for a little bass action and Deadly is the man to do it; the London artist has been a favourite of ours ever since the post-dubstep rise of the 2010's. Here we have two smackers, the first "RU4Me" is a slithering house melter with an early-rise Ibiza kind of setting and a lo-fi percussion stutter, while "White Light Gemini" is a little more UK in nature, taking influences from garage bassline...what Deadly does best. Recommended.

Review: After a string of releases for Numbers, the intermittently active Deadboy makes a welcome return with some plush, emotive tones for Local Action that show him to be in a thoughtful mood, not least on EP opener "White Moon Garden". Cascading, glossy synth lines are the order of the day, with a strong dose of magic and mystery woven in for good measure. "Rye Angel" meanwhile melts Burial-tones down to a hushed murmur and "Sad Sniper" equally calls out a spacious lament peppered with momentary flurries of rhythm. It's "Copwar" that shakes the EP up at the final hurdle with a more energised construction that keeps the synths intact but works a greater sense of urgency into the drum lines.

Return - (3:43)
Des Niles - (4:13) Hot
YYVH - (4:03)
Life Code - (3:26)
Review: UK producer Deadboy will always be synonymous with Jackmaster's Numbers label, having inaugurated it back in 2010 with the one sided If U Want Me 12" back in 2010. It's fair to say Numbers rise since then has been stratospheric, and along the way they managed to coax more killer dancefloor material out of man like Deadboy on a roughly annual basis. The suitably titled Return offers a true display of Deadboy's production palette, with a title track that could feasibly suit a film soundtrack. "Des Niles" meanwhile is reminiscent of the 16bit club stylings of label mate Redinho, while there are further classic Deadboy hybrid dancefloor slayers in the form of "YHVH" and "Life Code".

Ain't Gonna Lie - (6:44)
Review: Excellent release here from Deadboy on Glaswegian imprint Numbers, who returns to the imprint after dropping their first ever 12" in early 2010. The Brighton based producer serves up the epic "Wish U Were Here", which locks into a 4/4 pulse with euphoric Virgo-style synths and a deftly tweaked vocal snippet - solid end of night tackle right here! Up next you'll find "Here 4 U" and "Ain't Gonna Lie", with the former's rolling congas and snare patterns complemented by the latter's syrupy vocals, pinball percussion and straight up garage rhythms. Serious heat once again from the Numbers crew.
