Review: As two of the most popular and versatile producers currently working in and around the realms of UK bass music, it's an absolute pleasure to see two powerhouses in Deekline and Fish team up for a hard hitting creation on Hot Cakes. In all honesty 'Sugar & Spice' isn't what you would particularly expect from either producer, but works so well it's untrue, from the hardcore influenced vocal slices, to the well designed breakbeat sampling and the luscious harmonic structure of the whole piece. Keep an eye out for an unexpected switch up however, as both Deekline and Fish work well to keep us on our toes.
Review: While Winchester's Matterly Bowl still recovers from the mammoth slaying the Jungle Cakes crew gave Boomtown this year, Deekline and his mates continue to fire out the shots. Here we find the bossman teaming up with co-producer Fish and Navi and Blackout on the mic with for a foundation-primed jungle slap about. Big vocal harmonies, sun-kissed skanks and a warm-but-war vibe, it's another tasty Jungle Cakes treat. And it comes with a vibesome remix from jungle royalty Aries. Champion indeed.
Review: Now this most certainly is a treat as we jump into a fiery new compilation and mix project from the Hot Cakes team, who invite the sounds of Lady Waks inside for a feature length exploration into breaks and bass music. It's a truly all star cast for this one as we dive into original creations from the likes of Stanton Warriors, Jay Robinson, Them&Us, Benny Page, Deeklike & Ed Solo, Origin8 & Propa, alongside many many more. Featuring fifty-nine outstanding breakbeat epics alongside a full length studio mix from Lady Waks, this is a perfect showcasing of the breaks and D&B sound in 2021, with highlights including the smooth soundscaping of Firestar Soundsystem's 'Pressure', the intense vocal pressure of 'Trigger' from Phibes and of course the nostalgic drum rolls of 'Boom Baby' from Slip 187 & Rax. Incredible stuff!
