Review: Karaoke Kalk is a record label founded by Thorsten Lutz aka Strobocop in Cologne, 1997. The name comes from the Koln-Kalk district where the label started out. Over the past 15 years, the label has amassed a superb catalog culminating in well over 60 releases by an impressive array of artists and spanning a broad musical spectrum. It's now the debut of J.R. Plankton VS Robert Defcon with some sample based downbeat electronica from Berlin. On "Rausch" they throw down some raw and grinding cosmic business reminiscent of the late nineties 'big beat' sound, while "Oh Babe" is a less serious affair that goes for more of a summery, lo-slung disco vibe. Elsewhere, "Get Up" goes for a deep down and dirty hip-hop/deep funk style joint and "Jealousy" goes for a woozy, balearic tinged chill out vibe.
