Review: Demi Riquisimo has come up with a novel way of celebrating the fifth birthday of his Semi Delicious label: releasing an EP containing previously unreleased tracks he first laid to tape in 2019, the year of the imprint's birth. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the sharp disco strings, throbbing analogue electronics, wavy female vocal samples and snappy drums of 'Tagine Machine', and the acid house-meets-deep house headiness of 'Certified', to the celebratory disco-house-with-8-bit-electronics of 'Blow UFO' and the surging electro-disco-goes-exotic excellence of 'Shameless Progression'. To round things off, the London-based producer drops the analogue-rich, '80s video games-influenced shuffle of 'Point One'.

Review: London-based Detoiter Demi Riquisimo has been responsible for some high-quality music over the last 18 months, most notably a superb two-tracker on Homage and an electro-focused outing on 10 Questions. Divine Reality, the producer's Lost Palms label debut, is equally as striking. Riquisimo sets the tone with the sci-fi seeped title track, where classic Kraftwerk synths, psychedelic acid motifs and shimmering Motor City electronics rise above a crunchy drum machine beat, before exploring disco-fuelled loop jam territory on the unfeasibly funky 'Local Chain'. Arguably best of all though is closing cut 'Green Machine', a joyously camp and driving chunk of late-night Italo-disco rich in mid-'80s synth riffs, intergalactic chords and thrusting electronic bass.

Stride EP
Makossa - (8:24) 123 BPM Hot
Stride - (8:04) 123 BPM
Review: Fast-rising producer Demi Riquisimo - a native of Detroit who now resides in London - comes to Ryan Clover and Fabi Jujo's fledgling NYC-based Homage label with a two-track EP. 'Stride' itself opens with rock-solid 4/4s and tizzy hi-hats, then introduces a burbling bassline which paves the way for sweeping, filter disco-style strings that give the track a surging, energetic feel. 'Makossa', meanwhile, comes on like a fusion between deep house, 90s handbag and Italo-disco, with strings again doing a lot of the heavy lifting but helped out here by a funky-ass guitar line. Contemporary disco-house at its best.
