Review: This is the second instalment of Riddim Fruit's new compilation series, Remix The Version, that see choice cuts from their vaults get reworked by others on their roster. First up is Shimi Sonic's "Hot Peach", which gets tackled by BadPoe resulting in some serious early '90s vibing breaky world-hop. Next up Dephicit's "No Rules" is turned into a killer digital dubby Trap/R&B hybrid.
Review: Fledgling label Funk Fusion have quickly hit the ground running - pushing their nu-funk agenda with joyous abandon. From the Sesame Street vibes of their promo pic, it's clear from the start that this label is all about having fun and their latest mash-up compilation "Fused Funk Vol 02" delivers it big time. There's 12 tough party tracks packed on here including the electro-hip-house of "Get Your Boogie On", the bleepy jump-up funk of "Hold On, I'm Comin" and the smooth retro closer "Danceflaw".
Review: Riddim Fruit return to the source for two stunning remixes of past successes. DJ Alias steps up first with an impassioned take on John Hendicott's 2011 dub homage "Babylon Shall Fall". Swinging with luxurious low end merit and cool organ flourishes, the groove pulsates with instant charm. Further on we find Jayglo at his most meditative and moody with a smoky, late night version of Dephicit's "Duality". Opening with sludgy, trippy tones, we're soon pushed into a treacle-thick bass jam that's not dissimilar to a premium Tipper cut. Quintessential remix vibes.
Review: Riddim Fruit have become synonymous with electro-tinged, neo-dubstep and this latest four-tracker from the one like Dephicit is further proof of the label's militant agenda. "Duality" features Biscuit's vocals and it pounces forth with almighty grit and wobbling grace; Summer Bright appears on "Clef Residue" for one of the nuttiest breaks track we've heard in a long while and "No Rules" goes all rootsy thanks to Missin Red's dutty vocal chants. Lastly, "Peng Dennis" wastes no time in squealing out its incessant bassline - loud and proud and wicked!
