Review: Des McMahon puts most other North American producers to shame with his ability to produce euphoric yet slamming D&B, and it's great to see such talent coming out from across the pond. Back on his regular collaborating partner Viper Recordings, 'Space Candy' is the first of two and accurately hits the nail on the Viper Recordings shaped head with its infectious synth work and ambitious blend of vocal force and low-frequency pushing. 'Cold' is the flip and it makes for a quality B-side that is even more suited for the dancefloor and smacks of previous Viper signing Insideinfo with its pummelling percussive weight and gasping tones. Another good release from Matrix & Futurebound's label.
Review: Not yet a year old, but already Insomniac's new talent championing In / Rotation imprint has already blessed us with 25 releases from across the forefront spectrum. With previous releases ranging from Left / Right's blissed bass "Bloom" to LA Riots' late night slinky techno "House Philosophy", they now go full-on D&B mode with Consouls' cohort Des McMahon who delivers two white knuckle wipe-outs. "Black Widow" funks with a perfectly loosened rattle, an evocative vocal texture and well-tamed bass growls while "Falling Apart" provides more of a tunnelling, big breeze effect with mildly liquified pads and a warm sense of focus. Think late 2000s Hospital but with modern day production muscle. In / Rotation = heavy rotation.
Review: Des McMahon is a bass producer from Philadelphia who is currently setting things ablaze in the US right now. This new autobiographical EP from the self-proclaimed "ginger beat wizard" boasts five original productions that are sure to boost his current ascent even further. "Gringo Juice" is big-room stuff - a chunky moombahton riddim with hysteria-inducing melodies, an absolutely bonkers breakdown and even some cheeky, "Good Life" stabs. Other highlights include the trancier "Albino Ass Slap", the spaced-out dubstep of "Hallucinations" and Rex Riot's unique take on the blissed out "The Come Down".
