Review: Five years on from the release of their debut (and so far only) long-player 'A Cosmic Jazz Funk Adventure', Motor City trio Detroit Rising hand over four of the album's tracks to the great and the good of the broken beat, nu-jazz and deep house scenes for remixing: stand up Jimpster, Kaidi Tatham and Co-Op veteran Evm128. It's Jimpster's remix of 'Rocket Love' that takes the gold for this reviewer thanks to its very Snoop-like rap vocal, but bruk beat lovers will fiend for Tatham and Ewm128's rubs of 'Our World' and 'Gorgeous' (respectively) while Tatham's take on 'Peace & Harmony' should find favour on the jazz-dance floors.

Review: If you missed any of Z Records most potent releases this year, do not fear: boss man Joey Negro has brought together all of the label's best bits on one handy, plus-sized compilation. There's another chance to savour the Escort style Brooklyn disco revivalism of J Kriv and Adeline's "Vertigo", Sean McCabe's smooth and soulful rework of Detroit Rising and Ron Trent's impeccably musically rich remix of Joey Negro's "Distorting Space Time". Synth-fired boogie goodness is also provided via a superb "Unreleased Dub" of Janet Kay's 1980s gem "Eternally Grateful" and a brilliant Joey Negro rework of the APX, while soaring, string-laden disco hits are dotted throughout the compilation. If you dig disco, house and boogie, you need this in your life.

Review: For the uninitiated, Detroit Rising is a fluid collective of leading jazz and funk musicians from the Motor City, including former members of P-funk legends Parliament/Funkadelic. Here, "Little Bit", one of the highlights from the band's latest album, A Cosmic Jazz-Funk Adventure, is given a club makeover by Z Records regular Sean McCabe. As you'd expect, the Bristol-based Welshman's main "Remix" is a simmering soulful house delight, with superb new instrumentation complimenting Detroit Rising's on-point original parts. The "Dub" is slightly breezier and sunnier interpretation, while the "Moody Mix" doffs a cap to the soulful deep house electronics of long serving British deep house producer Atjazz.
