Review: The quality and consistency of the Four40 release schedule over the last couple of years has been near enough unrivalled, especially when it comes to their incredible line of UKG drops. Next up from them we explore some of the best bits of that run. Just looking at the artists involved is enough to get any selector salivating as we see fantastic inclusions from Deadly Habitz, Patrick Kane, Kells, Yemi, Burt Cope, Vital Techniques and so many more. There are a couple on here that have really stood the test of time in our eyes, including the Hybrid Theory remix of Blakk Habit's 'Like You', which has been causing damage in the dances ever since the raves began to reopen. We would also include Joe Burger & Dread MC's wicked collab 'Vibe' in that list of top tier inclusions, alongside George IV's 'Gettin' Your Love' and of course 'Faithful' from BWK Project. More power to the Four40 crew, who continue to impress at every turn.

Development feat Tuff Culture
Review: As a solidified bass music imprint, there's nothing more important than making a good start to the new year. Its safe to say that the responsibility was left in more than capable hands as Development team up with Tuff Culture for a weighty three tracker entitled "Time Away". The collaboration occurs on "Harmony" which is a straight 4x4 skanker, demonstrating very original bass synthesis and crisp drum processing blended with well sampled vocal sprinklings. Following this "Time" is a futuristic 2-step anthem, utilising creative vocal processing over skippy drum arrangements. The EP is then rounded up perfectly with "Away" which combines the themes of both previous, but repackages them for the dance with a classic UK bass breakdown. Fantastic stuff all around on this one!

Review: Before delivering the promised 'arsenal of dutty new tunes for all you functioning bass addicts' next year, fledging bass label Saucy round up this one with a selection of all their best stuff from their sophomore year. There are a whopping 24 tracks to get your teeth into, highlights of which include the insanely catchy moody pop of opener "Summer Rain" by Inkline, the slamming garage/house of "Don't Stop (Jack Swaffer remix)" by Mike Jones and the eccentric beats and creeped out sounds of the "House Of Haunted Horrors" by Spooky and Spekktrum. What a label, what a year!

Review: Occupational therapy: Birmingham badman developMENT delivers two gully strutters for the bass house cognoscenti. "My Occupation" ignites with a dizzying blend of musical references before leaning back on classic garage keys and eventually leaping forward with his trademark sludgy low end riffage. "Dem Boy Sound" eschews the silky keys for a much darker romp that's dented with MC samples. Heavyweight.

From Regality's deep Chicago inspired chugger "Celebrate" to Morcee's subtle speed garage swag "It's You", Hybrid Theory's atonal bass grunts and happy slap snares on "Mind Games" and Tom Shorterz subverted soul on "Wot U Do", Four40 cover all bass bases and provide an opportunity to fill any holes in your collection. Apart from releasing singles from a top selection of international talent, they've also treated their audience to a few mini-compilations too. Here, they go for the big one: a full-blown collection to celebrate their first birthday. There are 20 tracks to chosen from, highlights include the deep string-led house of "Murder (Skapes mix)" by SPX, the otherworldly laser-bass attack of "Renegade Horns" by Libra and the haunted bass-step of Distro's remix of Pelikann's "Hear Me".

Review: UK operation Saucy Record return with a swiftly compiled second volume of Saucy Selections featuring a healthy 17 cuts of Tech, Bass, House and Garage from the international community. Label regulars like Libra (UK), Melod!k, and Spekktrum brush up against Saucy newcomers and there's a pleasant array of styles and sounds to be found within this selection, moving from sultry cuts such as opener "Had Enough" by Chris Skapetis to tougher and rougher bassline movers. Grande's "NOS" playfully toys around the Club Constructions approach to dancefloor tools, whilst Spekktrum is on aggro form with compilation highlight "The Game".

Review: Big, booty-shaking bass squelches that seem to seep out the walls and crisp, retro claps announce the arrival of this year's hottest house party-starter. Jacking and jerking with the arrogant strut of Birmingham's bright new stars, this release is gritty and filthy enough to satisfy the most underground of dance addicts, while keeping a severe line when it comes to on-point dancefloor etiquette for those with more clean-cut style. The even more stylish "Drop That Ass" with its perforating dancehall beat and mercenary-dark synths turn nightmarish atmosphere into something well worth staying until closing time for.
