Bolivian Sunrise
Bolivian Sunrise - (5:48) 130 BPM Hot
Beleza - (5:42) 124 BPM
Review: Aussie larrikins Andrew Stanley and Matthew Handley aka Yolanda Be Cool, known for their 2010 smash hit "We No Speak Americano" team up with Los Angeleno Dillon Nathaniel here on Lee Foss' Repopulate Mars label for some bass-driven tech house that's aimed squarely at the peak time dancefloor. The result is the latin infused groove of "Bolivian Sunrise", while equally set on the White Isle party season is the punchy, funky attitude of "Beleza" up next. This is not the first time the three of them have teamed up; some of you may remember last year's controversial "Tell Me Why" on Club Sweat.

Review: The guys at Nightbass have had truly sensational year, with top quality releases flowing out of the camp left, right and centre. As a label, AC Slater's outfit has developed into one of the most forward thinking projects currently rolling out across the bass music expanse and this compilation showcases just how far they have moved forward. The tracklisting contains a monstrous host, featuring the likes of Flava D, Shift K3y, Jack Beats, Cause & Affect and many more heavy hitters. For us the immediate standouts have to come from Jay Robinson firstly, who's acidic roller 'The Return' hits home heavily, alongside Phlegmatic Dogs, who's classic 'Cuatrocats' adds major weight to the selection. Awesome stuff and a top quality signout.

Review: The rampage of the Night Bass collective shows no sign of slowing any time soon as they roll out another top draw compilation, this one consisting of six heaters under the name of 'Summer Phrases 2018'. Taiki Nulight and Hadean kick off proceedings with their tearout roller in 'No Attention', with 219 Boys following up on some sublow flavours in 'Hooked Up'. Codes then provides some techy tastings on 'Brand New Drop' before Bijou teams up with Davonyea Marcel for the experimental stylings of 'On Read'. Sinden & Dillon Nathaniel finish up the EP in style with their explosive outings on 'Swervin In A Lex' and 'Can't See Me'. Another top draw outing for the Night Bass camp.

Dillon Nathaniel - "Like The Groove" - (4:30) 124 BPM
219 Boys - "House Down" - (6:10) 125 BPM
Review: LA's Night Bass imprint is contributing significantly to the US' newfound love for dance music that takes low frequencies to new extremes. As such, the label have opted to launch the fifth instalment of the This Is Night Bass series and, as you'd expect there's all sorts of bangers ready-made for dancehall gun-slinging in here! Tagged as bass doesn't do it justice though; Volac's opening "Wait A Minute" is basically a house tune that meets Drake-like r&b vocals, with the same going for Bijou's and Sinden's own 4/4, bass-filtered killers. Petey Click's "U NO I" takes the electro house framework to new and bruising levels, whereas Astronomar manages to strip it back down to tech-house territories on "100 MPH". Jay Robsinson, Dillon Nathanie and the 219 Boys are all the same wave-length, which is impressive given the fact that each one of these artists caters to a particularly niche shade of nu-school house. SUMMER ANTHEMS ABOUND.

Fresh Squeezed
Fresh Squeezed - (6:20) 123 BPM
Flex The Frequency - (6:07) 123 BPM
Body Like - (5:48) 123 BPM Hot
Going Up - (6:07) 122 BPM
Review: Dillon Nathaniel refers to himself as a 'manipulator of frequencies'. As this release for AC Slater's label demonstrates, it's not a bad description of his music. The title track fuses glitchy undercurrents with a throbbing bass and rolling snares, while on "Flex the Frequency" the LA -based producer moves in a similar direction, using powerful bass tones. "Body Like" is not quite as forceful, and sees Nathaniel add some sweeping chords and high-pitched vocal samples to his sound. However, this release is all about his manipulation of the low end - and on "Going Up" a throbbing bass provides the backing for chopped up vocals.

SubSoul & Friends, Vol 2
Sly-One & Kattison - "High On You" - (3:37) 128 BPM
Dillon Nathaniel - "Cymatic" - (3:46) 124 BPM
Kideko & Apres - "Get The Funk" - (3:34) 124 BPM
ARLE - "Close To You" (Icarus edit) - (3:30) 123 BPM Hot
Review: SubSoul began life as a YouTube channel before embracing the more traditional route of being an actual record label. Now they've decided to follow-up their 2014 comp SubSoul & Friends with a second volume. This time we have four new cuts starting with Sly One & Kattison's retro diva house anthem, "High On You", things get deeper and nastier on Dillon Nathaniel's "Cymatic", whilst Kideko & Apres "Get The Funk" is all about the big snare rolls and electro-house bounce. Lastly ARLE's "Close To You (Icarus edit)" is the perfect hands in the air festival sing-a-long.

Review: AC Slater's Los Angeles-based Night Bass label has been turning the US on its head what with all the real UK bass flavours they've been serving up. They've now made it to the fourth instalment of the mighty This Is Night Bass series, and once again it's sizzling with energy. There are eight tracks this time including the heavy stomp of Aussie Yolanda Be Cool & Wongo's "Roosevelt", Sinden's gloriously dark "God" and the deep jackin' grooves of Bijou's "Cant' See Us". Night Bass then, bringing quality to the masses.

Review: U.S. imprint based out of Dallas, Audiophile XXL, has been unstoppable over the last year with a continuous onslaught of up and coming North American producers and their take on tech house, electro house and west coast bass sounds. This compilation showcases the labels current array of talent with eighteen tracks certainly guaranteed to destroy a dancefloor near you. Highlights include Los Angeleno Dillon Nathaniel's "Transcend" a bass heavy cut for late night parties on Hollywood Boulevard and sure to get some gun fingers in the air. Oregon's Aaron Jackson appears with "Get Some Jungle In Ya Jungle" which has some totally absurd vocoder and beat repeat action and rising British producer James Mannion: whose grime infused jam "BS7" is proper UK street sound.

Aristocrat - (4:59) 123 BPM
Review: Orange County's Dillon Nathaniel is back on Audiophile XXL. "Bang To This" is a reliable tech house DJ tool with functionality to cross over into other sub genres easily; that bassline... and that breakdown, wow! "Play This Record" sets the record straight on this jackin' electro house jam; yet another monster bassline on show. Finally "Aristocrat" gets on the more minimal tip and his is best offering here, borrowing equally from dub techno and electro house on this unholy mixture that works well; one for the after-hour party!

Man Loves Machine - "Jakt" - (6:12) 125 BPM
Feature Cuts - "Sheryl Swoopes" - (4:53) 125 BPM
Review: XXL is a spin off-label from EDM operation Audiophile Live and has audibly been set up to tap into minimal house. The sound that emerges on Doble XX is far more mainstream than anything one might expect to find on say Perlon, but that doesn't stop some of its contributors from offering fresh interpretations on this well-worn sound. For example, Freefall & M3RC's "The Underground" sees snares crash and pitch-bent vocals flung into the equation, while Callie Reiff & C & T's "Like Dis" is an ever-morphing swathe of bass frequencies. Best of all though are the deeper moments, with the hypnotic filters and rolling groove of ADMN Feat Kid Enigma's "Hold It Down" impressing most.

The Works - (6:09) 122 BPM Hot
Fight The Power - (4:10) 124 BPM
Super Soaker - (4:41) 124 BPM
Review: Dallas, Texas' Audiophile XXL follows up a great release by Aaron Jackson last month with a new one by Orange County duo Dillon Nathaniel and Dateless with' The Works EP. First track "On The Flow" is deep and dirty, early evening electro house for freaks with its catchy "get your ass on the floor" vocal refrain really setting the vibe. Next up "The Works" gets much more intense with its massive bassline and razor sharp synth lead working in unison towards pure dancefloor euphoria. "Fight The Power" gets back on the deep electro house tip with Public Enemy samples used intermittently on top of a deep groove and seriously wonky bass. Finally "Super Soaker" is dirty and nasty and should only be allowed for the afterhours with its dark strings and grimy bass with druggy pitch shifted vocals "my bass is like a super soaker, you know what I mean?"
