Review: Damian Lazarus unfurls the latest edition of Crosstown Rebels 'SPIRITS' compilation series, once again serving up a varied and interesting collection of cuts from a blend of rising stars and established producers. In the latter camp you'll find UK scene stalwart Dino Lenny, who impresses with the driving, ever-building dub disco darkness of 'I Have Sampled Father', and the surprise hook up between Timo Maas and Inamo on the deep, shuffling and creepy tech-house headiness of 'le Tourbillion'. Some of the finest material is provided by the lesser-celebrated artists involved, with Share's deliciously bass-heavy and percussive 'Oh Please (feat Def Ef)', John Monkman's atmospheric 'Colours' anad Enamour's warming and gently dreamy 'Jackpot' standing out.

Review: Following on from its release a few months ago, R&S has commissioned two fresh new remixes of "Lose Control". Vince Watson's interpretation revolves around a rolling groove and free-flowing piano keys. Layering moody vocals over this backing, it makes for a perfect fusion of deep house and Detroit techno influences. Veteran producer Jon Kennedy opts for a markedly different approach on his remix. Subtle double bass and shuffling break beats are fused with woozy chords and a more considered version of the vocals. The release also includes "Washington Street 4am Mix", where Lenny seamless melds jazzy saxophones with a pulsating, throbbing groove.

Turning in a title track a two alternative mixes here, Lenny intertwines a choppy piano motif with a classic house groove in the original, slicing vocal elements into rhythmic patterns reminiscent of Yello's signature style. The Dis Konnekted Mix delivers a raw, minimalistic vibe with rave stabs and rolling toms, perfect for an intense club experience, while the Tea With Quincy Mix features the legendary horn playing of Jerry Hey, known for his work with iconic artists like Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire!

Review: Following his Did This release earlier this year, veteran producer Dino Lenny returns to R&S. Washington Street may not be typical for the label's sound, but at its heart is a lithe techno groove. Led by niggling hi hats, subtle snare rolls and a pulsating bass, it's all about the piano keys that flow and build in a celebratory fashion. Like a contemporary take on 90s Italian house, the title track is sure to have widespread appeal. In anticipation of its audience, the release also features a truncated radio edit - don't be surprised to hear this version on daytime radio.

ANNA kicks off proceedings with the mesmerising dance floor drama of "Cosmovision" feat. Ravid, label staple Colyn takes you deep into the aether on the melodic bliss of "Unstable Gravity Alert" and esteemed German producer Recondite takes you on a descent further down the spiral on the brooding "Runner". Review: Maceo Plex's Ellum label has showcased some of underground house and techno's most respected names in recent years - and this compilation is no exception. Italian house legend Dino Lenny delivers a wonderfully evocative, bass-heavy cut on "Let Me In", while Fedele from Agents of Time flies solo for the twitchy, electronic groove of "Riot Disco" and Christian Nielsen follows a similar path for "Glitch Itch". Meanwhile, North Lake, who released on the label back in 2017, goes deeper for the dubbed out "Imperial Heights", and Borne Aloft delves into bleep-heavy space techno on the tracky but discordant sounding "Primal Urge".

Review: For those inspired by Diynamic Music's trademark brand of European tech-house/deep house fusion, the label's semi-regular "Four To The Floor" EPs are essential listening. Predictably, the latest volume - the 15th in total - is packed to the rafters with high-grade fare. Veteran producer Dino Lenny kicks things off with the arpeggio-driven dark room thrills of "I Lost Appetite" - all electronic bleeps, doom-laden chords and rolling drums - before Doctor Dru offers up the similarly pulsating, trance-inducing heaviness of "Kloeppel". The Organism's "Roast" is a fuzzy and forthright chunk of vaguely panicked electro-house, while Budakid's "1991" wraps moody chords and rushing lead lines around a snappy but tactile rhythm track.

Review: It's been twenty years since Sven Vath's Cocoon operation set up in Ibiza; since then the label's annual alphabet-themed compilations have also come to define techno's stylistic twists and turns. According to S, 2019 clearly saw the re-emergence of trance in its various forms, from Love Over Entropy's wide-eyed abandon to Stimming's more musical approach - audible on "The Gift That Never Stops To Give". Musicality is also a common theme on the house and techno that features on Compilation S, with Emanuel Satie's "Planet XXX" resounding to melodic chord stabs and Giegling artist Edward's "End Days" favouring chattering samples and a soaring bass - inspired by E-Dancer with a modern, Teutonic twist.
