Review: Dino Lenny makes his way back to R&S Records, following a stories career - and his debut label release Did This - with 2024's Lose Control. Turning in a title track a two alternative mixes here, Lenny intertwines a choppy piano motif with a classic house groove in the original, slicing vocal elements into rhythmic patterns reminiscent of Yello's signature style. The Dis Konnekted Mix delivers a raw, minimalistic vibe with rave stabs and rolling toms, perfect for an intense club experience, while the Tea With Quincy Mix features the legendary horn playing of Jerry Hey, known for his work with iconic artists like Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire!

Washington Street (radio edit) - (3:56) 130 BPM
Review: Following his Did This release earlier this year, veteran producer Dino Lenny returns to R&S. Washington Street may not be typical for the label's sound, but at its heart is a lithe techno groove. Led by niggling hi hats, subtle snare rolls and a pulsating bass, it's all about the piano keys that flow and build in a celebratory fashion. Like a contemporary take on 90s Italian house, the title track is sure to have widespread appeal. In anticipation of its audience, the release also features a truncated radio edit - don't be surprised to hear this version on daytime radio.

Review: Tale Of Us curates the next volume of their epic compilation series Unity, featuring contributions from a cast of talent located all over the world. Part 3 maintains the same premise as the previous installments, gathering together a massive collection of 39 tracks designed to transport you into another realm. ANNA kicks off proceedings with the mesmerising dance floor drama of "Cosmovision" feat. Ravid, label staple Colyn takes you deep into the aether on the melodic bliss of "Unstable Gravity Alert" and esteemed German producer Recondite takes you on a descent further down the spiral on the brooding "Runner". Elsewhere, representing the new school, the ascendant Kevin de Vries nails that perfect main room techno sound on the epic "Biohazard", as does Innealea with the slinky and hypnotic "Targo", while scene veterans Argy and Dino Lenny represent their vintage with some equally impressive contributions in the form of "Mental Powers" and "Breathe" respectively.

Review: Maceo Plex's Ellum label has showcased some of underground house and techno's most respected names in recent years - and this compilation is no exception. Italian house legend Dino Lenny delivers a wonderfully evocative, bass-heavy cut on "Let Me In", while Fedele from Agents of Time flies solo for the twitchy, electronic groove of "Riot Disco" and Christian Nielsen follows a similar path for "Glitch Itch". Meanwhile, North Lake, who released on the label back in 2017, goes deeper for the dubbed out "Imperial Heights", and Borne Aloft delves into bleep-heavy space techno on the tracky but discordant sounding "Primal Urge".

Review: It's been twenty years since Sven Vath's Cocoon operation set up in Ibiza; since then the label's annual alphabet-themed compilations have also come to define techno's stylistic twists and turns. According to S, 2019 clearly saw the re-emergence of trance in its various forms, from Love Over Entropy's wide-eyed abandon to Stimming's more musical approach - audible on "The Gift That Never Stops To Give". Musicality is also a common theme on the house and techno that features on Compilation S, with Emanuel Satie's "Planet XXX" resounding to melodic chord stabs and Giegling artist Edward's "End Days" favouring chattering samples and a soaring bass - inspired by E-Dancer with a modern, Teutonic twist.

Techno Is Dead
Techno Is Dead - (8:02) 122 BPM Hot
Go Down To Mexico - (8:47) 118 BPM
Review: Italian legend Dino Lenny follows up a terrific reissue of his early noughties hit "I Feel Stereo" on Yoshitoshi, in addition to a bunch of great releases on Ellum Audio, Play It Say It and Sapiens with the powerful tunnel vision of "Techno Is Dead". It's a seething groove coming right at you from the factory floor, with its po-faced lyrics preaching the current state of things. It's a much hi-tech and hypnotic affair on "Trip Down to Mexico" with a superb use of melody and mesmerising polyrhythms throughout - its quite reminiscent of his recent effort on Berlin powerhouse Innervisions actually. More great work from a true master of house and techno, who after nearly 30 years on the scene is still right at the top his game!

Review: It's over to Italian legend Dino Lenny next on the revered Yoshitoshi imprint - but let's be clear - this one came out on the label back in 2001, but it still sounds as fresh as ever. This guy's career has spanned nearly three decades (over a dozen alises) so you're in good hands with this undisputed A.M. specialist here. His latest work is just as impressive. For this remix package celebrating the 17 year anniversary of the anthem, they've called in all the top guns. ViVa head honcho Steve Lawler no doubt rinsed the prog house weapon during his many visits to New York City back in the day, where he soaked up the tribal house sound before taking it to the UK. This modern rework will bring the sound a much needed comeback for the new generation. Elsewhere, Tel Aviv based indie-dance darlings Rwd Axes make a surprise appearance, but their impressive take retains all the tribal qualities in impressive fashion - even taking it into more into tunnelling and hypnotic territory.

Review: Ten years of tech house powerhouse Exploited's exploits - pardon the pun! A born and bred Berliner, Shir Khan started the label in his home city in 2007. The imprint now plays host to a who's who in the current tech-house climate - including Adana Twins, Doctor Dru, Claptone, Joyce Muniz, Urulu and Cocolores to name a few. Its artists have been receiving full support from tastemakers such as Pete Tong, Soul Clap, Wolf & Lamb and Kraak & Smaak. All the usual suspects appear here: many golden oldies and even some newbie surprises too - perfect for the Christmas season and to forecast trends moving forward into 2018. To prove their relevance, they've served up a whopper of a compilation: over five dozen tracks showcasing their illustrious discography. We are certain that these are timeless grooves and will prove to be just as relevant another decade.

Some of these go as far back as 2009! Take for instance Malente & Dex feat. Analogik's "Gipsy Kings" which homed in that whole loopy latin house trend - popularised by similar tunes like "We No Speak Americano". Swedish electro house dons Zoo Brazil appear as well, with their 2012 dancefloor hit "Rock The House", then get deep and slinky with Moodymanc's 2013 sleeper hit "Joy" (Ralph Lawson Dub). They were even doing jazzy/dusty deep house as far back as 2011, like on Homework's "Whipped Cream". Remember Serge Santiago's remix of Murphy Jax's "Let's Get To It" featuring the inimitable Mike Dunn? It's here!

But when best describing the label's success thus far, we'd have to give honorable mentions to the true staples of the label. The legendary Chicagoan James Curd (formerly one half of the Greenskeepers) has kept on going from his new home of Adelaide, Australia and served up some of his best work in years. The emotive and bittersweet "Forever My Friend" is just one example. Likewise, Belgium's Compuphonic appears several times also - his recent hit from earlier this year "Metropolis" appears in all its soulful and evocative glory. Here's to another 10 guys, cheers!

Review: Last time we heard from long serving Italian house producer Dino Lenny, he was collaborating with Doorly on Play It Say It. This time he's on a solo mission, though he has roped in some particularly high profile friends to provide remixes. "Shoot Me To The Sky" is an exercise in atmospheric, tech-tinged dancefloor bliss, with rising synthesizer arpeggio lines, stuttering drum fills and moody bass combining to get things moving. Maceo Plex provides a deliciuously filthy, driving, bass-heavy interpretation that's arguably best described as "mind altering", while Tape layers up the Balearic synth lines before unleashing a slamming, bass-heavy groove. Also worth checking is Agoria's pleasingly hazy, deep and Balearic interpretation of vocal cut "This Time We Take It Easy".

The Magic Room (Doorly Re Chunk mix) - (8:11) 120 BPM
Review: It would be fair to refer to Dino Lenny as a "veteran": the Italian producer has been churning out dancefloor hits since the dawn of the '90s. This release sees him join forces with Cajual and Hot Creations regular Doorly for a loving tribute to the joys of club culture. The action centres on a meandering, largely spoken vocal describing a mesmerizing late night dancing experience in "The Magic Room". On the lead version - a tasty re-edit by Lenny and Seth Troxler - this is accompanied by "Lazy" style pianos, and a chunky, disco-tinged house groove. The low-slung guitars and bass are pushed to the fore on Doorly's energy-packed remix, while Luke Solomon doffs a cap to the jazz-flecked boompty sounds of Chicago on his busy rework.

Review: Buffalo Boots, Britpop, Alcopops and Chris Evans; the '90s were a mixed bag indeed. One thing that the final decade of the 20th century did do well was dance music and here we get a selection of 36 more underground tracks from that time. Highlights include the sizzling nu-NRG of "To The Rhythm" by Divine Dance Experience, the bizarre, randy trance of "I'm A Sex Maniac" by Dick, the stabby vogue jam "Cauz I'm Learn" by Old Skool and the deep early Red Zone (aka David Morales) remix of System 3 Request "Desafinado".
