Review: Just occasionally, something lands in the release pile that makes yours truly just wanna type "oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh" over and over again. Can't do that, though, or Juno would politely inform me that my reviewing services were no longer required. So instead: think back to some of your favourite sumptuous, late night Jersey garage cuts of the 90s - tracks from the likes of Tommy Musto, Hayden Andre or Victor Simonelli that were so deep and sexy you could swim in them. Now imagine them given 21st Century production values and issued on Igor Gonya's impeccable Sundries Digital, and there you go! Outstanding.

Review: For their 100th release, Hot Digits bring us a truly outstanding collection that gathers together the best of the label's last 50 outings. Just one look at the talent roster involved should be enough to get any contemporary disco lover's tastebuds tingling, replete as it is with names like Fingerman, Dexter Jones, Fray Bentos, C Da Afro, Dave Mathmos and Jet Boot Jack, and suffice to say the music they provide doesn't disappoint one iota! With 30 full-length cuts plus two hour-long DJ mixes there's no room here to go into every track, but whether you like it deep n' chuggy, funky n' furious or boogie-tastic n' soul-tinged, you'll find plenty of fresh ammo for your disco machine gun here.

Review: Mexican producer Franco Alvarez AKA Disco Feelings has a long string of releases on Spa In Disco to his name; his work has also cropped up on Hot Digits Music and now he comes to Rayko's Rare Wiri with this very solid little two-tracker. 'French Nights', it won't surprise anyone to learn, essentially pays homage to the French touch/filter disco sound of the late 90s/early 00s (albeit with an atypical sampled, spoken vocal) and is plenty playable for sure, but the standout by far here is 'Long Time', which features some mighty fine jaunty, jazzy piano licks. It's groovy, baby...

Review: If this writer's Juno inbox is anything to go by then, as of early 2021 there's a lot of very 80s-inspired disco around right now: boogie, Italo, cosmic and EBM/New Beat-inspired tracks are ten-a-penny, while authentically 70s-sounding homages/pastiches are a tad thinner on the ground. If your tastes do lean a little more towards the 'traditional', though, then check out this three-tracker from Mexico's Disco Feelings: 'Disco Dreams' recalls late 70s Roxy Music while the lightly Afro-tinged 'Leke Disco' comes on like a lost Loft classic, leaving only 'Leke Love' to nod to the boogie era.

Review: Two very serviceable disco cuts make up this latest EP from Mexican producer Disco Feelings, AKA Franco Alvarez, which comes on Rayko's Rare Wiri imprint. Whether these are original productions or re-edits isn't entirely clear - Alvarez has been known to do both - but 'Dance With Me' places a sultry, spoken female "I can't escape you... this is fire" vocal atop a chugging disco backdrop with a late 70s/early 80s feel, while the sunny, rolling near-instrumental groove that is 'Good As Gold' has a more mid-70s vibe. Both will keep disco floors moving without a doubt, with the fromage factor thankfully kept to a minimum.

Review: Nine highly enjoyable slices of contemporary funk and disco here courtesy of Fran Deeper's Mallorca-based Spa In Disco. Some of the artists are well-known, at least in the appropriate circles (C Da Afro, Funk District, Monsieur Van Pratt); some are less so, while there's one genuine first-gen survivor in the form of Spiteri, a legendary Venezuelan player who gave London's 70s disco scene a dose of Latin flava. Don't expect too much in the way of radical reinvention - these grooves are so faithful to the sounds of the 70s that we had to check a few of 'em weren't actually 40 years old! - but the standard throughout is impeccable.
