Review: The third volume in Tasty Recordings' ongoing "It's So Disco" compilation series more than lives up to its title, serving up a sizzling selection of bold, party-hearty dancefloor workouts rich in funk-fuelled disco samples. There's nothing here that could be described as "disco" in the purist sense, just fun and occasionally furiously fast club cuts that are guaranteed to set dancefloors alight. Our picks include the rushing, full throttle '80s disco-meets-disco-house insanity of Jack Le Funk's "Funk Off", the pitched-up, funk-fuelled disco-house stomp of Serial Thrilla's "Everybody Dance", the slap bass-propelled mid-tempo bump of Boogie Freaks' "Bring The Old School Back" and the mash-up brilliance of Discotron's "Doin' Their Own Thing", which somehow manages to join the dots between Coldcut's "People Hold On", original disco, '80s electro and disco-house.

Review: Prolific party starter Discotron returms with his eleventh solo EP of the year, a four-track missive that's packed to the rafters with disco-sampling house treats. The headline attraction is undoubtedly "Cut The Music", a filter-sporting peak-time roller whose sweet disco orchestration and vocal samples just grow in intensity as the track progresses. It comes accompanied by "Give It All You Got", a gently bobbing and weaving slow disco-house jam (with added Q-Tip vocal samples) of the sort we've come to expect from LTJ Experience. To complete a rock solid package, Discotron has included chunkier, vocal-free dub mixes of both tracks.

Gotta Go Disco EP
I Gotta Go (original mix) - (5:57) 114 BPM Hot
Let The Track Ride (original mix) - (5:21) 106 BPM
I Gotta Go (dub mix) - (5:57) 114 BPM
Let The Track Ride (dub mix) - (5:21) 106 BPM
Review: The shady Discotron has been cavorting in public for seven years now without anyone managing to suss his or her identity. This latest taunting missive sees the producer hold back from the super cheesy edits of late, instead concentrating on streamlined disco for cooler dancefloors. "I Gotta Go" is a funky gem with a laid back groove, clavinets and strings...and some rapping on top for good measure. "Let The Track Ride" is the real star, a hazy and loose boogie loop with plenty of filter and delay. Also included are dub versions of both, recommended if the novelty of the MC'ing wears off.

Review: Discotron's moniker conjures up images of neon-lit androgynes smooching to pulsating, electronic disco. The reality, however, has more in common with the wedding reception approach of say, N-Trance and their 1995 smash, Stayin Alive. Here on My Nu Joint EP, he takes the formula forward by sampling Sister Sledge masterpiece My Forbidden Lover, looping it, coating it swirly swishes and hip-hop 'ughs'. "Ghetto Funk" meanwhile merges a Salsoul style groove with some (Q-Tip?) rapping. Sneer all you like but when these drop at your reception and there's pure delirium on the dancefloor, who's laughing last eh?

Intro EP
Stand Up - (4:37) 128 BPM Hot
Get Up & Boogie - (5:52) 128 BPM
Review: Rising electro star Alex Metric, who recently joined the BBC's In New DJs We Trust team and delivered a storming mix of Gorillaz' "Stylo", releases these two storming tunes under his Discotron alias. "Stand Up" is a beefed up disco edit and similar in vibe to Duck Sauce's recent smash Anyway. Putting huge beats and filters under quality disco never goes out of fashion, and "Stand Up" is a huge, soulful anthem in the making.Same goes for "Get Up & Boogie", which samples Silver Connection's tune of the same name with devastating effect. The perfect balance between the soul of disco and the speaker-busting power of electro, these two tunes come highly recommended.
