Review: Distinct Motive meeting the crew at Deep Dark & Dangerous is many a dubstep fanatic's dream, with this exuberant four track slam being another crazy combination of futuristic steppers energy. First up, the warbling subs and minimal drum structures of 'Blueberry' kick us off in style, linking together squelching synth bites and steadily oscillating subs for a very unique arrangement. Next, 'Bold' takes a gritter approach with more gnarly sound design taking the lead role, followed by the siren-like chord progressions and scatty bass sweeps of 'Biters'. Finally, the title track 'Niagara' slows the pace right down and dives into a much more dungeon-sentric sound, utilising eerie chords and steadily shuffling drums for a face-melting finale.

Review: Following on from the major success of its first edition, the DUPLOC team have unveiled the second '140 ALLSTARS' V/A collection, welcoming six more names on board for a dazzling display of dubstep-infused heat. We open up with the sweeping woodwind lines and shuffling drums of 'Tecc' from Sedan, before Ourman unleashes the gnarly melodic grinds and haunting percussive pops of 'Sp00ns', but this time, it's a VIP mix. Next up, Beatsforbeaches arrives with a real dazzler as 'Me Nah' gives us a glitchy yet impactful backdrop, followed by both the synthetic squelches of Distinct Motive's 'Champ' and the super creative rhythmic expressions of 'CRTCL DMG' from Senncoria. Finally, Teffa does what Teffa does best, by unveiling an aquatic masterpiece in 'Cosmos', driven by crunchy bass design and unique percussive influxes, rounding off another successful V/A for the DUPLOC team.

Review: Despite their relatively short time within the spectrum of releasing new music, The Sub Merchants have unveiled an absolute corker with this latest 'Ridley Road' compilation. The project showcases some of the freshest sounds in 140, kicking off with Distinct Motive delivering a warbling robotic display in 'WY', followed by Hella & Logan linking up for the dungeon-ready arrangements of 'Chattings'. Fearless Dread then arrives with some fungal flavour with the dingey subs of 'Sucker Punch', before the weighty basslines and minimal percussive arrangements of Distinct Motive return on 'Therapy'. The pace refuses to slow as Hella delivers a percussive overload on 'Low Rider', followed by the breaks infused twists and powerful low ended maneuvers of 'Light Em', seeing Fearless Dread arriving for his second outing. We then move into three corking remix additions, with Oxossi giving a more dubwise twist to 'WY', Logan_olm treating 'Chattings' to a skippy refurb and Mincy giving 'Light Em' a ferocious roller of an overhaul. Amazing work from all involved!

Review: 2020 is looking to be a very exciting year for the dubstep scene, as we will continue to see labels such as Navy Cut continue to rise to prominence, if last year is anything to go by anyway! This time around they invite in the unique production techniques of Distinct Motive for a wicked two track piece, kicking off with the haunted atmospheric layerings and unique bass structures of the title track 'Hamburg'. On the flip side. 'Haste' provides us with some high energy marching drum structures, alongside sweeping subs and subwise delay effects to add some serious contrast to the A-side. Tasty!

Review: We are always excited to see a new release from the Deep Dark & Dangerous camp hit the shelves, and their latest offering most certainly doesn't let us down as we embrace the forward thinking sounds of Distinct Motive. This is definitely a unique selection, with the wonky, super syncopated swings of 'Loose Pimp' leading the way before we jump into the dubwise Asian fusions of 'Crazy'. Next up, we take a look into 'Itchy Fingers', which again uses a super unique lead synthesizer sound to provide the early energy, before descending into glitchy, gritty madness later on. Finally, we look at the title track 'Radar' and most certainly not disappointed as it's hypnotic, swampy lead bass loops and bleeping atmospherics put the finishing touches on the whole project nicely.

Review: The North American duo of Distinct Motive are at it again, this time teaming up with Navy Cut for a weighty two track release. We start off with ?King? which is a stepper?s delight. Pounding electronic subs roll ahead in the bass section whilst marching drums and super swung gritty synths run riot above. On the flip side we hear ?Worthy? which is straight out of the same bag of swing, however this composition is driven by its revving bass synth sounds and stuttered vocal appearances.

Review: As the year draws towards a swift finale, the Deep Dark & Dangerous crew have one more final bag of dubstep dynamite to bless us all with before we finish up. This project is a collection of official remixes, featuring the likes of dubstep heavyweights such as Truth, Kloudmen, ColtCuts, Dark Harmonics and many more. Overall as a project, it surfs across the entire spectrum really well, leaving no corner of the ever expanding genre unexplored. Highlights for us are without a doubt the haunted atmospheric vocals and syncopated keys that come with the two Sepia remixes of 'Regret' and 'Smoke', along with Leon Switch's ultra-metallic rework of Enochi's 'Nefarious'.

Review: Previously spotted on Deep Dark & Dangerous Vol 1 last year then, earlier this summer with the one-track headshot "Four Four Mode", Distinct Motive returns to Truth's perennially on-point DDD imprint with their first full four track EP. Each track is a pearly keeper: "F Class" is beautifully simplistic with its molten bassline phrasing and slo-mo Q&A. "Alive" hits hard with a toxic swamp monster sense of pressure and distorted grit, "Tsunami" is as brutal and unforgiving as its name suggests while "Out There" reaches out to our cosmic cousins in their own bleeped out mother tongue. Distinct by name...
