Review: Brighton bass evangelists 877 have the likes of GoldFFinch and My Nu Leng amongst their roster and can now boast the addition of the hotly tipped Distro too. Featuring the moody garage-flecked "Pinnacle" and the deep, wobble-heavy 4x4 of the title track, Flava D also remixes the latter into end-of-the-world speed garage. However, it's the thrilling collision of Bristolian heroes Distro and My Nu Leng on the big-beat-meets-disco-in-bass-town shenanigans of "Sleepless" that's getting the real hype from the likes of B Traits and Monki right now. On fire!

Review: First introduced to the world via Roska's Kicks And Snares label last year, Bristol type Distro has since gravitated towards Brighton and the South Coast's bass evangelists 877. The East Side EP is Distro's second for the label and unlike his debut, which featured My Nu Leng Teng and Flava D, the four tracks are all his own work. With the freedom to fully express himself, Distro lets rip with the title track emerging in calm fashion before dropping straight into a hard as nails funky drum flex augmented by a vicious bassline. From here Distro veers off into steppier territory for the other three tracks, with the immense sub action of "Someone Say" really standing out.

Review: Following his mates Sly One and Bromley, SOBAD fam Distro makes his debut with the on-point beat splicers Punks. With the help of My Nu Leng affiliate Dread MC "The Drum" sets the message clear: big thumps and uncompromised weight. "Killdem" takes us even deeper into the dance with 22nd century jungle blend of stuttering drums and iced out atmospheres. "Stomp" shuts up shop with grime undertones and tech overtones. Serious breaks horse power.

Liquor - (4:27) 130 BPM

Review: Distro's momentum continues to increase as he follows the launch of SOBAD's label and a string of killer jams on RKS with two deeper, mystical workouts on Hot Mom. "Lust" rides his signature funky afrobeat with rising harmonic chords and downpitched vocals adding hypnotic effect while "Liquor" switches between sense-tingling wave textures and a hide-tanning ghetto-bouncing riddim that will have you on your knees. This ain't lust... It's love.

Review: Bristol bass badboy DISTRO is back on the unstoppable 877 imprint with nothing but new flavours, bringing through the absolute heat-o! The lead tune "Soundboy Killer" is all guns blazing, churning out the snares alongside some dutty, dubwise vocal samples and mystical melodic infusions that make this a true dub-stepper. "WMPI" is a similar sort of beast, except here the groove is very much based on the 'bashment' end of the scale, blowing out the speakers with a keen aggression and some fiery-mannered beat-crafting. All killer, no filler!

The Drum (Archive remix) - (4:22) 88 BPM

Review: Distro's escapades continue with this fine remix EP of the recent "The Drum", and it's clear that the artist is now getting the recognition that he deserves. This EP comes through on the Punks label, of course, and these reinterpretations sound every bit as fiery as the originals - tongue-twisted and pleasantly surprised we are at the pleasant roughness to behold! Distro's pal, Sly-One, turns "The Drum" into a beat-heavy, percussion muscle with Dread MC's vocals riding shotgun, whereas Archive's version is slower, morphed, juked-up, and rounded off by a few heavy successions of jungle breaks. Tough.

Review: SOBAD it's good... Bristol's finest 12-legged/four-act crew come correct with their own label. All acts representing with a tune a piece, it's a serious statement of intent: Sly One dust off their favourite percussion tools and get gritty with some Cumbia soul, Bromley tags in Dread MC over a razor's edge breakbeat, Archive raises the tension with a big diva vocal sample over some sizzling rolling breaks before Distro closes on with some tripped-out percussion shimmers and ripples and more gutsy fractured drums. Each one exploring and documenting SOBAD's technicoloured shadow escapades. We're looking forward to more releases from SOBAD Sounds.
